Forget about the calender Grand Slam, he's got that one in the bag after crushing the so called number 1. Can he pull this achievement off, become a living legend and fulfill his destiny? McEnroe was closest to doing this in '84, only losing three times, but Novak is already 18-0, and no one has even come close to beating him so far this year.

Fuck yes!

Only lost 4 sets so far as well, 3 of them to top 10 players.

Terrible thread.

he will be bit, chslapped by nadal on clay, federer on grass, and both of them on hard court as soon as they find their game again
today was the last time you saw nole winning something important in 2011! he might win the canadian or the paris masters, but nothing more

It's possible, all he has to do is win Miami (and he will) and since he'll be seeded number 2 for most of the clay tournaments, as soon as he meets Rafa he should withdraw. On the grass he should skip Queens and withdraw when he either plays Nadal, Federer, Murray, Roddick or Berdych at Wimbledon. After that it's back on the hard courts and he'll own.

I support him but seriously even with this great start, it's too freaking early to ask this.

He showed glimpses of his old self already and we're not even in Miami yet not to mention clay and grass.

If he goes undefeated throughout those seasons then this thread should be open otherwise stop blowing your load early.

And for the record can't shake off the feeling a shock defeat in Miami is in store to someone like Raonic.

Wow, can't believe how many people took this thread even remotely seriously, shows how much the Djokovic bandwagon is on a roll  I was just disappointed and a bit bitter after Nadal went AWOL in the final, and when the Nole Calender Slam thread came up, something snapped it me.

Different question though, do you guys think we ever see the day? That a player is so talented, so much better than the rest, that he goes an entire season without losing? Or is it just too much these days, with 4 slams, 9 masters, and a couple of other tournaments they have to play (don't know the exact rules)?

If Nole gets to quarters/semis in Miami that would be very impressive imo. His chances of winning Miami are less than 50% imo. He must be mentally/physically exhausted. But then again, now that he's number 2, Fed might be in Nadal's draw and Nole might get good draw and do well...but I doubt it.

I presume most of "yes" votes are a joke, it's impossible to ask that from any player, either now or in the future.

It's so hard to imagine that i'll be brave and say that even combination of Nadal/Federer/Djokovic player would still loose some match in a year. It can be small injury, it can be a bad day with many UE, it can be some fresh player that just has their day and does 50 winners from which 20 are on line and you can't do anything about it.

If he can pull through whole year with 5 or 6 defeats i think that would be a great achievement.

Nadal lost to the better player on the day! Deal with it. Nadal isent unbeatable and best of all Djokovic showed everyone how to beat him by exposing a minor weakness he seems to have on the backhand side. if the rest have any sense, they will pumel away at nadal,s backhand from now on.

It's slow, yeah, but you can't slide on HC the way Nadal does on clay. His movement is worse on any HC because his instinct is to slide, while HC specialist will sprint. Mugray, for example, is a good sprinter, which explains his defensive skills on HC, but poor at sliding, which is one of the reasons he's a clay clown.

Many picked Del Potro...honestly, I don't see it (unless Nole has a REALLY bad day). Djokovic is a TERRIBLE matchup for Del Potro. Delpo is 0:3 H2H with Nole, in fact he's never won a set. The thing that becomes apparent when Delpo plays Nole is how bad of a mover he is (relatively speaking of course) compared to Nole. Nole exposes that flaw and magnifies it 10X. Anyway, it will take Fedal (or one of BIG servers who will take Nole's rhythm) to beat him in Miami.

Nadal and very likely next Sunday.

Nadal was in control in Indian wells and I was almost certain he would win after the way he won the first set, but then he just seemed to lose total control of his serve reducing to 25% first serves in the second set which for somebody who normally puts around 67% in court is horrific.

I agree about Indian Wells, but the bounce is lower in Miami and Djokovic can play better than he did in Indian Wells.

But Djoko may be tired.

overall well 50-50 in Miami for me  but I feel there's a very big chance that they meet in final again anyway.

You forgot to mention that while Nadal was serving great in the 1st set and Nole was horrific and that is why Nadal won that 1st set.

