yes Berdych made a very good return on his only break point of the match and Cilic hardly handled it with a floating crosscourt forehand, but then he was very motivated for a great returning game.

He served well in the second yes, but he was having to defend most of the time because he wasn't doing anything with his own groundstrokes beyond putting them in play.

Idiotic gameplan if you're tired, should have accepted the risk and played more aggressive. Getting stuck on the back foot is just self-perpetuating, you'll be slow to reach the ball because you're tired, won't have the power to make a decent defensive shot when you get there, and all the running will just further tire you.

The last game is a perfect example: 30-30, short ball ...... does nothing with it and loses the point, then the match.

Absolutely - baseline solidity is great against Mugrin Cilic, errormachine extraordinaire. But when Marin actually shows up, and it was clear he wasn't going to beat himself, just stunningly stupid of Berdy not to change gameplan (not that this is surprising, of course).

Berdych must've been awful. Looks like he's turning into the old normal Berdych...last year looks like it was a fluke.

It's actually alright atm though, QF and AO and a win at the WTFs would mean if he wasn't able to defend Miami, RG and Wimbledon and go out early in all 3 he'd still be top 20 and then from there onwards he's not realistically not defending anything till the end of the year so it's not all that bad and he has a while to find that form :lol:

Sure...but he'll fall out of the top 10 and lose his top 8 status, meaing he wouldn't get any decent seedings for the big tournaments, meaning he will lose earlier....so, he has to get that form. He probably won't though, it's looking like a one off thing now...
