the expected final finally official, the best possible final

can no.1 stop the unbeatable Djoker and ends his streak ?!

Now, it is a match between #1 and #2

a rematch for the USO 2010 F is on, but Djokovic is in different shape and unbeatable in 2011

I think, now we can see how well Djokovic is playing

All evidence points to this being a routine win for Nole, but you never know, it's a final and Nadal doesn't lose to Nole in finals. Still, first time for everything, Nole wins in straights 7-5 6-3.

Going to stick with the stats between Rafa and Nole...and that is that Nole has NEVER beaten Rafa in a final.

Nole has been impressive so far this year, but if there is one player who has got the better of him on every occasion up until now in big matches, it has been Rafa. Nole is the better HC player, he needs to win the first set if he is going to win as all of Nole's wins over Rafa have been in straight sets.

Rafa will be looking to wear Nole down physically, if I'm not mistaken, the final is played during the day, so advantage Rafa. Nole just better not have any issues with his contact lenses or whatever else there is, their last match was so good until Nole was playing with one eye.

I pick Rafa to win, just based on their past matches, either way, I'm happy, as both my favourites are in the final. :)

Off-topic: Rafa and Nole are playing an exho in Bogota on Monday, well at least it's a double treat for RAFOLE fans. :rocker:

I give Nole credit, he's played well all year to start, and he's on a great high right now. However, he knows facing Rafa is NO walk in the park by any means, and he's not guaranteed to win. Rafa is not gonna sit back like Fed, spray errors all over the place, or get soft on break points. This is gonna be much tougher than today's match against Fed, and I have to believe Rafa knows what kind of confidence Djokovic is riding on and what he's bringing to the table, in terms of his game, so he should be ready to go and hopefully come out firing on all cylinders. This may go 3, but I have to pick Rafa to win his 3rd IW title and stop Nole's streak.

Now go and kill each other on the court, then they are off to Bogota on Monday to play an exho against each other :D

If Djokovic plays like today against Fed there's no fuckin way he's winning this.
Even Olderer managed to take a set off Djoker, rising up his game only a little bit, limiting unforced errors.
He needs to be almost flawless for the most part of the game, Nadal will not gift him the third set like Federer did.

Unfortunately, Nadull in 3.

Two hours of tennis is exhausting? They are pros, if they can't handle 2 hours then they shouldn't be out there.

I feel Nole will win as he's just been in better form this tournament. Rafa really isn't match tough yet and part of that is his draw. It's been a fucking joke for someone to make a 1000 final with that. 3 qualifiers and two fallen injured players making their way back. None of those people are officially in the top 50, and Del Po is the only one top 100 even.

Djoko in 3 sets, he is very strong in this tournament, great fighting spirit and excellent defense,

Rafa seems to have problems on his serve ( low first serve percentage --> 48% against Del Potro ), he may win but I think it will be very hard and tough for him, maybe he can win a set but Djoko seems really impressive

Djokovic in 2 close sets. 7-5, 6-4. There is no room to take it to a third against Nadal. If he were to take it to a third, he'd provoke Nadal to play tough tennis, and might wear himself out in the process. Must get it done in 2, no time for BSing.

Exactly. :yeah:

This is a big match. Nadal knows he is defending a shit load of points over the next few months, but he can gain in IW and Miami, so he is going to want to get as much in the bank before clay season and he starts defending.

Meanwhile Djokovic will want to win this because he knows he needs every hard court point he can get if he wants to overtake Nadal at #1.

Mh... very close match... Nadal seems to start matches after 20 minutes, and this may give a set to Nole... but Nole sometimes turns off his game, as it happen today in 2nd and yesterday against Gasquet at the beginning of each set... During the rallies Rafa seems to be more sure and consistant (but we must consider his opponents until now too!) ... SO... a lot of doubt on Rafa in 3.

Oh I think it's important the phisical aspect too... Rafa will rest a bit more than Nole, that played more and a bit later...

Since it is on hard courts and not a best of five final, I guess the edge would be with Djokovic but only by a small margin. Djokovic hasn't played anyone this year who comes remotely close to Nadal's defense and topspin, therefore, it will still be a tough challenge for Djokovic. His aggressive tennis will be severely tested by Nadal's defense.

It promises to be a cracker between the two best players in the world at the moment.

this is going 3 and i think nadal will get him. i wouldnt be surprised to see nadal come and play big in the final. Nadal was really made for these types of matches.

del potro was a huge test for rafa and unfortunately for the djoker he does not match up half as bad for rafa as del potro does (even if his forehand seems to have improved even further). he is not going to make it easy for rafa, i am sure it will go to 3 sets. besides that rafa has looked shaky during his last 2 matches but since this is a final i am counting on his near unbeatable form to show up and clinch this in 3.

