I got to see the last set of Phillip Simmonds' Saturday match. We had issues getting to our seats as all of the reserved seats on Sat were sold out by 10:45 and the ushers at the stadium had no idea where our seats were! He won his first match but lost Sunday and as such did not make the main draw.
We were out there to support him though because he is a local guy from Reston VA. I did get a chance to meet him and he had said this is the first time he had been back in the country in about 5.5 months having spent much of it in Rome on their clay there improving his game.
He is still about 450 in the world (I don't think he has ever been below 200) and seeing that he is 24-25yo these next couple of years will decide how he will be remembered.
He had a great attitude given how hard it is to make a living at this sport.
