Epic choke by Malisse!!
5-2 to 5-7...He lost so many chances during the set, now in the tie-break. At 5-2 he lost HIS point, started complaining to the rederee, changing his racquet. His style
Devvarman played awesome in tb! But i don't think he really deserved this win, his game was nice only on the 13th game of the last set. But anyway he's a fighter.

Malisse went mental over a call in set 1, then semi tanked the rest of the set.

Woke up after that, overpowered Devvarman, but blew chances in the third set. Then choked from 5-2 in the tiebreak - previously had been far too good in the rally, then loses five in a row.

5 points in a row to close it out, what a Spartan, this Prince of tennis Somdev.

As for Malisse, too many missed first serves, too much clowning in the TB.

It wasn't a major choke, maybe slightly, but more of Somdev really taking control of the points by being solid and hitting DTL and taking initiative. He's gotten more offensive minded and that's been key. He's also hitting the ball deeper, making it harder to blow him off the court. He's also serving better. Really improved his game, great to see. So happy for him.

Somdev played well and took the win. Will be very tough match for Nadal if he keeps up his level. :yeah:

Maybe you're right, but i hate those type of matches where one player plays much more aggressive, totally controls the situation, gets 5-2 on the tb, and then...everything changes. Malisse really started being a clown when he should close this match!

It's 5-2 in the tie-break not 5-2 in a set. It requires only a couple of points for everything to change.

Yeap...just stay within the moment, take it one point at a time and the results will show. Bye bye X Man :wavey: .

This 5-2 showed all the situation in the third set before last rallys.

well yeah, but he played a little passive waiting for a short ball to not give any UEs to Somdev, which did not follow.. but the FH slice when going to the net was :o

And the 1st set was also some kind of self-destructin for Malisse after two lucky Devvarman lets.

You can't change the racket if the strings aren't broken yet. I believe he'd be warned. If he did stay with the same racket, he was probably afraid of losing the point.

The TB was great, was cheering for Malisse who was playing great tennis, until the Indian raised his levels so much and totatlly deserved it. Malisse didnt lose, Somdev took it.

GlennMirnyi
03-15-2011, 02:08 AM
Yeah Malisse didn't clown away the match after losing that point because of his broken strings.

The Belgian clown also couldn't put a single first serve in the whole tiebreak.

nice premeditated net rush at the end there by somdev on the 2nd last point... fair play to the lad for showing he doesn't mind mixing it up under pressure...

but yeah... malisse fans should know that 5-2 to 5-7 is always very possible...
