I was so surprised to see "Les Visiteurs" had such a low rate on imdb, it's a hilarious movie (although it must be 20 years old now I don't think it got old) perfectly acted, well, maybe just the Americans who mainly vote don't understand the European humour or some puns got lost through the translations ;)

Another French favourite movie of mine, and again with Jean Reno, is "Tais-Toi!" (perhaps the last 20-30 minutes don't keep up with the pace, but nah...)

Honourable mentions to the British movies "Snatch," "Death at a funeral" and for whatever reason one more about the dead, "Shaun of the dead"

'Flying High', as it was relabelled for the Australian market, was side splitting for me as a kid... high quality slapstick and innuendo galore...

the hysterical woman scene was my fave as a kid...

and the notion of a whole 'Jive language' existing was too slick...

We get so many stupid comedies here but they can make you laugh like crazy...

Hot Tub Time Machine is a good one...The Hangover 1 and 2 (while I like them), the first one absolutely cracked me up in theaters. And possibly the dumbest, most crude movie I've ever seen, Your Highness

Oh I loled huge time at this movie when I was a baby, and now I check, it's the same director as one of the movies I mentioned in my first post ;)

I guess along with Tarantino, Rodriguez and Richie he is my new fave director :p

Many comedians can produce gold stuff, but very few movies are good all the way through. Off the top of my head I can think of:
The Big Lebowski - easily my pick for funniest comedy ever
Man on the moon
Groundhog day
Something about Mary
Tootsie
A fish called Wanda
Some like it hot
40-year old virgin
Annie Hall
Kung fu hustle

These are good for many laughs but I still haven't seen any movie that goes the distance:
Pink Panther movies
Marx brother's movies (the songs totally spoil everything)
Monty Python movies

Still haven't seen but want to:
Airplane
This is Spinal Tap
National Lampoon's vacation

No wonder ! Veber is one of the best French comedy director and scenarist of his time. If there's one recent film of his that I may recommend you, it would be La doublure with Auteuil and Elmaleh. Great scenario and great irony. Are you watching 'em in original version, Nathii? ;)

And I really love the trilogy La chèvre/Les Compères/Les fugitifs of the 80's. Depardieu/Pierre Richard, the greatest straight-foil/comic in history for me ! Those were the good old days when the French could make great men's films with fighting, humour, irony and heart and tenderness. ;)

And lol @ Michel Fortin. The guy with the trolley on Andreea's clip. He's a famous theatre/TV actor in France but here he only had that small role.

My favourite scene from Les compères (how casual and natural Richard is approaching these rockers is awesome :D):

_rDpFrvYppo

Depardieu: We're gonna have problems. Have you seen the monsters?
Richard: I'm taking care of it. I used to be a teacher. I can handle the kids.
Depardieu: Pignon? They're gonna destroy your head.
Richard: I'm taking care of it and we won't fight. Most of all, don't mix into it.

...

Richard: hey guys ! How are you doing? (pointing toward the hi-fi system; clicking his fingers) Great, the guitar ! wow holy shit, the rhythm! wow! Briliant !

I've just seen that Les fugitifs was on YT. I love that intro when Depardieu is released from prison. The music, that's Cosma at his very best. The bottleneck, makes me think of Ry Cooder. :yeah: Depardieu in his best role, too.

Otherwise King Ralph, Back to the Future (the 1st one), most of the Laurel & Hardy and every Terence Hill/Bud Spencer.:D

Fast Times At Ridgemont High. How Sean Penn did not get nominated or win the Academy Award for Best supporting actor as Jeff Spiccoli is an injustice.
