I see about 20 more missed calls coming with these two bombing serves in a 500 tournament that doesn't even have hawkeye.

Both players have some game contrary to what the "vox MTFi" says which sees every tennis player as "awful" :mad:

In this match it will be so nice to see what a stupid tournament this is- without Hawk-eye. I would say 3 TB and win Raonic:D but who knows. Raonic just keeps exceeding expectations, so I'll go with him. He should be tired, but he doesn't let that get to him.

Plus, Roddick is the only active ATP player that I can't stand. Otherwise, I either like a player or I'm indifferent. But Roddick's nervous and jerky moves, his pushing and whining, his ridiculous movement on the court and generally mindless game never fail to arouse the worst in me. :sad:

Yes, a couple of times. I know Raonic has powerful strokes, but his movement isn't very good. Roddick's strokes are less powerful (nowadays) but his movement is better. They still base their games off their serve, that is why I said, sort of.

I have and I'm sure many other (Canadians) people have been following our country's players for years and now that one is a rising star and turning heads we are not allowed to show our gleaming support in fear of some disgruntled MTF members calling us band wagoners. Doesn't seem right.

One thing I'll give Andy Roddick - he's kindof like a Jimmy Connors in a way. It doesn't matter what kind of humiliation he endures, he'll be back the next week with the exact same competitive intensity that he brings every week. I wouldn't be surprised to see Andy R playing at 35.

They're not that similar. Simon's strokes are flat while Murray's are loaded with spin, and Simon has that surprise occasional ballbashing forehand. :drool: Can't say Murray has that. :shrug:

Murray is more aggressive than Simon, but Simon has the better FH. But both are conservative as a whole, then again I find Nadal, Djokovic, Del Potro and Roddick to be conservative too.

i feel sorry for the people who pay to go see this. i'd rather pay to watch paint dry.

It's just amazing that he kept his composure 2 weeks in a row and reach finals.

It depends whether Roddick's shoulder is hindering him. As he was hammering the ball as hard as possible (particularly on serves) yesterday, I guess the problem can't be too serious...otherwise surely he'd be trying to protect the injury rather than aggravate it? :shrug:

The match-up is in Roddick's favour...usually he plays other big servers well. Get 60%+ 1st serves into the court, and Raonic could go the whole match without a look at a breakpoint. Obviously the kid could have a shot in tiebreaks, but Roddick is probably the most clutch player he will have faced all year, and that should be decisive. Rallies play strongly into Roddick's favour...he defends well, so Raonic will always be pressured to hit that big winner, and he is likely to be out of position/off balance in the majority of occasions he goes for one.

Actually whenever he has shoulder problems he starts to hammer the ball, playing spinny shots aggravates the pain.

Raonic will be tired for sure, but he can save a lot of break points, he's very clutch on key points, unlike Roddick.
Serve is the basic weapon of both, but Raonic takes more risk from the baseline, he's capable of playing some longer rallies in opposite of guys like Isner or Karlovic, and If Roddick will push like he often does I think that Milos will take the title.

I have to go with Roddick today..he is just too experienced for Milos!

THe funny part is that it seems likely to me that this is exactly what could happen for years to come. As I said before, there's a Connors-like quality to Andy Roddick. I don't pretend that he's playing his career-best tennis right now, but do you think he's any worse than he was, say, 3 years ago? Or 5 years ago?

His serve is still over-powering. He's still highly mobile. His return game is great. It is true that he does not often play the quality of tennis that Nadal/Federer and now Djokovic play - but it's also obvious that he simply is better than the players ranked below him. Andy Roddick is simpy a better player than Jurgen Melzer. Period.

It feels like he could be a tennis threat until he's 35. As much as I've spent years dissing the guy for being a flake and a disappointment, I think that now I'm start to admire him for being a stalwart of American tennis who diligently carries the flame waiting for the next American GOAT to arrive.

He may not be that powerhouse that rolled over the rest of the ATP in '03, but he's pretty much the same player that we've seen in the 7+ years since and I shit you not when I say that I think he could do it for another 5 or 6 years.
