Convincing enough win, a few shaky moments when serving out sets but all in all solid performance :D Mardy played pretty poorly, double the unforced errors compared with Gilles. Soderling or Mayer up next.

:woohoo: :bounce:

The sooner Fish is out the top 10 the better

Too many errors from Fish. Simon and his pushing ways won't work against a guy that can hit winners easily. We will see against Soderling

good job gilles :)

had difficulty serving out the 2nd and 3rd sets though

Well at least we got one guy to the third round ...Mardy should have a good rest of the season.

Gilles is too solid. Without considering the H2H, I think he has a chance against Robin (assuming he beats Leo) - his game seems like the type that would frustrate the hell out of Robin and not allow him to dictate all the time because the ball won't sit up as much. The H2H is 4-2 to Robin though, so I guess I'll just wait and see

I'm not sure what Fish's gameplan really was. A bad match from him and he just made too many unforced errors, Simon had a couple nice backhands down the line and he played solid. Good win

Can't believe Fish is in the top 10. Good that Simon annihilated him to highlight what a joke ranking Fish has.

Impression: hipolymer didn't even watch the match.

But good for Giles. His head seems to be in the right place.

And anyone who thought an American was even going past the 1st week is crazy.

Innit, if Simon gets to the quarters he'll lose 6-2 6-1 6-0 and it will be remembered by SDG as a classic :haha:

It seems weird that this is his first ever top 10 win at a slam, but looking at his results it is also completely understandable. Since he broke through in the second half of 08, he has had some horrible luck in slams. Lost to Delpo in 5 at the USO R3 in 08, Rafa in the AO 09 QF, then he was injured at Wimbledon and the USO in 2009 (l. to Ferrero in both). Since he has been back he has met Murray Wimb R3, Rafa USO R3 and Fed AO R2. Brutal.

I actually thought that Fish had a small chance but I soon realized that that he really didn't, especially upon seeing how Simon kept winning many of the long rallies. Fish did a good job staying with Simon as they both just kept the ball in play, but Simon was simply just better.