Del Potro - Nadal 3-3 on HC

So how can you be confident that Del Potro is worse matchup for Nadal than Djoko on HC? Because he beat subpar Nadal in USO?leaving statistics aside for a minute and just looking at the way these guys play each other i can see that del potro can push rafa back on the court unlike djoker whose shots on both sides do not penetrate as much as del potros. i am not saying djokovic cant beat rafa, just that del potro usually has an easier time doing it which you could see at uso 2009 where rafa was just fine but got outplayed. will he lose like that again? probably not because rafa is a much better player than he was back then (better serve, doesnt get pushed behind the baseline so easy anymore). without going into useless discussion about nadal-djokovic lets just be patient and see what the match brings. :wavey:

Maybe what u say is true, maybe Nadal finds Del Potro harder to beat but they haven't played nearly as many matches as Djoko-Nadal, so after 5-6 more Nadal/Delpo meetings we will know answer to that question I guess.

It's a truly sad state of affairs when this is the top 2.

Hopefully, Djokovic wins and keeps Nadal title drought going. That would mean he's unbeaten this year, which is pretty pathetic for the ATP, but it keeps Nadal from winning.

Just rememeber this guy is a clown. I don't expect for a second he'll win here. Djokovic has god a huge L tattoed in his forehand when he sees pocahontas accross the net. Just go home, Djokomug.

51.3% Djoko vs. 48.7% Rafa
Soooo close :)

I think this is the reality. The Joker looks like he is not from the Earth in 2011.

It's much different than in USO final last year:
-Nadal played better at USO and had much better serve
-It's easier to beat Nadal in 3 Sets matches than in 5 Sets matches
-Djokovic played 5 Sets in SF at USO and the other matches was much much harder for him at USO--->he was tired
-Djokovic unbeaten this year--->better confidence
-Djokovic serves much better(1st and 2nd serves too)

So Djoko will take this title, unless Nadal plays like yesterday+at least 20% improvement(especially on his serve), but it seems impossible to improve that much in 1 day...

Nadal will take this. The 6 months without a title is meaningless. Sure, Federer won a lot in his prime, but for all that winning Nadal still has more masters series titles than him. Nadal peaks for big events, and he'll play his best in the final to take it.

Nadal to win in 3 sets possibly 4-6, 7-5, 6-4..

Slow and high bouncing hard court favours Nadal who started to show good form in his semi-final and mentally looks as tough as ever which must count for much in a final.

Physically this could be very demanding.

something good and something bad will happen: the bad thing of course, is one of two winning a MS and getting some confidence pumping. The good thing, on the other hand, one of the two will lose. Lose the title, lose confidence, lose his hype for Djokovic, lose another shoot at a title for Nadal after 6 months of title drought.

Djokovic has much more to lose in that match. Not only his win streak, but mostly the hype around his name prior to the clay season. A win over Nadal could shake the spaniard's confidence just before the best moment of his season, and prove that Djokovic can beat the number 1 and be a real pretender to the throne. A defeat would wipe out his hopes IMO.

Loving how the poll is 50-50 exactly!

I make Novak fav. The last 2 wins in the h2h by Rafa on HC can be discounted. In the USO final, djoko was exhausted by his semi-final exertions. In London, Djoko's mind was on other things.

Djokovic has proved this year that he is the world's best on hard courts. Nadal has had a cakewalk draw.

An interesting statistic, if you didn't know already, is that all of djokovic's wins against rafa have been in straight sets. Wouldn't be surprised to see the same today. Djokovic opens up all of Nadal's weaknesses on a hard court. I'm expecting the down-the-line backhand to set up many points for him as usual, and we will see nadal scrambling behind the baseline, but losing out.

OK, so the poll is now 50.5-49.5 in djoko's favour :-) Should be a great match though.

I know, if Djokovic loses then it looks like the only difference between last year and this year is he hadn't played Nadal until now. Not saying this is true, but it just doesn't look good for Djokovic, especially with the clay season about to begin where things will be far tougher

What's with this "title drought" talk? He's only played four tournaments since Tokyo, it took JesusFed to stop him in London and he wasn't physically able to compete at his best in the two this year. This is hardly a Rome 09 - MC 10 scenario.

Nadal in 3.

Imo both men play better than in last year's US Open.

For Djokovic everybody knows,

but as for Nadal, I think his backhand has come back to his best, which was not the case last year.

I think it wil be very tight and physical and in this kind of conditions, and Djokovic looking a little bit tired, Nadal fresh, I give a slight edge to Nadal.

By the way I made the poll exactly 50-50 just before the match starts ;) (except that far more people predict Djoko in 2 than the opposite ;) )

I've got to say, I don't know that there has ever been a player with more pressure on him than Djokovic has today. Firstly he's got the pressure of having to face a player who owns him on hardcourts (and even more on clay), secondly Djokovic is defending an undefeated record this year, and thirdly there is a minority perception (that will become majority should Djokovic lose) that says the only reason Djokovic is undefeated is because he hasn't played Nadal yet this year. I sense a lopsided implosion on the way

not in my eyes (which are maybe not the better ones, I admit that ;) ), it was better than in previous matches but not at his best yet : if Djokovic had been able to attack him that day, he would have taken benefit of that weakness, but he couldn't that day.

Yesterday I saw Nadal hit his backhands as he could at his best, and against Del Potro's powerful shots, which are a real big test :yeah:

What are you talking about? In the last 3 years, the only times Nadal has beaten djokovic on a hardcourt have been when djokovic has been tired, injured or focused on other things.

In their fair head to head meetings on hardcourts, Djokovic has destroyed Nadal.
