Hopefully Crapdeville doesn't win. We don't need him back in the top 100.

Rooting for Zeba here so he can make the USO :yeah:

Isn't he retired?

Yes, but he said if he received WC to play in Brazil or in Colombia it would. Just do not use more than their ranking

Obviously, the draw is dramatically changed as well. Zeba and Souza, two favorites for the title, don't have great draws.

You have to ask what the motivation is for Feli.

Apparently Rafa told Feli how nice Colombia was (http://www.eltiempo.com/deportes/tenis/ARTICULO-WEB-NEW_NOTA_INTERIOR-9804386.html) from when he went there with Novak earlier this year, so Feli asked for a wildcard :stupid::rolleyes:

Why not just take a few days after Davis Cup and go on holiday for a few days then stay in the USA to play LA and Washington instead of flying to Colombia and robbing valuable points away from low ranked guys who really need them--then back to Europe for more clay shit.

Just when I thought he was finally getting his shit together :o

It is weird that Deliciano is paying, but it is worth 125 points and he should be able to win with relative ease. It should help him solidify a seed at the USO even if he can't defend his Los Angeles points.

Tank as in give a W/O or retire when leading? There is no way he would actually lose to Matsukevitch or Begemann; it would be too embarrassing.

Farah wins 6-1 7-6 Duran.

Good first set.In the second set, Farah made many errors and Duran has 5-4 and serve, but Farah breaks and win in a bad tie break.

Vamos Nico.

Filo V.
07-11-2011, 09:02 PM
Nico has a little bit of game left, but his serve and movement are diabolical, and his returning has never been great. I can see him improving his returning and his sharpness with more matches, but the serve issues and his lack of mobility will probably force retirement.

Filo V.

Not surprised Gonzalez beat Dutra da Silva, because Gonzalez seems to play well in his home country, even though he's a mediocre player overall. Dutra is super-duper inconsistent. His brother also lost.

Expected results on the day thus far. Hopefully Zeba can win enough matches to get that USO spot.

No he didn't hold for 4-1. And I'm not positive, but I don't think he had any break chances from there out. He had some games at 30 but that's it.

Filo V.
07-14-2011, 01:00 AM
Farah had 15-30 at 5-*4 and a couple of deuces down 5-*6.

Zeba stepped it up at the end, hit a couple of good passing shots and mostly kept the ball in the court, and allowed Farah to self-destruct. A pretty poor match overall, but I'm glad Zeba won to keep his USO MD dreams alive.

Van Der Merwe 6-2 4-6 6-4 over Arguello.

The South African has won all three of his matches in tight three setters. I'll reiterate what I said yesterday-----I hope he loses before he makes the top 100. TBH, I think he's a garbage player and I definitely don't want him in the top 100.

Filo V.
07-15-2011, 07:57 PM
Zeba was dominant on serve throughout the entire match, had match point at *9-8 in the second set tiebreaker, and lost three straight points. Typical Zeba.

Saviolero
07-15-2011, 08:11 PM
I don't know A.Gonzalez is in this round, he is a very poor player.

Filo V.
07-15-2011, 10:48 PM
Zeba lead 4-1 and had break point for *5-1, but then got broken for the first time serving for the match at 5-3. And then broke to win the match.

So ridiculous, his choking is getting worse and worse. At least he won, and he's lucky he got the draw he did. Now one more win needed to make the USO MD.

Filo V.
07-16-2011, 12:27 AM
So, who withdrew, Feli or Feijao? Match doesn't appear on the waiting list anymore, so it's not happening?

Filo V.
07-16-2011, 12:28 AM
Souza plays an aggressive, risky game, and he's always been and probably always will be inconsistent. But when he's on, he's a top 100 talent for sure and he should have been in the top 100 already.

Feli destroying Souza like that is pretty surprising. Hopefully Zeba can pull off the upset.

im friends with Huey. this is what he said

we had a long point up 6-2 in the 10 point tie breaker and izak hit a good low volley and cabal missed the next volley in the net and cabal tried to throw his racket in the net as hard as he could but it accidentally just clipped the net and flew over and drilled izak in the should and side of the head so it was an automatic default with us up 7-2 in the 10 point tiebreak

Feli winning this challenger just signifies how little the ATP actually care about anyone not in the top 10.

Honestly, this is not at all what I'm complaining about.
It's just comical how little effort Lopez has put into this tournament. His first rounds were easy opponents and Zeballos is in awful form. Playing how he has this week he would have lost in the first or second round of some hard-fought 30k in Europe.
And mind you, I like Lopez, but this tournament just deserves better IMO

Filo V.
07-17-2011, 08:19 PM
Oh, I know exactly what you were saying Smoke, I'm complaining about something different :p

Filo V.
07-17-2011, 08:21 PM
Feli definitely wasn't really fully extending himself-------but he didn't have to. His 60% or so is better than every other player in the event at 100% except for maybe Zeba and Falla. And that ties into what I was saying, guys ranked where Lopez is shouldn't be playing challengers.

fran70
07-17-2011, 09:55 PM
125 easy extra points for his ranking plus a bag of money for playing there is not that bad for him.

huey needs to play some reg atp dub events now, as the challengers tour even if you win does not pay enough.

guys ranked where Lopez is shouldn't be playing challengers.

I agree. I think a cut-off (top 40 maybe?) either they shouldn't be allowed to play challengers period or can only play in their home country--and that if they do play, they get no points or prize money for playing.

Nathaliia
07-18-2011, 04:01 PM
It happens just a few times a year anyway. Colombia doesn't host ATP tournament anymore, don't you think it's good for tennis in this country the crowd could watch once a famous player live? Poland doesn't have a tennis event at ATP level either, I would like to see Lopez live a lot myself.

I think it's all about proportions, and like I said earlier, guys like Lopez or Youzhny don't play challenger every day. So far just these two cases in the whole 2011, and Youzhny didn't even win the tournament he entered.

Filo V.
07-18-2011, 04:29 PM
I understand the fan and tournament perspective, I usually look at it from a player perspective. Because ultimately, it's taking away points from players who need the points. How do players get into the top 100 if most of the big challengers have guys in the top 70 and even top 50 at times playing them?

This year it luckily hasn't happened too often, but Youzhny did take out Hajek, the defending champ, and destroyed his ranking. Lopez won 125 points, that's a huge amount, if Zeba would have beaten Feli, he would have been top 100 and in the USO. It's unnecessary and it defeats the purpose of the challenger tour.

Nathaliia
07-18-2011, 09:50 PM
Yeah I get your point but these cases are so ultimately rare they in fact totally disappear in the general challenger amount, and fans in let's say Bogota have some fun once in 10 years. When Youzhny played Prostejov his tennis was so bad it was even hard to blame him for that...

A guy like Chardy also had high ranking and played in Nottingham, but his tennis also needed it a lot (and still needs :ignore: )

Alvarez
