The Clay Court Rankings

So based on the clay results this year, how would you rate players in the top 5?

I have it:

1) Rafa
2) Novak
3) Murray
4) Federer
5) Soderling

So why Murray at #3? Because he had so many break chances against Rafa with one leg. I am sure he could have won a set or 2 if 100%.

Discuss.

Clay results wise I would agree Rafa is #1. Quality of play wise it is Djokovic at #1.

Novak loses that spot because he choked in the semis after 4 days off :)

It's a toughie this one. Do you mean the top 5 ranking players in order, or the top 5 players on clay of this season? (otherwise replace Ferrer with Soderling)

1 Rafa
2 Djokovic
3 Federer
4 Murray
5 Ferrer

Djokovic just, just above Federer. Although RG means almost everything in the clay season, winning 2 masters is a little too big to trade in for a FO final spot.

Don't you think Murray pushed Rafa harder though? I mean on one leg? He also got a set off him earlier. I think he was more impressive than Rog

Murray didn't push Rafa harder, and you can't use injuries as an excuse.

Even then, if this is a topic about results then Federer should be above Murray simply because he got to the final.

You should add this to your lame excuses list :wavey:

1 Rafa (Hard to argue against when he won the French)
2 Nole (Unbeatable and possibly struggled at RG due to having no match for 4 days)
3 Andy (SF MC, Rome and RG. Nearly beat Nole in Rome and ran Rafa close enough at RG with 1 leg)
4 Roger (Besides RG he didn't do anything worth mentioning)
5 Ferrer (Solid. Nobody else really did anything to trouble the top guys)

1.Nadal
2.Djokovic
3.Federer(he snapped THE STREAK and reached the FO final. that's why he should be 3rd)
4.Murray
5.Ferrer(pretty solid)

djokovic (got beaten by federer who played above his level, and nole was tired from winning)
federer (lost only to nadal because he played bad)
nadal (got another roland garros, i guess it counts for something)
del potro (took a set off the goat, following the footsteps of dodig)
murray (will challenge novak for claycoart goatness in the following years)

1. Nadal
2. Isner (pushed Nadal to five sets)

j/k of course

I would put Federer slightly ahead of Novak because when it really counted, the French Open, Federer won. Masters are nice but they're not majors.

Del Potro is the real #1. Once he is back completely, it is all over for the moon baller. Del Potro will not be a gentleman with those high balls. They go in for winners. Trust me.

How is finals of a major better than winning two masters plus the almighty Serbian Open?

These are only points. Probably can assess players under own performance e.g. compare to last years or what we expected from these players. (I think about Murray mostly.)

But the clay ranking was this in this clay court season. :)

counting all points won on clay this year, I think Ferrer got 1805.No exceptionnal results but very consistent.

Yeah, he won 500s tournament at Acapulco but I'm not sure tournament of February count for clay season or not even so it was clay. But the official clay season starts on April.

If something like Belgrade is counted I don't see why Acapulco shouldn't be (even if it's played in February). It's still clay.
