Nice that he is seeded. A great chance to pick up some points for the ranking. So actually by being seeded he should reach QF as he will play only lower ranked opponents before QF... Lets hope the best.

Grigor is numebr 8 seeded and took Rainer Schuettler in the R1 match, He is in the half with Querrey and Isner seeded.

[8]DIMITROV, Grigor BUL v SCHUETTLER, Rainer GER
GABASHVILI, Teimuraz RUS v Qualifier
Qualifier v [WC] SWEETING, Ryan USA
QUERREY, Sam v BYE

That's the quarter of Grigor. A pretty tough draw, but the German veteran is beatable and so is Gabashvili. Fingers crossed for some ATP main draw success this week!!!

:scared: I don't know what I say about Shüettler. He is very old and experienced player, he can be very hard for Grisho...
Good luck boy! :)

Grigor is capable on clay, if he's in form he can beat the likes of Schuettler with ease.

Sorry but Schüttler is 100 years old... It would be very very disappointing if he'd loose that one...

Hm, I don't know what to expect. If he plays good and beat Schüttler in the first round he is capable of reaching semifinal, but if he is not playing good...

GREAT!!! Even better than I expected. Hope that gives him some confidence for the next rounds...

aren't you going to cheer for the German? :)

Back in 2003 I chheered for him as he reaches the AO final. But actually we don't have players to cheer for in germany. I liked Haas but I fear his career is over... I'd like to have a german Dimitrov to hype tennis here again that they show more in TV... but there isn't :-(

nadejda
04-05-2011, 10:47 AM
I like Kohli even though he chokes a lot at moments :D

We don't have much TV coverage on tennis here too. Don't know why, last year Pironkova played a SF at Wimbledon and it was not showed :(

Hope they will start to show some tennis if Grigor advance in the ranking:)

Grigor faces Gabashvili today from 12 local time, which is 20 BG time and 19 CET - a good time to watch. Gabashvili is beatable and they are friends with Grisha from the time they won a doubles title together.
Good luck!

Dimi got broken in the first game, then had a break point but lost the second serve.

he's serving 0-40 0-2 right now. :/

04-06-2011, 07:00 PM
3-3 now Grigor played a little better, but still can't serve weill only 38 %? it is very windy as well, maybe that is a problem.

Medical time-out Gabashvili.

Lubilia
04-06-2011, 07:38 PM
Very frustrating match, both are not playing well for now, Gabashvili is leading after more than 10 minutes medical time out. I don't wan't to be disrespectuf but Teymuraz does not seem to be injured at all.

nadejda
04-06-2011, 07:44 PM
this is like an WTA match, yes Gabashvili doesn't look injured at all and is quite windy and therefor a lot of serve mistakes

vn01
04-06-2011, 07:50 PM
Grigor lost the 1st set. 6-7. He missed 2 SPs at 5-4*. Teymuraz is cheating :o

nadejda
04-06-2011, 08:08 PM
this match is so horible - strong wind - I saw a ball having a very wired traectory, a lot of mistakes from both, wrong serves, wrong calls, interruptions...its just :o

Grigor holds again to make it 3-1*

Sonja1989

Yes, horrible.

vn01
04-06-2011, 08:25 PM
Oh, shit  He was broken. Grisha start the game excellent with 40-0, but then had to save 3 BPs, but on the 4th Gabashvili broke. Fuck! :o

nadejda
04-06-2011, 08:30 PM
this wind is so strong, must have been very wired to play in such conditions without knowing how strong have to hit the ball

I think Grisho is unlacky today and will loose the match in 2 sets, but I can't really blame him

vn01
04-06-2011, 08:36 PM
Disappointing. The wind troubles not only Grigor, but Gabashvili as well. Our boy has the chance to win the match. Missed 2 SPs in the 1st set and was 3*-2 40*-0 in the 2nd.

That's the end. 6-7 3-6. He could have won. I am disappointed, really disappointed. :(

Anyway, next tournament is Barcelona. Good luck, Grisha! :yeah:

nadejda
04-06-2011, 08:42 PM
I am not dissapointed so much, really!
It was just a horrible match, with a lot of mistakes, they both didn't show a good game.
You know when he is on what is capable to do.

anyway good lack next time, Grisho

nadejda
04-06-2011, 08:59 PM
The only thing that was really dissapointing was the way he started the match - first 3 games in the 1st set. He played like he is done and the match wasn't even started yet. Looks like he lost it in his head before the beggining.
That is something really borthering.
Look at the match with Schuettler. When he knows he can beat the opponent Grigor is confident and strated furious, played excellent, served amazing! But the opp is also true.

Pete has to work on that! Grigor has no confidance at all!

vn01
04-06-2011, 09:22 PM
Well, I think he knows/knew he could beat Gabashvili, but still his confidence is too low, I agree. Maybe he needs a person in his team, whose task should be to "work" for Grigor's confidence. And I am not talking about Pete. The Australian should work about his game, imo

nadejda
04-07-2011, 04:57 PM
From his interview after the match with Shuettler:

'Young Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov thumps Rainer Schuettler, 6-0, 6-2 at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston. A former top-ranked junior, Dmitrov’s progress has been slower than some expected, although he did suffer injuries last year. He has been given the nickname, “Baby Federer.”

“I haven’t done anything yet,” he told the Houston Chronicle. “But it’s not easy (to be patient), trust me. When you’re No. 70, you are in that gray zone where it’s like, ‘Come on, man. (Win) a few more rounds, (win) a tournament.’ There’s definitely a lot to work on, but I’m happy I passed my first match here and I’m looking forward to the next one.”—Matthew Cronin'

So we know now it is not easy to be patient  especially when it is not comming to him naturally...

I am curious now if he will step on his new level and start winning R1 matches, though I expect now a loosing R2 matches steak to come. Would be still better that R1 loses, but let's see! :D

Sonja1989
04-07-2011, 04:59 PM
Thanks for the interview. :D

vn01
04-07-2011, 07:26 PM
Well, Grigor lost 4 consecutive times in R1(Rotterdam - Miami). Now if he comes another streak, but with R2 losses will not be that bad. Then will come a streak with R3/QF losses and he'll soon start winning more and more matches :yeah:
