Like many others, I like travels:) Looking through current ATP calendar, I may say I used to be in 20 ATP-tour places and a couple dozens of Challenger-tour... unfortunately, my trips concur with tennis events seldom

Good draw.

Mahut has been dealing with some physical ailments, probably wanted time to prepare for Queens and other grass events.

Very interesting list. I think Dima has a good shot here. Mannarino likes grass, and Muller, Brown, ERV, De Voest are all also good on grass. Will be interesting to see how Becker does here. Chardy doesn't seem to have a game conducive to grass so it will be interesting to see how well he does.

Bobby v Karol  I have to go with Karol. I don't like his draw, though. Ball/Tomic is a tough R2 on grass. Hopefully he can do better than he has been doing.

Mannarino has a pretty tough R1 on paper and a potentially tricky R2 but I expect him to win through to the SF.

I think Evans has a pretty good shot at beating Sweeting but hopefully Ryan wins.

Muller v A. Beck is a very tough R1 match. Expect tiebreakers. Winner of that I think will make at least the SF.

Dima has a tough R1 in ERV but if he wins that, I think he'll make the SF at least.

Don actually has two winnable matches, hopefully he can take them.

Takao is retired nowadays, he's only there to coach Sugita or Ito (not sure which one, or maybe both of them). I guess he entered the qualies to have some fun, and also taking advantage of the low cut-off.

Karol struggled too much on serve against a guy who isn't a great returner. He needs to get his game back together, this is his favorite surface, he needs to start winning here and now. Losing that first set up a break cost him in the end.

But I'm happy for Bobby, hope he can win further.

Somdev completely dominant on serve so far over MM, hope he keeps it up.

Tough draw for Evans have to say.

I preferred Karol to Bobby. I remember how great he used to play on grass. I wish he was back at it yet before the retirement.

He was very good on grass, and I think he still can be. But anyone who follows Karol knows he goes on length form slumps and gets hurt often. I think he'll find some wins this year on the grass. He has so little to defend these next months that one good result will jump him back to the top 100 so I'm not discouraged.

Filo V.
05-31-2011, 07:15 PM
Matosevic 4-6 6-3 6-2

Not a surprising result. Somdev's game does not translate on grass.

76% first serves, 29 aces, 85% first serve win percentage. Gilles is going to have to keep that up, since he won only around 40% of second serves. With that said if he continues to serve like that, he's very close to unbeatable on this surface in challengers.

What a tough R1 match, sorry for Andi to lose. Hope he can gain points in other grass events.

I think the biggest worry here is that Muller will tank the match against Ebden so he could play in the qualifying event in Queens. The same thing goes for Bohli. Tursunov and Bachinger will play in the main draw in Queens due to their ranking, so that match should be ok.

Yep ;) I know Muller is a beast at these challengers, I only wasn't sure about his health.

Of course Dima losing a set 1-6 suprises me. After all it's Bachinger and not Djokovic or something.

Dima has these days when he doesn't feel like trying and whenever he goes down in the score he simply stops competing...I'm sure that was the case here

Mentally he is top5. Too strong for these guys. Remember those indoor challengers earlier this year? Just insane stuff

Yes, surely I remember. Muller + Mahut + Indoors = $$$. I only betrayed him with Seppi from set down in Bergamo

Heard yesterday Sweeting was whining to the umpire against Gilles.

Anyway Bohli 6-1

Why was he whining?
Too cool for school Ryan

Yeah there was even 6-3 in the TB  not the first time Bohli chokes  I think whole Switzerland moved their thoughts onto Fed and Bohli was left alone with himself :awww:

I like Bachinger, good win for him. Bohli and Dima blew their chances and that's what happens when playing good players, you lose, especially on grass. Nice SF lineup.

Gilles Muller CRUSHED Tomic in 65 minutes

if gilles wins the tournament that puts him back inside the top 100 doesnt it?, which gives him direct entrance into wimbledon

GoMullerGo
06-04-2011, 06:19 PM
I dont think it counts for wimbledon but for the US open, it will. even if he doesnt win, I think he will be around 100

He's up to #102 with a final result, and if he wins tomorrow he'll be in the top 95. It's looking increasingly likely he'll make the USO direct, which is a good thing. I'm less worried about him qualifying for Wimbledon, since not many players out of the top 100 actually can play on the surface.

last year he lost to Carsten Ball. so we'll see for Wimbledon. You never know

madmax

Yup, Gilles sure can play on grass...could even be a dark horse in Wimby if he keeps on serving his bombs

he hasnt won a title in 3 years, including losing twice this year already..you'd think he's due for a win

Nathaliia
06-04-2011, 08:06 PM
Yeah I was just checking this... he won his last title (Izmir) exactly 3 years ago ;) later lost 6 challenger finals and 1 futures

Should have beaten Seppi in Bergamo but he choked.

dont know why he's so awful in finals..he would like the king of the challenger circuit if he had won half of the final he's been in

certainly i could understand his atp finals losses..i mean look who he had to play in both his finals on the atp tour

GoMullerGo
06-04-2011, 08:32 PM
sure but after half of them he'd be on the ATP circuit anyway
