I'm gonna watch it :)

I like history and so it will be interesting to view from a historical perspective. Plus I love fashion, especially wedding fashion, so I will be interested in seeing what people will wear.

I don't understand all the hate that the Royals have been getting on here recently, especially with regards to this wedding.

William and Kate both seem like perfectly nice people. However, they seem to be getting grief (more so for William) for being born into the Royal family.

I especially don't understand why non-Brits seem to have a problem with this. The main grievance about the Royal family in Britian is that they are funded by the tax payer. However, given that they cost about £0.70 per taxpayer per year, I know I'd rather fund them than lazy unemployed areseholes who have nothing better to do with their lives than get drunk and cause trouble. Also, I'm fairly certain that however much the Royal family cost, the UK economy recoups more back in tourism.

Finally, this wedding may well be eating up hours of airtime on television, but rather this than other 'reality' show bollocks that usually occupies most peoples' television sets.

I don't hate them. The wedding is just a stupid waste of TV time. There's nothing special about this wedding, it's like very other one that happens in society. Just because they are royals and are getting married doesn't mean they deserve TV time. It's stupid.

I haven't been to any other wedding with pageantry like that.

But you like doing worthwhile stuff, so obviously you would not be watching TV anyway. So why the rant? It is not in any way interfering with your worthwhile activities.

Even if it is £2 each JUST for the wedding (which I highly doubt as that would mean it cost over £80m), the fact that it is a public holiday in the UK means that every employee is entitled to a day off work with full pay. If I had £2 taken out of my pay packet, but still got the day off work with full pay, that works out as a positive result IMO.

I dislike the fanfare around this and any other royal social event, but those people bringing the monarchy as a system into the discussion should first answer a couple of questions:

- Does the system work?
- How come the survival of monarchies in the West (including Japan) is not linked to backward, poor, undeveloped societies, but is rather susprisingly linked to just the opposite: if you made a list of the top 20 or so countries that are more developed, more progressive, more educated, more socially cohesive and more involved with improving the lot of the third world countries (example Norway or Canada), you'd find about half of them are monarchies.

I don't think it would be true to say that monarchies are in any way the cause of economic success, social justice nor a progressive society, but I do see their survival as an indicator that some societies have been wise enough to invest their best efforts in changing things that really matter, while many others have often wasted them in trying to change things that may look big on paper and come in handy for lighting the bonfires of revolution, but that in truth lead nowhere by themselves (like the colour of the flag, the borders of the country, or the fact that the head of state is called HM or his Excellency).

Monarchies will probably fade away with time, but is there really any need to get rid of those that have survived (in the West, Arab monarchies are mostly a very different issue)? Do they really stand in the way of anything that is relevant, be it democracy or a fairer society? It would seem not.

Let them bore themselves with their antiques, they are not the problem, it's the bankers' and the big corporations' running away with our money that we should watch out for, not the king of Norway.

Whatever the cost, it is not as if each person gave some money that was then thrown in a furnace and lost forever. It is still money circulating within the country and stimulating business activity. And with the money the wedding brings in from outside the country, it is probably a good business deal overall.

Wasn't it reported that the extra bank holiday would cost Britain £6 billion in lost productivity, yet only £1 billion was expected to be recuperated by the wedding in tourism/sales?

Even though I don't support the monarchy I do quite like William, he's nice. The wedding was all very "real life Disney"...they're a sweet couple. I was quite surprised by how many people were in London.

Yeah, there is this, but to be honest the morale that the country revelled in today more than made up for the economics - it was reported yesterday that the UK GDP grew. There is too much sadness and corruption in the world, the wedding was a nice restbite which uplifted the nation and the world. I saw many street parties today, people enjoying themselves in the sun. I think regardless of the costs and implications, it made people happy on some level.

It's a bit of a circle considering that low morale in our country has been exacerbated by public service cuts in the first place.

Like I said, I was surprised by how many people were in London so I do see that probably the majority of people in the country enjoyed the wedding today, and I accept that.
