ahh yeah. i agree. i drink enough water that its diuretic effects don't leave me dehydrated and i drink it black, so i don't consume sugar with it and rot my teeth. so it's sleep that's my motivation.

day 1 - so far, so good. fingers crossed.

You are young to have the problem. I remember drinking coffee right before going to bed well into my 30s. But at some point, I couldn't do that anymore, and then it was not drinking coffee after 9 p.m. until now when I don't drink caffein at all normally after 2 pm or maybe 3 if I feel, you know -- dangerous and edgey. :p

I've decaffeinated several times. Even when I was drinking 12 cups of coffee a day, it only made me drowsy and headachy for one day. After that it was fine.

I don't quite remember why I goodrepped him (I remember that somebody who usually loves mocking him actually agreed with him as well, saying something that hell must have frozen over) but I don't follow the "let's see who we can mock to make ourselves look part of the cool tribe" trends on MTF and I've goodrepped rabid Fedtards as well for heaven's sake so *insert Bibberz' flipping finger emoticon*

A bishop who has admitted sexually abusing his own nephew - condemned by the Vatican to leave the country (cruel punishment, I'm sure) to live in France in the Loire area (a.k.a. French Siberia) - has done an interview where he downplays the sexual abuse as "only a game, it was not as if it was brutal sex or anything like that".

That boy was abused 13 years long, from the age of 5. Yeah, I'm sure he sees that as "just a game" too.

Then, he admits to having abused another nephew as well, but that didn't last long, he says. Only a year or so.
Yeah, being abused for one year is nothing really.

He's a sick and evil bastard, that's what he is.

And of course, as usual, the reaction from The Vatican is deafening.

What I don't get in this all is the following:

This bishop is still a priest and can still perform as such + he gets paid as a bishop (not too shabby, I might add, tax payers money).

Now, a couple of years ago, a priest admitted to being gay and having a relationship. The reaction from the church was condemning and swift: that priest was thrown out of the church, he could no longer be a priest because he was admitting to sin, breaking the celibacy rules, yadda yadda yadda.

Can somebody explain to me why a man admitting to having a loving relationship with another man, a consenting adult, leads to a swift reaction and the priesthood is taken away from him while another man admitting to sexually abusing children can still be a priest, is still very much part of the church and he's sent to the Loire area to contemplate his sins with psychological help but "to forgive" is important to the church so he's still part of the club.

Gosh, this angers me.

acionescu

The way Church acts defies explanation and it makes me even more angry as it gives munition to all of those that hate religion and are willing to put the "=" between Church and Faith.

What i don't understand is :sexual activity with children is not breaking celibacy? :o

Castafiore
04-15-2011, 09:29 AM
sexual activity with children is not breaking celibacy?
IIRC, that gay priest could have remained a priest if he had admitted to being a sinner, put an end to his relationship, stop having gay sex (that priest said in the media that he didn't think that being in a loving relationship with another consenting adult was wrong).
The bishop has admitted to sexually abusing his nephews and he has admitted that it was wrong (although he downplays it by saying that it was only a game, he didn't think that the boy (the one he abused 13 years) was against it, etc.)

Apparently, there's a difference there but I don't get it.

-

Another thing I don't get. If you have read the New Testament in particular (as I have, having grown up as a catholic) and you read how Jesus acted and reacted to people (to the weak, the poor, the ill, the needy, to children, to those abusing power, to criminals, to prostitutes, to the greedy,...), how can you preach out of the bible and act totally differently? I seriously wonder how that works out in their minds.

One of the reasons why I stepped out of the church is the contradiction I saw between what I read in the bible and what I saw in the church.
It quickly lost credibility for me.

It's their choice, Hilde, when they enter the Catholic Church or a Monastery. Those who can do it are very spiritual men that efectively nurture themself with the love and teachings of God and need nothing else. I had the occasion of meeting such people in Romanian Monasteries and they are really something special.
You cannot make a vow and then start to complain that is too hard or unhuman. It's hard to raise children too and it isn't suppose to abandon them when it gets tricky, no?

FEDERER 4-6 - SET! Federer earns a break point on Melzer's serve at 30-40, but fails to convert with a desperate forehand into the net after a terrific pick-up from the Austrian. Melzer charges into the net at deuce, and earns a set point as Federer pings an attempted pass into the net on the backhand. A big serve wraps up the game, and gives Melzer his first ever set against Roger Federer!

I would love to go to both Latvia and Estonia, but have not the money for it. Well, maybe I will, if I get off my petite derriere and find out about this job that has been dangled in front of me.

Nadal :( Don't make this complicated.

I wish you exercised a similar attitude when it comes to MTF misdemeanors:hug:

I suspect though that, in this case, it is your abuse of power you choose to find hilarious:sad:

I don't abuse power. I simply use it. That's what I'm here for. No need to thank me.

Well I want it on record that I'm completely anti-imperialist and deeply ashamed of elements of my country's past in its treatment of people of other races and nationalities. But if people are going to paint me as a colonialist I will sometimes play along ;)

i'm tying this into star's previous post in re: caffeine. star, i have always been sensitive to caffeine. used to be that even dark chocolate in the afternoon used to keep me up at night. but stints in law firms have led me to being hooked to coffee and it's really awful.

I think that you will have no problems today. I've never had more than one day's difficulty withdrawing from it.

I do hate that feeling of lying in bed dead tired and unable to sleep because of caffein. It seems to me that I feel the blood rushing through my veins. Such a weird feeling.

I got into that habit of walking down to the break room and getting coffee over and over again during the day so I know what you mean.

What is unreal is that the day I show up with such a sig, in a flash instant there would be an army of Rafatards/fangirls reporting me. Raferminator is a regular in GM and has that sig for weeks, so I guess no-one bothered reporting it  when I tell you this place is nothing but a fed hating site :o

The difference is, JM, you post stuff explicitly so of course people jump over it.

His link just said "Read my tennis blog" so the vast majority of people, knowing what sort of a poster he is, aren't even going to bother clicking the link to see what it was - not to mention there's 3000 tennis blogs or so that members here have. So until someone did click through and then tell us about it, it wasn't noticed.

And spare me your whining about Rafa fangirls - you've more than earned your reputation with them and you revel in it.

:wavey: It feels strange to see Monte Carlo from streams :awww: I had to prepare tax filing and other errands earlier then expected to watch Roger as the 3rd match of the day. Opened a live stream, saw Rafa up a couple of breaks in the first, noticed it was windy and... decided to catch a nap rather than following what promised to be an intriguing match with highly uncertain outcome. :D

I can bet anything that if I bother creating a blog on how Rafa is a doper and put a "read my blog" link in my sig it wouldn't last for one hour... Maybe I should try to prove my point :o

I think it's one we will have to have a discussion about to see where we stand on this - after all if someone posts a link to a porn site that's a breach of forum rules, even if the link doesn't explicitly refer to porn. It's a bit of a minefield, this area but we'll have the discussions and agree a way forward on this. I think linking through to something that so explicity breaks forum rules is a no-no, personally. If you believe something like that, fine, but you can't promote it on this site.
