HUGE UPSET: Sweeting flukes his best career win over Monaco 61 06 61

Disgusting match. Monaco could and should have won something like 60 61, but he couldnt put a ball on court during set 1 and set3. In set 2 he just played his normal tennis and Sweeting's future level tennis was shown.

Also Sweeting had a shitload of luck during the whole match with tons of netcords and balls close to the line.

Not happy at all to see a guy like Sweeting in the R3 of a Masters 1000, doesn't look serious.

Nadal could kill this guy 60 60 48-0 in points.

Juan Monaco must never play tennis again. He was pathetic. Didn't even look like he tried in the third set after dominating the 2nd.

Pitiful. I am thoroughly disgusted by Juan. I had vCash on this. Mug. Ryan Sweeting shouldn't have had a decent look at this at any time during this match. He should have been off the court in under an hour. It's not just a shocking result; it's bad for tennis.

What a joke this Monaco. What is this guy doing on tour?

Expected. Mugnaco is a joke player. Nadal will sort out Sweeting like in AO.

Monaco decided to stop playing tennis for real and dedicate to other things, like going on tv, twitter, and posing nude.

Anyway, how is Monaco top30?

Simple.

Monaco played at 60% on second set and Sweeting had no chance.

On sets 1 and 3 he played at 1%.

Well in that case....

OP, you need to change the thread title. It isn't bizarre enough :)

Shanghai SF points are 32% of his total points

Without them, I think he'd be #65 atm.

Huge upset?? I think Sweeting beating Querrey a couple of weeks ago on hard court was more surprising than pulling a hard court win off a clay courter like Monaco.

Sweeting's FH 80% of the time is one of the ugggliest shot I have seen, greater net clearance than Nadal + Robredo combined.

Not a surprising result given the form of both players and the fact this is in America. Congrats on the victory Ryan, top 90 for the first time!

03-13-2011, 05:31 AM
Oh, and Pico is out of the top 30 with this result. The reason he's been ranked so high is because he took advantage of good draws at the end of last year and did a SF at Shanghai and a QF at Valencia. Remember he was out for months with a wrist injury last year. He's a good player whose been consistently top 40 for about 4 seasons so no-one should mock him.

This is the same Juan Monaco who got smoked at the US Open by Peter Polansky last year. Not sure why this is a surprise.

Pfft, Querrey losing in recent months is never a surprise. Though I'd agree that this result isn't all that shocking even if the scoreline is a bit ridiculous.

You all do realize that Sweeting was the favorite in this match, right??? Usually when I think of an upset I think of something that was not generally expected to happen, while a huge upset is something that seemed unfathomable before (Young over Murray would definitely fall into this).

Also, how do you get enough "lucky" netcords to win two sets both by the score of 6-1? That's a hell of a lot of netcords to have that kind of score differential.

Monaco has always been shit. The definition of an over achieving workhorse who never leaves his comfort zone. Seriously he doesn't move, attack he just sits behind the baseline and grinds like dancer at mermaids. As for Sweeting. GET A SERVE. for goodness sake, i have bigger serve.

You forgot to say, as Flyboy already pointed out, that he was injured for quite a big part of 2010. He still has plenty of chances to gain some points before his Shanghai points come off.

I'm saying this was only a shock for you.. bookies put Sweeting as favourite, and for example in TT - pick distribution was just 38-25 to Monaco, so surely not a big favourite overall

PS. don't call me kid, I'm older than you ;)

Was a little surprised by the persistent money holding Sweeting's price down, when any systematic approach would have Monaco a fairly comfortable favourite.

Turned out Sweeting was far better than expected, particularly in movement and groundstroke solidity. Aside from the second set, where he went awol, he was just much the better player.

Monaco was injured all summer : considering that I think what he did last year was good, reaching this ranking while playing few tournaments.

As for Sweeting he's provisional number 51 in the Race and number 90 in the rankings.

Bookies often make mistakes, so does the market. Monaco should have been priced 1.2 imo, so yes its a big shock.

Remember Canas was @34 over Federer in IW couple of years ago, and Willy should always have been the favorite.

ExcaliburII
03-13-2011, 03:45 PM
Also dont forget that Monaco was @1.2 at 16 60 1-0*

That should have been the price pre match

But seriously though, what happened in the game? Why so large differences? I was expecting it to go the way Nieminen lost to Monaco yesterday.

I didn't see Sweeting's victory (it was at 1.30AM here in NL), but I'm surprised Monaco lost...
