Pretty good draw. He should not lose a set to any of these guys and he will get nice practice for the main draw. I hope he does not prove me wrong

The first match is today from around 13:30 ET (18:30 CET; 19:30 BG time).
Good luck!!!

Przysiezny might be a problem, but Dimitrov passes always qualies for now. I want him to play against Djokovic in early rounds.

The first opponent is good, but Przysiezny ... he likes slower courts and never knows what is his form. But of course Grisha should win!

Good luck Grisho!!!

quite easy draw, even if counting the polish guy, he should make it.

6-4 7-6 - job done with solid serving and strong mentality as always in qualifying and in tie-breaks!
Probably Massu tomorrow and another good match expected as his serve and overall game looked good from the stats.

As for the main draw - still early to ponder, but apart from Ljubicic no other possible opponent bothers me

Good luck tomorrow :wavey:

De Voest seems to be a tough opponent. His previous match was competitive, too. Happily, Grigor won both matches. Now is Massu. Grigor will win easier than yesterday, I think :)

Now for the main draw - Gil is my favorite, but Kavcic and Kamke also look good. Fingers crossed and good luck :wavey:

Grigor won!

6-2 6-3 he seemed to fall asleap a little bit in the second set and after missing to brake beeing 0-40 he got broken in the next game! Then he immediately woke up and broke twice at love to smatch the victory!

(3)Roger Federer (SUI) bye
Fabio Fognini (ITA) vs Radek Stepanek (CZE)
Sergiy Stakhovsky (UKR) vs Grigor DIMITROV (BUL)
bye vs (32)Juan Monaco (ARG)

Stakhovsky is not a good choice at all, but we have to do with that comes. He is in good form, but prefers faster courts and has not played in the US this spring yet. Grigor has the match practice on his side so come ooooon!!!

As for Monaco and Federer - I doubt we can reach the match with Federer, but it is a good dream to hope for and I sure hope for it a lot!

Stakhovsky isn't bad opponent but yes, he is tricky player... Good luck Grisho!!!

And catatonia you are right, but it's really for good dream... ;) I want to see Federer - Dimitrov match but just a little chance.

The draw is quite interesting. Hope Grigor beats at least Stakhovsky. I think his chances versus Monaco are at about 35%, but why not. I'll be happy if he passes 1st round ;)

Gil, Stakhovsky, Kavcic, Hanescu and Kamke isn't bad, maybe Istomin too.
I don't want Harrison, Blake, Malisse, Ljubicic and other qualifier.

Why not Harrison? Harrison is younger, less experienced, and in my opinion less talented. Though, I do think Harrison has better tennis intelligence and a better mental game. As an American I would have LOVED to see that. And IMO, I think it would have been a great match and Dimitrov would end up the victor. I'm curious. Why do you think it was best to avoid him?

Alas, it's not to be.

BTW, there are a lot of interesting possible 2nd/3rd round match ups and beyond. Such as:
Dimitrov (Baby Fed) vs Federer.
Berankis (who many consider Dimi's rival) vs Nadal (Federer's rival).
Harrison (America's future) vs Roddick (America's current star)
Devvarman vs Raonic (The first was a two time college singles national champ for University of Virginia and the Second promised to go to that same university of Virginia but chose to go Professional at the last second instead)

It'll also be interesting to see how Del Potro does.

I watched him against Guillermo Garcia-López and he seemed really good. American public with him...
And if two talented player play against each other never know what will happen.

Grigor lost!

I hope he manages somehow with this obvious psychological problem. This match was exactly like the one with Gasquet. Getting too nervous and lost his service. That's it.

PTWahoo14
03-24-2011, 09:21 PM
Looks like he lost 6-2, 6-4. According to the stats, he didn't serve particularly well and seemed to have lacked confidence from the beginning. He's really improved since last year but still has a long ways to go.

catatonia
03-25-2011, 05:53 AM
Yep, he surely has some problems when he faces higher ranked players on such occasions. It is strange as he had no such problems facing Berdych, Simon and Nadal at the beginning of his professional career. However, I think he needs just a couple of victories to get his confidence and game going and they will come in the near future.

I have to admit that I'm a bit disapointed. Sure I didn' expect him to win 60 60 but such a clear loss ... :-( anyway now it is going on sand. New surface new opportunities...

don't be dissapointed

I was also quite disappointed of his lost to Gasquet, but then a sow his post match interview and realized how different everything looks from his point of view. Grisho's perception is now like in a school - just observing everything and learning, getting experience. He is not frustrated at all. He does realize it will be a long process of transition and even expect this to take a year or two... we should be patient and just follow him in his path. I am sure sooner or later this will turn around

On the positive note now even the haters gave up and don’t bash him so much :lol:

Now the haters got bored. I like that a lot...

I was not comfortable with the Baby Fed/Expectation thing people set on him since a few years ago. I'm a new fan (<1 year) and would like to watch a talented young man starting his career with less pressure. With expectation, some just said "Oh, Dimitrov's overrated or his thinginess was not there." Hmm, he was defeated by a much higher ranking player who played true to his form/ranking.

Having said that, I did believe he could have passed R1 yesterday if he had held his nerves ... His service % said otherwise.

Well, on to the next tournament. :wavey:

Stakhovsky is that kind of guy who knows how deal with the younger players,I'm a little bit dissapointed but don't lost the confidence.Do better next time Dimi :)
