I watched this match hoping to offer some analysis upon its conclusion, but I'm afraid I'm unable to do so. That wasn't a tennis match; it was a bloodbath. Almost entirely self-inflicted, may I add. Gulbis' winners to unforced errors ratio will confirm this (1 winner, 28 unforced errors).

Nole's self-confidence must be sky-high right now, which I suspect contributed towards this beatdown.

Hopefully we'll get the anticipated Nole/Fed SF, which would become even more interesting considering that it would decide the immediate battle for world #2. A good chance for Nole to repeat his win over him from the AO.

I mean WTF, seriously???

Djokovic is on a great roll at the moment for sure but this really is something else. After last year's solid performances from Gulbis I never thought I'd see the day he'd get such a scoreline. What happened to him? Didn't he get it together last year?

He barely won the match last round, been bad all year and now this.

Gulbis is a disgrace.
To lose like this is disgusting and shows huge disrespect to tennis.
He should be banned for this disgusting and terrible performance.

Djokovic could've pulled out a chair and had a cup of coffee on the court and he would've still won.
How did Gulbis manage to win a game??
Djokovic must've forgotten to use his hands in that game, surely?

Really, only winning one game to Djokovic is bad enough...but losing like that is even worse.

Q. I’m sure you weren’t expecting a scoreline like that. How surprised were you with it?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: Yeah, I was. Because to be honest, you always expect a tough one, of course. You try to take serious every opponent you have, even though you are a favorite in the match.
He’s unpredictable very much. He has a very strong serve and he has a powerful groundstrokes. But you don’t – if he’s not hitting – if he’s not patient and not hitting the right balls like today, he can, you know, he can miss a lot.
That’s what happened. I was just trying to keep the ball in the court, not doing too much, you know, just returning a lot and making him play an extra shot and changing the pace.
He was not feeling comfortable, obviously.

Nothing else to add, really.

As a fan of Ernests, I am slightly embarrased. I knew he would most likely not win but I thought it might be a tight set or possibly match depending on how 'pumped' Ernests got. Unfortunately, he seemed to be out of place as if he didn't sleep or something. Darren Cahill isn't his coach just helping out because his actual coach is with his family in Argentina. Good Luck to Nole for the rest of the tournament :) It was nothing close to what Ernests can display and even haters know this. He has played great matches against top players. Cahill said on twitter that he isn't "unhappy just frustrated" with himself.

0-40 (three break points) to Gulbis in the 1st game. Didn't break and it was all downhill from there.

The 3 break points all courtesy of Nole who started the match with 3 UEs. Nole was probably only half awake and thought he was still warming up. When he noticed it's the real deal, he kept the ball in play and Gulbis did all the hard work of hitting the ball out, long, or into the net. :o

Did Gulbis take some drugs before the match and thought he was still playing against Simon in Sydney? :spit:

This. Unnecessary, from a poster who excels in stats who I previously had a bit of respect for. So your new game here is hating and making libelous assumptions..hmmn. Your post is every bit as embarrassing as Ernests display yesterday:o

I wont add to your reputation again after today. I gave you a good one today out of pity, and the fact I dont do Bad Reps. Hmmm.

Nice to see Novak feeding off his opponents bad play or non existent play. Nothing ever changes with him. He will prob lose to Fed in the semis and go back to retiring from sore throats and other attention seeking rubbish. As for Gulbis, nothing to say here. Where the heck is his form from this time last year?, is this today's IW 31st seed? yuck

I don't know what are you talking about  Gulbis is one of my favorite players, he showed yesterday a joke performance so people have their rights to make joke comments. Take it easy and work on your sense of humor because with your last post you seem unable to separate serious accusations from joke comments.

yeah... you need to chill out... just because you may have been intimate with gulbis several times in the past, that still doesnt give you the right to pretend like you're his girlfriend... so protective...

Maybe you should try a communication medium which is less scary than the internet. I always laugh at people who tell others to stop "hating" in cyberspace. My advice: get a sense of humour and some thicker skin!

Well actually I have a very good suggestion for ATP/WTA to avoid mug plays like this: If player fails to win for example at least 4 games in match, then 1/2 of his hard earned prize money in current round, goes to his oppononent, or charity, this is just sick to see so many players just tanking matches, not willing to play, but still receiving some 10k for winning 1 game.
