Okay, it looks as if Kiwi might be out for some time, probably for the rest of the season

I'm normally not such a great fan of the German football/soccer league because I'm mostly only following the big (international) games, but today evening when I was watching again the recaps of the Saturday games and I was glad when I saw that Hannover won their game and it helped them a lot to improve their position in the standings. :yeah: ... and of course I immediately thought of Kiwi

Unfortunately they didn't show anything of Kiwi :(

but I'm sure their away win made Kiwi smiling and happy :clap2: ... and healing his injury quicker ;)

Kiwi must be all :D :D :D now because Hannover jumped from #18 to #10 ;)

... and if Kiwi can't win tennis matches at the moment, I hope at least his favorite team wins some games to give him some fun :yeah:

:wavey: It was great yesterday and again with M.Stach. I think the first time this season where he said nothing about Kiefer.
I remember this year, when he commentated a Hannover game at afternoon and the same day he commentated Kiefer vs Hanescu on Eurosport.

Hmmm.... unfortunately he's is not commentating all of their games now  It was only a gag of me to start this thread as it is Kiwi's favorite team and because I thought of him when I saw them winning on Saturday :yeah:
It was something special when Kiwi was reporter from their match. I think it was also because Matthias Stach, who was commentating this football match and who is covering a lot of tennis for TV also, invited him to join. And it was a game on Tuesday that got more attention than it normally would have gotten because it was the only game of the German football league at this time. Normally more games take place at the same time and then it's more unlikely that Premiere (the channel who televises the German football league) invites co-commentators because one single match doesn't get so much attention then because viewers are watching other matches all the time (or they are watching a conference switching from game to game).
The only good chance I see that Kiwi again does something like that is if Hannover has a game on Sunday some time.

Concerning the question if they play David Beckham's team: No.... at least not this season *g* If you are verrrry optimistic and if Real Madrid and Hannover finish both among the top five(?) teams of their domestic leagues they could meet next season ;) But Hannover is a team that came up from the 2nd German league and for most of these teams coming up from the 2nd to the national top league the main season goal is not aiming for a place that guarantees matches on European level, but they are glad if they just can survive in the 1st league (must be ranked #1 to #15) at the end of the season; otherwise they are relegated back to the 2nd league.
Hannover and Real Madrid are two teams with two very different claims. And financially they are also very different.

aww thanks for the info!

..... i have never sat down and watching a soccer game in my life with the exception of high school soccer games....... but i did go see David Beckham when he was with Manchester? That's his old team right? But yea they played in New York a year or two ago for some reason so we all went to go see him.... lol.... I just wondered since that's the extent of knowledge i have in the sport ... which is terrible i know......... but Tennis is the only sport i like to watch ........ and play.

Something about that Hannover/Beckham thing.

Madrid has to make place 4 at least and Hannover place 3 to have a chance to reach the Champions League. So we won't see 96 and Beckham in the same game in the near future. :(

And Hannover finished the 2001/02 season as the best 2nd league team ever with unbelievable stats. In 1998 I think the came up from the 3rd league. So it's the 3rd year in the 1st league now since 2002, the last time they were in league one before was in 1990.

thanks for that JMG... so Spain has one more Champions League spots than Germany. Well, that's probably justified because the German teams sucked in the past year
I remember that Germany also once had four spots...

Maybe, Hannover and Real Madrid meat in summer league next year  :smoke:

I found a comment about the Hannover game that Kiwi co-commentated:

http://www.allesaussersport.de/_images/premiere-kiefer.jpg

This writer says that it was a good thing that Kiwi's enthusiasm about his club came over so well and that he was a good addition to the match.
He says, without Kiwi, the match would have been forgotten immediately after its end because of "unimportance" ;) LOL

And the writer seems to appreciate the silver medal and their match in Athens :D :yeah:

this wave also occurs in the stadium and called "the laola" too. Not sure if you know that, but the fans make it sometimes in the stadium and if the atmosphere is good (that mostly depends on if the home team is winning) it goes around the stands in the whole stadium, often even many times. :)

Do you know any background story about that how they became friends?

JMG
10-24-2004, 08:15 PM
No, he just said in the game against Bielefeld, that he was eating together with the 2 Americans Mathis and Cherundolo after the Olympics/before the US Open.
I think Cherundolo could be the player who Kiefer knows for the longest time now because he is in Hannover since 97 or 98 and his good friends Bobic and Tremmel are playing in Berlin now.

I also remember last year, when the former goalkeeper Tremmel said in a column on his website that he was playing golf with Cherundolo and Nicolas Kiefer.

Maybe these two or other members of the team also visit one of Kiwi's matches when he is playing in Germany next year.

I remember the semifinal day in Munich this year that involved Horna and Verkerk and both Makaay and Pizarro from Bayern were there together to watch the matches of their contrymen.

Hamburg TMS or Halle isn't too far away from Hannover and it would be cool if Kiwi got this kind of support also some time :yeah:

JMG told me about that in the other thread:
DSF, German sports channel, is selecting a fan to join Kiwi visiting the next Hannover 96 game (probably this Saturday). They will do a report about that and show will show that on their program. I will try to catch it if possble, but I hope I don't miss it.

Niiiiiiiiice :)

I told you about the above last week.

They showed the report today, Wednesday, in "Bundesliga Aktuell". Unfortunately, it was only about 60 seconds, I guess. Not much more, or even less. Almost nothing...

The fan who won and who was allowed to get a ticket to this Hannover game and sitting next to Kiwi in the stadium (plus vip area and catering) was an older man (about 40 years I guess) and they showed some scenes were he and Kiwi were sitting in the stadium and then when Hannover scored they both jumped up in joy ;)

The fan said this was an unforgettable day for him being so near with the team, together with Kiwi and having a look at the "backstage" behind a football game. Kiwi also said that this day was great and that they discussed about football and the other guy said that Kiwi knows so much about Hannover.

