Expected at Key Biscayne 2011 is for the underdog to win.

Devvarman has been playing well - not a complete shock

People are incredibly tough on Raonic and Harrison around here. They are just 20 and 18, respectively. Yesterday Harrison's career was ruled over at 18, and today Raonic is all of a sudden a worse version of Karlovic.

They're both still VERY young with incredible potential. The world is not going to end tomorrow, and they'll learn to adjust to differing conditions as their careers progress I'm certain.

somgame is finally ON this year......this is just incredible......he is reminding me of chang with his speed and his serve and return have hit another level this year.......

really interesting to see how much more he will improve.......we once had leander in the top 30 and it looks like somdev will be there in the top 30 soon if he keeps adding those improvements.......a better forehand will make hima decent hardcourt player at the tour level.......

i think it's ferrer next.......come oooooooooooooon somdev!

03-25-2011, 06:02 PM
Extremely expected result. Somdev broke 4 times and was at 30 or deuce in several other games. Raonic won 56% of serve points. Match could have easily been 6-2 6-3.

Perfect match-up for Somdev in terms of the opponent and the conditions favored Somdev in a major way. Raonic is 20. People need to chill down a bit and control the bandwagon as it's gotten a little out of control. He'll get better as he gains more experience but expecting him to dominate week in and out is really unfair to Milos.

Leander was never in top 30 . His best ranking was 73 which Somdev will surpass in the next update. The only 2 Indians who were ranked ahead of this in open era were Ramesh Krishnan & Vijay Amritraj.( both were in top 30 - in fact Amritraj in top 20.

Disappointing stuff from Raonic. Maybe signs of tiredness, he has played much more tennis than an average ATP player this year.

What a pathetically slow surface, perfectly built for talentless one-dimensional moonballers (Nadull) and grinders.

Why is the ATP trying to turn this game into a moonballer/grind fest? Talentless players like Nadull have no business winning tournaments.

Pathetic.

Well, I am not a fan of Milos, but will not bash him for this lost, the blue clay is quite slow for his game and maybe he is tired as well.

On the other hand Somedev is really impressive!

Certainly not expected, but definitely not a huge surprise either. Devvarman has been playing well early this season and his results to date have been indicative of this. Of course Raonic has had an amazing start to the season of his own, but there are bound to be slight peaks and troughs in performance throughout the season.

Pushverman and Chang?

Happy for Pushverman! I like his spirit a lot. Throws it all there on the court. A little disappointed with Raonic but he's played enough in the first part of the season. Time to rest up and prepare for clay.

Devvarman is a poor man's Murray in many ways, so not a shock result.

I think he's a poor man's Nadal (version 2006)

The power on strokes of Raonic suits quite well with Somdev. Somdev was a threat for Raonic and that was proved on court today. I can`t see on him the next Kucera yet though.

You are the epitome of an abusive spouse who has had a very bad day at work. You were made to feel inferior or pathetic so instead of dealing with your issues in the appropriate way you decide to come home and unduly take out your anger on your spouse and/or kids.

You do realise that Nadal has nothing at all to do with this thread right?

That question also goes to the rest of the mentally challenged in here who are choosing to bash him or mention his name here as well :retard:

Devvarman is in sweet form! It's a shame he faces Ferrer next.

YouCantBeSerious
03-25-2011, 10:50 PM
Raonic just needs to improve his consistency, he spots Devvarman a 5-1 lead in the opening set then roars back to force a tiebreak. Then he falls down 5-1 in the tiebreak before going down 7-5. 7 double faults doesn't help either. Devvarman is playing his best tennis so credit to him.

Arkulari
03-25-2011, 11:11 PM
This is what is going to happen to Raonic in surfaces that don't allow him to serve as he's able to, his baseline game still has a long way to go and grinders like Somdev are his worst nightmare ;)

AncicCilic
03-25-2011, 11:31 PM
I don't find this suprising and wouldn't yell on Raonic too much about this one. Surface isn't fast enough for him and in longer rallies he doesn't have a big chance (yet) against players that can return like Devvarman.

Simply a bad matchup player for him atm, he'd probably rather take on someone higher ranked like Isner or Fish and have a better chance then against a returner who doesn't do many UE's.

This is still all very promising for Milos. Who would have thought he'd even reach the second round of a Masters event at the start of the year, let alone pull off the season he's had so far? He could take the rest of the year off and still be ranked inside the top 60 come December. Hopefully he takes it easy during the clay season and works on the areas of his game that could make him a major force this summer.

Good win for Somdev though! Nice to see someone who is personable and hard working continue to get better and climb further up the ranks every year. :)
