One of the 'outsiders' for the title imho (and I wouldn't at all complain if he manages to get it).

Benneteau has basically nothing to hurt Ferrer with, apart from winning the excessive grunting contest.

Nice stuff, David. That's all your points defended, believe it or not. Definitely points will be gained after RG, whether they are 4th round, quarter-final or semi-final points remain to be seen. Monfils can be trouble, and then there's Federer. And then probably Djokovic if he gets that far.

Benneteau was never going to be a huge test for David, but sounds like a good test for him in terms of playing someone who is a bit more consistent.

I thought Julien would counter-punch Ferrer more than he did and be more offensive, but Ferrer dictated almost all rallies throughout the match and didn't really allow it. I shouldn't be surprised. David looked comfortable throughout and played an aggressive and very effective match. Very impressive. He's definitely a major threat going forward in this event.

People here look surprised and suddenly say Ferrer is a threat now. He is the number three guy on clay, of course he is a major threat!

Very valid point...however I think Ferrer would still be a favorite because in 2008, Gael had his best slam performance here, and the Davis Cup match they played last year was competitive and close, but Monfils looked super focused and actually played a smart gameplan. Who knows if he'll do the same, he likes to clown around a bit more here in Paris on the clay