Kiwi and this guy also posed together with a player from the team. I hope he knows the value of this pic standing next to Kiwi and with this player. ;)

Kiwi's clothes appeared to be very "winter-proof", he was wearing a thick black anorak and handshoes.
Maybe he felt really cold http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/krank/9999.gif http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/krank/krank4.gif http://www.mainzelahr.de/smile/krank/kalt.gif
But that's good, he really is taking care of his health not to catch a cold so that he can properly practise for his comeback ;) :yeah:

Tennis-Star Kiefer an seinen Freund Bobic

Fredi, was hast du nur gemacht?

The article has nothing to do with tennis. It's just a letter from Kiefer to his friend Fredi Bobic, a former forward from Hannover 96. Two years ago, Bobic (becoming a star in Hannover) left Hannover and moved to Berlin (because of the money), where he is not in the starting line-up at the moment. And now Kiefer asks him in this letter "Why did you leave Hannover? Was money more important than your feelings?"

Kiwi wrote an open letter to Fredi Bobic asking him why he went away from Hannover to Berlin. A funny remark: "You thought you could do the same like the German Chancelor?" :rolls: .... FYI, the whole German Government moved to Berlin some years ago, therefore this alliteration! :p
Kiwi furthermore wrote that he can't understand why he left Hannover where he was very successful player with lots of goal, a leading player and with Hertha Berlin, he didn't find to his form and maybe the team also doesn't fit to his playing style and he is mostly only a subsitute and not very happy with him. And Kiwi feels sorry for him that he left Hannover and isn't happy with the new team.

Hertha Berlin will play in Hannover this weekend. Kiwi concludes saying that Bobic will be welcomed in Hannover every time, no matter if he was part of the home team or the away team.

That's basically all its content; written in a pillorying, but funny style! :yeah:

Hannover lost a few places after the loss to Berlin, but the competition for the upper rankings is still very tough, but nevertheless they still have a very good ranking and hopefully they can hold it until the end.

He also handed Kiwi out a Hannover jersey, #27 Kiefer :yeah:

from Kiwi's team's view a pathetic defensive effort from Hannover today  .... they got within just two or three minutes the same goal from the same player out of the same spot and situation twice and were down 1-4 at halftime and got whistled and booed off the pitch at halftime by most of their home fans. 2nd half was a bit better then, but the early deficit was too much to erase.

A good stretch lately of Hannover 96 and today another good effort of the Hannover team that could have been even more, namely a win against the dominant league-leaders Bayern München

Hannover first got "lucky" because the Bayern goalkeeper Kahn was injured and had to leave the field. Soon after Hannover scored for the lead, 1-0 by Brdaric. In the 89th minute Ballack scored the equalizer with a header.

Hannover was very close for an upset, but Bayern Munich escaped with the tie.

Hannover now has a streak of 11 unbeaten games, Bayern one of 15.

I hope Kiwi can see the tie as something positive and doesn't see it as "two points lost" because Hannover was so close to take the three points. Not that he is down for his tennis tournament ;)

I watched football league today and I see a lot of changes occured in the Hannover team.

Kiwi seemed to get along very well with Mertesacker, but he was traded to Bremen now. Also a coaching change happened during the off-season (or at the end of last season already?).

At least Brdaric is still with the team and scored twice today, exactly when I was watching  And they won today!

----

I watched this Pro7 Bundesjugendspiele Show today and Pocher made a 200m hurdles run with Elton at the end switched into a Hannover 96 jersey for that. He was wearing the "#96 Pocher", but I don't think his jersey # is as official as Kiwi's that you can even buy it in the fanshop  ;) But one more celebrity to wear a Hannover shirt :p

The coach got fired after the last game 2 1/2 weeks ago after starting with three losses, 2-11 goals. Then one of the assistant coaches won the first round of the cup and now the new coach won his first game in Wolfsburg.

The sad news came today that Robert Enke's daughter died.
It was unexpected despite the health problems she had. I mean she was even supposed to get healthy after the successful heart surgeries she had. :(

That's pretty sad, I didn't hear she was so ill, I only heard about her death some days ago.

Now it's interesting if Enke plays this weekend. Some people just want their time and others want to work and do many things because it helps them overcoming it and not to think about it all the time.

Hannover won 2:0 against VfB Stuttgart today :yeah:

Hannovers goalkeeper Robert Enke was in the news this week as he was very upset about words from Bayern Munich manager Uli Hoeness who believes that Bayerns goalkeeper Michael Rensing (who playes for the injured Oliver Kahn at the moment) could take over as Germanys national goalkeeper from Arsenal custodian Jens Lehmann.

"Three goalkeepers could take over, Adler (Rene Adler from Leverkusen), Neuer (Schalke's Manuel Neuer) and Rensing. You can forget Enke (current third choice German keeper Robert Enke), or whoever else," Hoeness said.

Enke said in the "kicker" magazine that Hoeness would be in a position where he should observe the proprities and that his statements would be very dismissive. He asked that Hoeness should respect the achievements from players outside of Munich. Enke has been voted as the best goalkeeper of the Bundesliga for several years now.

Oliver Pocher, comedian and co-host of a late-night show on German TV, who is a confessing Hannover 96 fan won 1 million € for charity in a special episode of a quiz show for celebrities.

He donated 500.000 € to the foundation of a former Hannover player, Per Mertesacker! :yeah:

Pocher was the first celebrity to win the 1 million :worship:

Well done to Hannover for staying in the Bundesliga :yeah:

It was a very tough season for the team, especially of course after Robert's tragic death.
