Miami R1: Lorenzi def. Ljubicic 7-6(7) 6-1

I'm still hoping the ATP will announce they made a mistake and that it was Ljubicic who won 7-6 6-1. Otherwise this means Ljubo has just hit a new low. How can you lose your serve 3 times in one set to Lorenzi of all people. And on HC.

No way. He should retire N O W. No one can be beaten by Lorenzi, for God's sake, no one at least in the top 100. It's like a formula: if you lose to Lorenzi you have to retire. Retire Ljubicic

Lorenzi is a bad player in general but he's actually about as equal a HC player as a clay one. He's not a clay specialist.

With that said, I respect Ljubo for putting in the effort and fighting out there at least in the first set, but he needs to take some weeks off and get healthy for the clay. He's not in the condition to play his best tennis currently. Without an effective serve he's become increasingly vulnerable these last few years and even more so when he's not fit. Hope he gets better soon.

Lorenzi is a better clay player, but identifies his favorite surface as HC and his favorite event as the US Open. He's play 9 matches this year, all on hard. He is not a clay specialist.

Even at challenger level, Lorenzi only barely wins 50% of hard court matches (38-36 career).

Through the years this is true, yes. It isn't true this year, and he himself says he prefers playing on HC. Clay specialists avoid playing on HC. He would be in Italy this week playing the challenger there.

ljubo wasn't injured. he was just playing like shit and it was hot as fuck..so when he lost the first set in that tight tb, he just started blasting every ball (literally every ball). clearly that didn't work out for him.
for what it's worth, the point ljubo won at 6-6 in the tb was pretty legendary. he also had a backhand lined up on set point and pulled it wide

If I would be slightly injured I would rather retire in the second set than lose to Lorenzi on HC.
Just unbeliveable.

But I'm happy for Lorenzi, I saw him many times in Ljubljana challenger where he was sitting lonely on his chair which he brought from I don't know where  He brings that chair near to the court and watches a match...maybe thinking about life...he looked so sad one day that I almost went there and give him a

He must feel much better now.

Well. At years end, he should think about taking a long break and then start to coach. I think he'd be a great coach. Has a sense of calmness and determination you need from someone overlooking your game.
