Nice win for GGL, I think his run ends against the Fog but always good to win a long match

I thought those DFs would cost GGL, but he's a great fighter. Great hard fought win for him.

Another easy one for Fognini next round.

Ilhan was dominant on serve for most of the 5th set, GGL was struggling in most serve games. But he found a way to hold on, and take the victory. Maybe that will boost up his confidence, and his form.

3h58 the time of this match.

Gotta feel for Ilhan 11-13 in the 5th? In a 17 thousand Euro match? Tough loss, really tough loss.

Well done GGL, but what's with all those DF?

Marsel deserved the match, missed 5bps final set, didnt even face 40-30 untill last game and choked badly in the end.
He coud be top 100 if he won and Fognini is a type of player marsel woud beat in his sleep.
Experienced guy won in the end.

From Ilhan great serve, and GL tragedy - his serve statistics almost WTA:D:D:, so many DF c´mon not even Verdasco or Djokovic in worst form made so many:D

really heartbreaking loss for marsel:sad:

he had so many chances and just couldnt take them..

this is the kind of win that could have done wonders for him, aisde from getting him a place back inside the top 100, it would have gioven him alot of confidence, also would have been his first ever GS 3rd round..i have to wonder if that affacted him, just thinking about it.Also would have really balanaced out the potential wimbledon points coming off

i just dont know what it'll do to him now..does he let it get to him and go into a slump or does it strengthen him knowing that he pushed the # 30 seed so hard?

This would have been interesting to watch....too bad it was on court 17. Congrats to the hottest Spanish guy alongside Marcel Granollers.

GOAT!

I really don't understand why he has so much trouble with these guys. Is he really not that good a player?
But I'm great he won, and he has a pretty good opportunity now as well. Take the rest and defeat the Italian metro.

marsel really has improved his game..obviously the serve being the biggest improvement so its not fair to write him off

Fognini is the lucky one... GGL won't win any match after this. :(

But good win Guillermo! :worship: I expected easier win but to be honest I haven't seen Ilhan long time ago, maybe he improved a lot too. Good to see that his injury wasn't serious in qualifity match.

Ilhan and his fans  But good performance from him!

Are you talking about GGL? GGL, contrary to most Spaniards, isn't at his best on clay...he likes the faster courts

24 aces in this match to add to the 25 he served in the 1st round. I haven't seen it, but he must have really improved his serve.

He's always had a problem with doublefaulting.

GGL is alright, but he doesn't do anything at a high enough level to destroy players unless he's playing really at his maximum ability. And he's at his best on medium speed hard court, not clay, although these courts this year do help his game. He's very solid in many departments, but a master of none.

Ouch, had a bet on Ilhan. Yet despite losing, all I felt was alot of sympathy for the guy. Great fight and showing from him. Apparently, he was also struggling with a recurrence of injury issues from the 2nd set onwards. His serving stats were pretty incredible at times.

Credit to GGL too, the guy is one of the biggest choker/fighters on tour. Managed to get himself out of big holes in that 5th set.

I really hope that Marsel can qualify for Wimbledon. He can do great damage on main draw serving like that.
