Is it a joke, no?

dimitrov will be 3rd seeded in the main draw?

I am sure this list will be much weaker, later on. There are going to be many withdrawals, because of DC.

That shows how weak is this EL...

grigor'd better not withdraw. the entry list is very weak and he may reach the semi-finals, there :wavey:

Such an awful draw. And I think it'll get even worse as Fish and Querrey have DC commitments (?)

Someone remind me why Newport has ATP status?

Chris.

Hope Matty Ebden can sneak in to the MD. Do you guys think he can?

Karlovic vs Mahut in the final

Filo V.
05-26-2011, 12:05 AM
List is not great, but it's better than usual. The cut off usually is worse and the quality of MD players is usually worse. This list has impressive names, and if Karlovic as I expect gets a WC, it will be even better. With that said, withdrawals could turn it into shit quickly.

Someone remind me why Newport has ATP status?

Because it has a lot of historic relevance, besides the fact it is played in the Hall of Fame venue.

It's a shame this tournament has the single worst position in the calendar, because this is probably the tournament where the grass is still as fast as it was in the 90's.

If Fish plays, I assume finally the streak of the #1 seed having never won the tournament will be broken.

If Fish plays, I assume finally the streak of the #1 seed having never won the tournament will be broken.Fish has been the #1 seed twice before: once he lost in the first round to qualifier Qureshi and the other time he had a bye & lost in the second round (first match) to qualifier Bopanna.

Yeah, but Fish is actually playing well now.

It's a good list for Newport.

Strong grass court players, some Americans, prominent WCs. No need to complain.

Oh god, Bolgomolov will be seeded :spit:

Filo V.
06-26-2011, 01:13 AM
I think Falla is going to win this. Falla, Mahut or Karlovic. I don't think Dudi nor Ryan H. or S. will do great here. Newport plays like real grass. Olli Rochus does well here and should again.

Filo V.

I don't see Mardy playing this event. If he does, he's the clear favorite.

Sauletekis
06-26-2011, 02:12 AM
I think Brown is Out too cause he's playing doubles (mixed and normal) in wimby. I'm not sure about Mahut either. With things going like this, I don't even think that Karlovic will need a WC, lol.

Sauletekis
06-26-2011, 02:16 AM
And of course, Mardy won't play this, so it's official. This tournament has a Challenger field. Actually i've seen better challenger fields than this one.

yesh222
06-26-2011, 02:23 PM
Karlovic and Bogo are doubles partners at Wimbledon. If they upset the Bryans and make it too deep into the second week they might pull out of here. Oh G-d! Donald Yound is only a few withdrawals away from being seeded!

yesh222
06-26-2011, 02:27 PM
Does anyone know who the SEs here are reserved for? People playing Wimbledon or guys late in the week in the Winnetka Challenger?

Doc14
06-26-2011, 06:33 PM
karlovic and Haas should get a few wins here at least this season

I don't think it's official yet but Chris Fowler tweeted at me that Fish will pull out of Newport to play Davis Cup.

Seeding atm:

1 Dimitrov
2 Kunitsyn
3 Sweeting
4 Bogomolov
5 Rochus
6 Berrer
7 Kamke
8 Sela

This is gonna be interesting, I quite like this tournament.

The SE are for players playing Wimbledon but any players playing late in Wimbledon will take them  they are always cleared

Even if Fish pulls out the list is quite good for Newport some years has been awful but here it's quite nice if we compares.

For Wimbledon semi-finalists. The only SE from one level to a higher level is from ATP500 to ATP1000 (excluding SE from one challenger to a challenger with more money).

but it does look like dimitrov, beck, sela, falla and rochus could and should do well here

06-27-2011, 10:10 PM
Who's gonna get that last WC?

Andre♥
06-28-2011, 03:10 AM
With Fish out and the two SE to be cleared, Karlovic will get in directly, so there are two WC still available.

_Chaz
06-28-2011, 06:14 PM
Karlovic is in directly as Fish is out and the two SE's are going to be cleared so there are still 2 WCs left.

Edit: Oh, yes, I should read the latest posts as well

The list is bad on paper, but there are interesting names on it who can play on grass. This is a great opportunity for all of these men. The grass at Newport plays like real grass, so the more traditional grass players should do well here.
