Nice one kid.
Took his chances and played pretty gutsy at times, attacking second serves and coming to the net from time to time.
This kid can grow into something.
That said, GGL was pretty bad today.

No real surprise in terms of the result. I was surprised, however, that just like the Young match, the Tennis Channel didn't show one damn minute of this contest. Those saying that America is the most nationalistic of the four Grand Slam countries (I'd say it is the least, fwiw) might be surprised to hear that they showed Del Potro-Ljubicic over Young-Murray yesterday, and Clijsters-Errani over Harrison-GGL today.

Harrison was spotty at times, but played very solidly for much of the match. Clutch in the TB, especially to go up the first minibreak and on the winning MP.

Good stuff. It is a wonderful feeling to be able to watch an American player and root for him without any sense of shame or self-loathing. :p

And he is the nr. 25 in the world.

I watched most of the match, and I didn't think he played that badly?

That's not to say he played all that great, either, but credit should go to Harrison. The kid's got some game.

I hope you're right. But I think either of Raonic/Fish is tough for Ryan this time. I hope I'm wrong.

Anyway Best of luck to Ryan

From what I've heard, believed, or seen, the future of American tennis lies in this kid's hands.

Lets hope he's not as frail as Roddick, Fish, Querrey, or Blake. Isner is a great guy, but his height is the main limitation in that regards.

I sure would have liked to at least see a little of this match beyond the five seconds they showed of the coin toss, thanks a lot tennis channel. Anyway, this is a solid result for Harrison.

Now, please Tennis channel, show us some of Fish/Raonic.

Maybe because the tennis channel feed goes out all around the world? The world would rather watch Pony and Clijsters.

Harrison played with guts with capital G. He took his chances and came to the net, many ended in failure ;D
His defensive was good, he chased after every ball.
Give him 2 years experience on the tour and he will be a solid top 20. His future looks bright.
But how can a guy like GGL be #25 in the world?
endless points from clay courts?

Ryan Harrison might provide our first threat at Roland Garros since Agassi. I haven't seen him play on clay, but it seems like it would be impressive. He hit harder at this match than what I recall from his USO run. Quite a prospect this kid.

came out swinging, true enough... barely saw the slice backhand i enjoyed watching in uso'10... positively thrashed it today... a fish or raonic test might be a little too meaty for him yet tho...

The match was pretty scratchy throughout but Ryan played a good tiebreak and competed well, most importantly he got aggressive when it mattered most and showed the mentality of a winner, which is what separates these new youngsters coming up from a lot of these veterans you would think be better at this, they have the hearts and minds of winners and compete to the fullest. GGL competed well too but simply didn't play well enough consistently.

Congrats Ryan, major opportunity now to play Roger.

GGL satisfied with beating Nadull, he'll probably never win anything important ever again :o Good win from Harrison anyway, straight set wins over seeded players in MS is about the best sign I can think of for future success even if those players are clowns.

Good stuff. It is a wonderful feeling to be able to watch an American player and root for him without any sense of shame or self-loathing.

If you feel self loathing because of something a tennis player does, you should be ashamed.

Wow, defeating GGL.. not bad. I actually think he has a decent shot against Raonic too, considering Milos is sick/injured.

If you feel self loathing because of something a tennis player does, you should be ashamed.

It was said light-heartedly and in jest. I meant to highlight the plight of the American fan who wishes to support the home team but does not care for the current crop of frontrunners as much as he might like.

Well-intentioned life tip for Cat9: grow a sense of humor. It will enrich your years on this earth, I promise! :yeah:

Awful match from what I saw, I went out early in the 1st where it was a breakfest and I come back and with my surprise there were even more breaks :retard: Some of GGL's misses on big points were just :help: as well.

Still I'm happy Ryan won :)

I was there for the whole thing.

Harrison had troubles once he gained the lead. It seemed every time he got broken back. To me it was totally a mental battle because Harrison had the goods to beat GGL, it was whether he could have the mental strength to believe in himself and execute when the pressure of winning was upon him. All in all, it was a fun match. I think as pure entertainment it was more fun than the Davy Wawa match.
