Court selections in RG

gasquet-granollers not in SL or PC seems weird. probly the french with the most potential against a decent clay courter. i'd have expected to seem them at least in SL.

also, federer-teixera in SL instead of PC is a bit strange. one would think that the most cherished foreign player against a local guy would receive more attention.

there are probly other strange choices but those are the one that caught my attention

federer on any of the named courts would be strange

the best selection in the federer-teixera match is the chair umpire

Djokovic the main attraction now, Federer comes second. Tsonga and Monfils are bigger names than Richie

I'm glad Federer didn't get centre court. I get annoyed when Slams always put Federer and Nadal on centre court. Fedal versus a no name outside the top 100 shouldn't get preference over a high seed (say 5-10) playing a top 40/50 or well known player.

At the Australian Open last year for example, del Potro Blake got put on Hicense while Fedal thrashing a journeyman got put on centre. Those decisions annoy me.

Everybody has short memories? Last year, year before and at times before that, Fed has played on SL, as has Nadal - both of them when being either NO 1 or No 2 seeds

Edit: Can't be bothered to do a search, but pretty sure that this same time last year, there was griping about Nadal playing on SL.. then it turned out both Fed AND Nadal played at least one match on SL

Even being a Fedal fan, I agree with this. I completely understand their decision to put Federer on SL rather than PC today. Yes he may be the greatest tennis star to have played the game and he may be against a young home boy, but he is not the defending champion or amongst the top 2 seeds and his opponent is relatively unknown and hadn't played a YTD tour level match.

I do recall they put him on SL last year though when a spot on PC would have been better for the fans, but their scheduling today makes sense.

I think of greater concern is the attendance at this year's FO - especially in the first hour or so of play. It's sad that a there are so many empty seats around the show courts at the start of the early matches, no matter who is playing. In that regard, it didn't really matter that Fed played his match on SL rather than PC today since SL didn't fill completely.

The court selections seem weird weird at times, that´s for sure. But as for Gasquet, I´m pretty sure RIchie himself prefers to play at the smaller courts for as long as possible, kind of low key, avoiding the extra attention. I wouldn´t be surprised if he´d asked the organisers to avoid the SL or PC in the early rounds.

PC/SL also offers that famous speed difference, usually deployed in favour of the home player.

looks to me like WTA is what destroys the court selections. Nothing to do about that me thinkz.

I thought they might have put Clement's match on one of the two main courts seeing as its (possibly) his last match here...

Most importantly, they keep scheduling Sharapova matches on PC :hearts:

If they let me watch Richard on Friday  (cool match against Bellucci!), then I'll be 100% happy with scheduling!

Totally agree. And as others have said, it's not all that unusual at Roland Garros. I don't mind seeing variety in start times either, for example yesterday's 11am start for the #3 seed.

Kim is a four-time slam winner and a two time RG finalist herself, as well as the rightful world #1. Soderling can only boast two finals and a Masters title. Given the option, I'd go with Kim every time

in all fairness, i do respect kim quite a bit. she is probly the only woman in the WTA i'd watch just for her tennis... she's got a pretty game.

I'm a big fan of Soderking but I see no fault in this either. He will get his matches on the main court later on. With WTA you never know. That's the tennis where so called top seeds can be gone before you know it. Better slot them in while they can.

The great hope from the North. The savior of Roland Garros. The man Roger and Rafa sometimes wake up and see in their nightmares while sleeping in their fancy Paris Hotel. That's the guy :)

I am ok with Kim/Robin schedule, but Murray-Bolelli and Chardy-Simon on Chatrier over Nadal - this is big LOLWHAT?:spit:

They have to spread womens and mens matches evenly on the main courts. Clijsters is the best womens player around so obvious decision. More to the point should be why Simon v Chardy on Chatrier? Yeah sure its an all frog match-up, but if it normally interests me less when 2 Italians play each other :D

They're both French. ;) It's good reason for organizers :)

What's stupid is that Nadal, Federer, Murray, Djokovic, Ferrer, Simon, Monfils, Tsonga etc. have been (or are going to be) on PC, while Soderling hasn't!

I remember at the AO this year I don't think Robin get any CC action and he was #4 seed! It looks like the organizers just don't like Robin.

Yeah but it's nationality as well. Bet they mostly want spectators. Organizers always favor the homeboys for example. Sweden aint gonna invade the rest of the world with our massive population :D

I bet Robin would give the crowd a much better show than this woman who's leading 6-3 5-4 despite 37 UEs. :haha:

There are always 2 WTA and 2 ATP matches on PC. So why should Clijsters move for Soderling? If you want to see Soderling on PC, that don't complain about Clijsters match, but one of the two ATP matches that are scheduled on PC.

Sonja1989

Clijsters and #2 and she was #1 in this year... it isn't surprising. Specially because there are always 2 men's and 2 women's match. Better question why is on center court the Chardy - Simon match but yes, french clowd... :help:

Yeah just to quote myself. WTA is WTA. Better get world nr2s, 4 time GS winners in while they are still left

Good job.

They put someone on the centre court who hits over 60 UE in 3 sets against someone who hits 8 (!!!!) winners. Crazy.

WTA should not be allowed on the 3 main courts