Also, you're making Nadal out to be Roddick...so what if his serve was below par? He is supposed to be the best baseliner in the game...losing his serve % still doesn't account for 3rd set trashing from Nole. Are you saying that Nole is better baseliner (or stronger physically) than Nadal? Cause, yes, Nole did serve better in 2nd and 3rd sets (not MUCH better though) but, more importantly, he was outlasting Nadal from the back and winning majority of their rallies. Simple fact is that Nole mentally outlasted Nadal in that final, which is something I thought I'd never, ever see. Losing his serve was a factor but BY NO MEANS the reason why Nadal lost that match. He's no Karlovic/Roddick.

he could be 6-0 5-0 *40-0 up and he will find a way to choke a match like thailand open semis, WTF finals, indian wells finals, and up coming chokes in miami, monte carlo, rome, madrid, french open, queens, wimbledon then his customery 'too tired' and 'too injured' BS will come up.

how shameful is that the so called number 1 ranked player is getting totally outshone by djokovic.

As someone said, most likely a big server, that can take Djokovic out of his rhythm and comfort zone. Guys like DP that whack the ball and love playing from the baseline are perfect for Djokovic who responds with, "anything you can do, I can do better".

But yeah, Nadal or Fed can do it in the potential final. I'd give Rafa the edge over Fed, mind you now that Djokovic has broken through that mental barrier of beating Rafa in a final finally, Nadal probably lost some of his sting and advantage as well.

Hey Nadal didn't lose a single match at the French Open until he met Soderling. Injured or not, it happened : Nadal lost a match in a best of five on clay although that was never happened.

Before IW, Djoko never beated Nadal in a final. He did twice in a row now.

There is a first time for everything.

I think Nadal is still a clear favorite against Novak on clay, especially in the best of 5 but Nole is able to beat him at least one time during the clay season.

Filo V.

Nadal, healthy, on clay, is a different player than Nadal on any other surface, and a different level than anyone else has even remotely shown they can achieve on the surface. We saw what happened last year to Soderling, when in conditions he would like, he was destroyed by Nadal. So unless Rafa has dropped his level, he's not going to lose on clay to anyone, as the motivation and determination will be higher than ever. Nole beating Rafa on HC is somewhat expected at this juncture. Nadal losing on clay would be a shock.

Yes and no. Things about this match make Novak look far more ominous on clay than you might think.

1.) It's slow hardcourt, almost as slow as clay, granted there are other things clay imparts to the ball and movement that hardcourt doesn't.

2.) Novak loves to slide on hardcourt. Don't you think that's an advantage on clay?

3.) Although he hasn't won all that much on clay or beat Nadal on it, he's pushed him hard in the past when he wasn't brimming with confidence, when he lacked a serve, and when his weapons overall were much weaker.

4.) His fitness has much improved. Today it was Nadal that was more tired.

He will tank a match to some mug.

That mentality is pretty much gone. I can see in his interview a burning but understated ambition to fight for the victory in all the tournaments he plays. He will play Monte Carlo, Rome, Madrid, and everything else with the aim to win them. That's not to say that he'll succeed in that, but I don't think he's content anymore with excuses that Nadal and Federer are the greatest ever and that a final or semifinal appearance is good enough.

eclecticist
04-04-2011, 05:52 AM
first loss will probably be to nadal in final of monte carlo unless nadal doesn't make it there. while many don't believe that djokovic will make the final there, he most likely will end up doing so barring injury or decline in concentration because he is beginning to create that aura of invincibility that make players lose to him before they even get on court.

in any case it is probably best for him to lose to nadal rather than federer or some mug as who best to lose to other than the 2nd best (or best ranking-wise) at the moment?

I'm not convinced Federer will beat either of Nadal or Djokovitch on clay if they're both healthy and playing their A games. Federer's game just doesn't match up well with these two on slower surfaces.

As to who'll beat Djokovitch first? It'll probably be a grinder like Monaco who puts in an inspired grinder performance on the clay. It's bound to be someone unexpected, a clay court specialists, who just digs in and won't give it up.

Then at RG, whoever are form players may have a chance as it is three sets for a win. I think getting guys like del Potro and Ferrer in his quarter would be tough.

I know many of these guys have lost form and such but are still dangerous competitors/floaters like Tsonga, Verdasco etc. In RG there could be possible nightmare draws.

So therefore, if no-one else steps to the plate, I 100% expect Nadal to beat Djokovic on clay, multiple times if they should meet often. Nadal will not lose to Djokovic on clay.

I quote this because I like you, even the best can fail sometimes :)

Hard to see who can beat him. Lets try Rafa for the revenge next week ;)

Djokovic will decide when he loses, and not a moment sooner :smoke:

Exactly, only Nole decides when it ends. :p

Maybe it will be better if he lose of some mediocre player in Rome, go down to earth, and makes really good preparation for RG...

Neither Fed nor Nadal. Perhaps injury or illness will be involved. Likely not a GS, either.
