Mardy in Madrid!

Mardy's next scheduled appearance will be in Spain at TMS Madrid, Oct. 18-24. Last year, Mardy got through Henman and Robredo before Federer took him out in round of 16.

Good luck to Mardy this year!

these fast indoor courts should be suited great for his quick game. No reason why he shouldn't do well and he wont be seeded so he'll be a dangerous floater for sure. COME ON Mardy.

He had just better hope he doesnt draw Federer early, or at all. His last two matches against him have been complete blowouts(4-6, 1-6 & 0-6, 3-6). He wont want to have Henman either or Marat. He could do well here, given that his game is great for indoors, but its very likely that he'll face a top seed early, which certainly wont help.

everyone worries he'll draw roger what if he draws andy? then he's screwed too he's only won one agaisnt him and that was coz andy withdrew with injury! so it's not good! hopefully he'll steer clear of both but we'll see, go fishy!

Actually, I would feel better about Mardy's chances if he drew Andy and not Roger. Even though Andy owns Mardy, I really feel that it's only a matter of time before he learns how to get past Andy. I think he can play against anybody but it's the choking during critical points that really kills him. He's got to learn to stop focusing on his opponent and just concentrate on his own game.

Well he can't draw either of them in the first round, the top seeds get a bye at Madrid and Paris b/c of the smaller season-ending draw. So he'll have to win another match before even having to worry about either of them.

I think Mardy is a long way away from the choking  Every time it seems like he'll get past it he goes and has a horrible tourney right after. Check his good results - every time he makes a final or something he crashes out early the following tourney :o

Éowyn
10-05-2004, 11:08 PM
yeah but he does actually have issues in the finals he should have stormed the olympics but had the whole fake injury thing to deal with he needs to be more aggressive even if the other player is hurt he shoudl just finish them off if they're that bad they'll withdraw!

he actually reminds me of my football team (i'm a fulham supporter for those who know anything about footy) in the way that he seems to lift himself for the big matches but then let someone who he should beat easily walk all over him, he needs concentrate, but he's getting there :) he's still learning and he's getting closer.

he's basically inconsistent.. a good tournie for him would sometimes be followed by a bad one.. he cant seem to maintain the consistency.. i hope that changes cause that and his head/attitude is preventing him from getting to his full potential

Deboogle!.
10-06-2004, 02:54 PM
he has issues in finals, but beyond that is what is even worse.

Last year, here are the finals he made, then what he did next tourney

Delray (then lost 3rd round to Escude in Miami)
Nottingham (then loses 3rd round to Fed at Wimby, ok we forgive him for this, nothing he can do about losing to Fed at Wimby)
Cincy (then loses SECOND round at USO to Kucera)
Stockholm (he wins this then loses first round in Paris to Guga)

He makes the final of Cincy last year without being broken, beats all these top players, then loses to Kucera in the USO. Same thing happens this year with the Olympics and Tabara. and last year with Stockholm and Paris.... having a good tournament doesn't really actually seem to boost his confidence much at all.

In fact the ONLY time he's had a good tourney backed up by another is this year, San Jose, he made the final and then the next week made the SF at Memphis where his shoulder was really bothering him from playing too much... if playing two small tournies is too much tennis for his shoulder, the dude has more problems than just his head.

the more i watch mardy the more i think he's suited to being the udnerdog! he seems to excel at matches where he is down a set, or where he's expected to lose. matches he's leading or should win easily (olympic final anybody?) he panics and loses it. But from behind he always seems to play well!

I missed the first set today don't think i missed much judging by what teh commentators said mardy played about 1 good shot all set, poor fishy! but the other 2 i saw and he seemed to be back on form:) kinda felt sorry for mario i think he thought he had the game in the bag but mardy shocked him and then scared him and then beat him to a pulp!

good on ya mardy! i do think if mardy is gonna get a TMS this year this is the one he needs to do it in, with the big guns out.

keep it up mardy!
