Based on the challenger entry lists I saw, a lot of guys chose to stay in Europe so this list could be really weak.

Happy to finally have a Swede(Ryderstedt) in the Slam qualies. Lindell is not far away from those 15 first alternatives either and could probably come in aswell.

Is not sure, but I think is very probable he gets entry :), usually there are a lot of withdrawals in Grand Slams qualies entry list

I don't think it matters when the news came out. Tournaments would have known about the ban since May, even if fans didn't.

Because they're two talented up-and-comers and it will be interesting to see how their games suit these USO courts.

Thats the thing with Niko, he 'should' do ok on the quick courts because of that serve, and he also has fairly heavy groundstrokes. But, as you say, he hasn't got a great hardcourt record and for the most part sticks to clay. His movement has improved, but is still his weakness.

That said, I just had a look at his hardcourt efforts this year, and it's just two tournaments - Doha, where he made the third qualifying round and lost to Rosol in three tight sets, and the AO qualifiers where he lost comfortably to Sweeting, but that's no shame really - so it's difficult to judge what he'd do if he got a reasonable draw.

He clearly doesn't expect to qualify though as he's on the list for Como the week after :)

Yes, the draw will be important to determine his chances. His serve alone should win him at least one match. His problems are of course his movement, also the fact he has pretty long windups on his shots, and his backhand is still vulnerable. It's pretty easy to rush a guy like Ciric on fast HC.

And yeah, he being on the Como EL is definitely a sign of his confidence he's going to qualify for the Open, but it's also strategical. If he does fail to qualify, then he can just head back to Europe and play the big challengers.
