Journeyman Golubev :o Jesus Christ, Djokovic isn't an extreme mug like Hajek, if you want to play a competitive match with him you have to be more focused.

Good stuff from Djokovic. Merciless in first set; beginning of second set, Nole rolled out his trademarked early-in-set-following-victorious-set walkabout. Decided to focus again after the first two games and slowly picked up his level over the course of the set.

Golubev was nowhere to be found in the first set, but began serving and striking the ball much better in the second set. Obviously though, Djokovic was too big for him.

Keep rollin, Nole. :yeah:

Too bad Nole will go back to the way he's been playing the last 3 years once he loses, which will obviously happen before the FO comes around. Maybe it'll be another extremely close loss to Nadull on clay, or maybe a huge clown loss like against Kohli at RG, but a mug will always be a mug and Fakervic can't help the way he was born.

Enjoy the wins now Fakertards :wavey:

Nole played a sharp match overall, Golubev played the way he does most weeks out of the season. Not a surprising result nor scoreline.

golubev looked sick to me tonight, pale as ever and had a cold sweat going since the beginning of the match. Novak is a terrible matchup for him anyways but andrey wasn't prepared to battle tonight physically or mentally.

Why does Faker get involved in politics and world affairs all the time? Unlike Fed, who was well spoken and respectful at the Hit for Haiti and other charity events, Faker just acts like a clown and trivializes major disasters/turns into a nationalist tard :o

There is so much desperate hope and pathetic delusion in this post. Almost makes you feel sorry for "The Magician."

How deep into the downward spiral of folly will he be driven by this abject bitterness?

Yes, I would say he was as sharp, and his mental walkabout was really only in the beginning of the second set. He played an extremely loose few points in his first service game. However, he was dominant and on point throughout the entire first set, and he began to really take control of the second set around the middle.

I think that even in his best possible form, Djokovic will always have momentum shifts in between sets, for better or worse. And he is often a slow starter. However, his mental game has improved to the extent that he is an even better player from behind than he used to be. He remains calm and is confident that he will be able to turn the match in his favor.

I think that if he can keep up the level and the focus that he displayed this evening, the tournament is his for the taking. However, I take nothing for granted, as there are still a lot of dangerous players in the running.

On the other hand, I think it is good to see that at least someone starring on a TV screen is actually thinking about and showing empathy for people stricken by disaster and grief. Just as he paid tribute to the victims of floods in Australia.

There are more important things in life than grand slam trophies, even if you are a tennis player.
Fed has come to realise this too :)

And there is nothing political about this. People were hit by a tsunami and are now exposed to radiation. It's not like it's civil war and he's supporting Darth Vader.

Or, perhaps he is finally becoming the player he will be for the next 5 years or so at the very young age of 23. I think you expected a bit much from a 20 year old kid. Funny you don't apply those same high expectations to Fed. When did Fed come into his true form? 23 was it? Stop being a troll, no one takes you seriously warlock.

JanKowalski
03-14-2011, 08:57 PM
^True, Fed was kind of a late bloomer himself, which makes his accomplishments even more impressive. It's possible that Djokovic has finally found himself and will be steady from now on.

That is very optimistic. Novak has already been near the top of the game for over 3 years. It is very unlikely he has another 5 left.

Federer won his first Wimbledon at 21. By 23 he had already been dominating tennis for quite some time.

Federer won his first Wimbledon at 21.

21 years and 11 months to be precise.

By 23 he had already been dominating tennis for quite some time.

He was 22 years and 6 months, when he became number 1. He also spent almost 4 years inside the top50, before becoming number 1.

Fed was a late bloomer, comparing to other greats. That's a fact.

21 years and 11 months to be precise.

That is still not the same as 23.

Fed was a late bloomer, compating to other greats. That's a fact.

I wasn't disputing that. I was just refuting the suggestion that Federer only came into his own at 23.

Also when I say he had already begun dominating tennis by 23 I don't mean exactly on his 23rd birthday. I was comparing him to Djokovic who is very nearly 24. At Djokovic's age Federer was one month away from winning his 5th grand slam title.

There development as players is not that similar.

Vida
03-15-2011, 12:40 AM
thats cause fed had it easier.

Arakasi
03-15-2011, 01:20 AM
thats cause fed had it easier.

I'm sure you believe that.

Even if the weak era argument was true, it doesn't actually make any difference. You don't choose your era. All you can do is play against the field.

People knock Hewitt for taking advantage of the weak period between Sampras and Federer but for all we know he could have been just as successful with prime Sampras/Federer in the field during that time. I don't believe he would have been, but nevertheless, you can't diminish his achievements because he didn't beat players that he had no opportunity to even play against.

Anyway I don't know why I'm trying to reason with you. I know it is a pointless task.
