Last meeting was at Oz last year. Ivo took a set off Kneedal then, looks to be in good form here.

If Rafa plays the way he played Somdev, then Ivo in straights
If the "real" Rafa (not Naderror) shows up, then Rafa in two or three

dr ivo could do it.

nadal is stale, tired, and worn out. this is the time to strike. the blundering fool slaved away for nearly 3 hours last night trying to win his totally meaningless doubles match. he is also playing golf and soccer every single day here.

i say dr ivo in 3.

and to be brutally honest, i wish somebody can put this fool out so he doesnt end up fucking up his knees again. fatigue usually leads to injuries for him on hard courts.

The good thing is Nadal has no doubles match tomorrow. He gets the night match against Doc.

Karlovic in 2 sets, he seems very good in this tournament

If Karlovic wins this he could reach the final.
I mean, we never expect Ljubo to win this tournament last year.
Ivo is playing so good tennis. Sampras must be proud of his SV.

Nadal in 2. Muglovic is a joke of a player, an all serve clown who shouldn't even be playing tennis.

Karlovic needs to hit with zero pace if he wants to have a chance of Raferror showing up, because that's what today's opponent did, make Rafa generate his own pace. On hardcourts Rafa doesn't like continually having to generate his own pace (whereas on clay its a non-issue) :p

I don't see anybody taking him out until the final. And if he faces Djokovic, it'll be a brutal final.

Neil Armstrong is proud of Nadal too.

If Karlovic beats Nadull Miami should be downgraded to an ATP 250 status.

It all depends of Ivo's serve. But Nadal is Nadal. And he will fight to the death.

Dull question: Ivo in 2 easy sets. That's why we love him, he frustrates the lobotomized fanboys that gather on these boards.

I'm not sure who will win, probably Nadal, but in any case Nadal fans should be relieved that this won't be the type of match that will require him to spend a whole lot of energy.

Nadal.

But then he is losing in the SF to Del Potro. Rafaerror won't cut it.

Rafa will be happy to see a fast ball when he plays Del Potro after what he had to put up with yesterday vs the junkballer. The slow stuff brings out Rafa's errors more than anything. Del Potro is what Rafa wants :p

Agreed. I'm pretty sure Nadal enjoyed those fast balls in USO 2009 semifinal. He looked happy there.

rafa has had a look at karlovic's serve when they faced in the doubles a couple days ago.
without the serve karlovic is not a tennis player.

So many people actually think that Ivo has a chance  ??? He can play match of his life from back and he will still lose it . It is too slow for his serve there . Doubt that he will even reach a tie breaker . Something like 6-4 6-3 for cheater

Karlovic has a chance, but he'd have had a better one outside the main stadium.

While the entire world except for some MTF posters is in on a conspiracy to make Rafael Nadal a dominant tennis player, the tournament organizers at IW have shockingly decided to buck this trend by placing Nadal vs. Karlovic on Stadium Two, not the spacious main stadium court. Karlovic has been mowing down Spaniards (and Simon) in straight sets on Stadium Two and Stadium Three. A #1 playing outsideof the main court? Shock, horror, how could they not cater to his every kingly whim.
holy shit this is getting sad :haha:

If Ivo continues to serve the way he has, he definitely has a chance. Nadal himself said while the courts might be slower the ball really flies at IW. This suits Ivo's serve as much as Nadal's topspin. This is Ivo's best tournament result in a long time. He straight-setted arguably the best returner on tour (Ferrer).

Nadal will play 2-3 BH's in the hole match and this isn't adequate tactics to beat him . Ivo will be happy if he will win 20% of 2nd serve points . Karlo would have some chances against nadal on grass , surely not on hard clay

I don't see how Ivo can win this unless he serves unbelievably and Nadal self-destructs in tie-breaks -- and how often does that happen (against Ljubo last year I think). Coming to the net is a losing proposition against Rafa on these courts, he's too good with the lefty passing shots and even a ball Ivo can get his racket on will have vicious topspin and be hard to control. Rallying with Rafa from the baseline... doesn't seem wise. Maybe the James Blake strategy -- muscle every groundstroke and try to hit through the court. Don't know if Ivo can pull that off, especially at IWells.

I think it was a matchup issue more than Nadal just playing bad against Somdev.
The indian was playing a ball with little pace, and that's a harder ball to hit if you play with an extreme western grip that loves topspin. That grip needs pace to be at its most effective.
