Lu had MP at 7:6* in the tie-break. The Latvian served 19 aces.

Gulbis's third win after saving a match point. This year he lost 4 matches after losing the first set tie-break so important turn around for him :o

Lu DFd at 8-*7 in the second set tiebreak and that was pretty much it. Gulbis served for the second set and lost to 0.

Bad missed opportunity for Lu, but a good escape for Gulbis.

Ernests. :bigclap: Clearly not in the best form but fighting hard.

Lu. :sobbing:

Some sick momentum swings in the end of the second set. I think Gulbis was broken to love at *34. Then I know he won 12 points in a row to serve for the set. Then got broken to love...

Hewitt is even more pissed off.

That is crazy! So only 4 of 20 points on serve between 3-4 and 6-6.

He had a MP at 6-5 and 7-6 I think in the tie-break.

Well Lu had his fair chances, just not having a 3rd time being a charm.

Ok, if I remember right, Lu served for the match, 7/6 5/3:

Lu broken to love.
Gulbis holds.
Lu broken to love again, df on bp.
Gulbis serves for set, broken to love.

Awesome stuff.

Not really a good win, more of a bad loss avoidance

nah I'd definitely class it as a good win by gulbis' standards

Beating a scarecrow is a good win for Gulbis.

Beating a scarecrow is a good win for Gulbis.

oh absolutely, it would come down to whoever got lucky in the tiebreaks (unless the scarerow retires due to having ZERO movement).

Mugbis should just be happy he got past the 2nd round. Let's not forget he couldn't do that for an entire year :tape: At the level of mental development he is at, Mugbis should fulfill his potential by 150 years old. Luckily, with his vast wealth, he should be able to afford bionic limbs and a computer brain with Federer's brain downloaded on it :yeah:

YAY Ernests! Considering his stats in previous tie breaks he did well. He needed a long match for once this year...not sure if he can challenge Novak but it will be an interesting match to say the least....

He just needs to take it to him. If he plays his best tennis and serves well then he's got every chance, he's that kind of player, when he's hot he's a volcano.

I doubt the choice of brain would fall on Fed. Need I remind of say brilliant strategizing vs Pony, brainless brigade would be proud

It was quite hilarious. I was following the scores, with Lu looking like Isner until serving for the 2nd set, and then was broken in double-quick time. Then Gulbis served at 6-5, when I turned away to look at some other scores. 10 seconds later, they were in a tiebreak
