ATP Marseille QF: Marin Cilic defeats Tomas Berdych 6-3,6-4tennizen 02-18-2011, 01:37 PM Looks like Cilic won only 12 games:sad: Mr. Butterfly 02-18-2011, 01:38 PM Too good from the Croatian wizard ImmzB 02-18-2011, 01:39 PM Cilic was too good, great performance by him! :yeah: Sorry Berdych! croat123 02-18-2011, 01:39 PM Hell of a match from Marin :D best he's played since he beat nadal in 09 imo that mp :worship: duong 02-18-2011, 01:39 PM Dedicated to the haters :yeah: Cilic played very well : baseline winners, returns, what he knows doing. With a great match point ;) samanosuke 02-18-2011, 01:39 PM One of rare occasions when I have to give a credit to Cilic . Impressive stuffs Coolio_Jack 02-18-2011, 01:39 PM Maybe the best Cilic match since AO 2010. Berdych just couldnt keep up. KaiserT 02-18-2011, 01:40 PM Superb match from Mugrin. RIboy 02-18-2011, 01:41 PM too good , don't know who would beat Cilic today... unlucky for Tomas daddy 02-18-2011, 01:41 PM Marin stayed focus, little brain farted in second set at 4-4 but luckily managed to win the game. Go Marin! rubbERR 02-18-2011, 01:43 PM i have seen many cilic matches and very few times seen him made so few UE's, great match Doomach777 02-18-2011, 01:44 PM mental DŽAJENT Li Ching Yuen 02-18-2011, 01:45 PM Bob Brett travelling with him, making sure Marin gets his daily dose of sandwhiches. Last night, the croatian wizard had a good night out with the French chix. TWO WORDS: IN FORM philosophicalarf 02-18-2011, 01:46 PM Cilic was good, first time in a while. Berdych never showed up, clearly pretty tired after the flu, had nothing on his shots. Gave up on an awful lot of points, just stopped running. RIboy 02-18-2011, 01:46 PM now waiting for "How many GS's will Cilic win: over/under 20" thread :) duong 02-18-2011, 01:46 PM Marin stayed focus, little brain farted in second set at 4-4 but luckily managed to win the game. Go Marin! yes Berdych made a very good return on his only break point of the match and Cilic hardly handled it with a floating crosscourt forehand, but then he was very motivated for a great returning game. Sonja1989 02-18-2011, 01:47 PM Very interesting that everybody can playing well against Berdych.  malisha 02-18-2011, 01:47 PM yup this was good Berdych played well too duong 02-18-2011, 01:48 PM Bob Brett travelling with him, making sure Marin gets his daily dose of sandwhiches. Last night, the croatian wizard had a good night out with the French chix. TWO WORDS: IN FORM on French TV they showed that they had had a very intense practise session this morning Berdych looked a little bit short of energy but defended well, the loss could have been worse. malisha 02-18-2011, 01:49 PM Berdych never showed up, clearly pretty tired after the flu, had nothing on his shots. Gave up on an awful lot of points, just stopped running. it wasnt his best stuff but i thought he was solid expecially in second set and on match point he defend really well Cilic hit some heavy forehand shots in this one Fedal2010 02-18-2011, 01:51 PM Crawl out haters, crawl out. Best match from Marin I´ve seen since the Ao last year. philosophicalarf 02-18-2011, 01:54 PM it wasnt his best stuff but i thought he was solid expecially in second set and on match point he defend really well He served well in the second yes, but he was having to defend most of the time because he wasn't doing anything with his own groundstrokes beyond putting them in play. Idiotic gameplan if you're tired, should have accepted the risk and played more aggressive. Getting stuck on the back foot is just self-perpetuating, you'll be slow to reach the ball because you're tired, won't have the power to make a decent defensive shot when you get there, and all the running will just further tire you. The last game is a perfect example: 30-30, short ball ...... does nothing with it and loses the point, then the match. daddy 02-18-2011, 01:54 PM too good , don't know who would beat Cilic today... unlucky for Tomas Did RIboy's account got hacked? Somebody better alert him or the damage will be irreparable. duong 02-18-2011, 01:57 PM Idiotic gameplan if you're tired, should have accepted the risk and played more aggressive. Getting stuck on the back foot is just self-perpetuating, you'll be slow to reach the ball because you're tired, won't have the power to make a decent defensive shot when you get there, and all the running will just further tire you. well when Cilic plays badly it can be a good plan ;) and he was not so far from being a break up at 4-4 second set. As for Cilic, I think winning one tie-break yesterday made wonders for his confidence : I always thought that his problem is mostly a lack of confidence. philosophicalarf 02-18-2011, 01:58 PM well when Cilic plays badly it can be a good plan ;) Absolutely - baseline solidity is great against Mugrin Cilic, errormachine extraordinaire. But when Marin actually shows up, and it was clear he wasn't going to beat himself, just stunningly stupid of Berdy not to change gameplan (not that this is surprising, of course). ossie 02-18-2011, 02:06 PM this is why birdshit will never amount to anything in his career, even flukerling is better than this clown. timafi 02-18-2011, 02:14 PM  :lol::bigwave::bigwave::bigwave: Nadull_tard 02-18-2011, 02:18 PM Good job, Marin. Result was totally expected. djokovicgonzalez 02-18-2011, 02:27 PM this is why birdshit will never amount to anything in his career, even flukerling is better than this clown. Even that pathetic 2-time slam finalist, top 4 player, and masters 1000 champion. oranges 02-18-2011, 02:32 PM now waiting for "How many GS's will Cilic win: over/under 20" thread :) Will you start that one too? Haven't seen the match, but good to hear he's finally showing some of his best stuff. It's been a while. Tomas  Certinfy 02-18-2011, 02:41 PM Why did Marin have to start playing well now? :o But good he did in a way, I don't see why he's hated as much as he is. Tomas  Better luck in Dubai :) EnriqueIG8 02-18-2011, 02:41 PM ffs Tomas, Cilic is in terrible form this year how did you lose this one  Gonna lose a lot of point in IW/Miami Nole Rules 02-18-2011, 02:47 PM One of rare occasions when I have to give a credit to Cilic . Looks like he's turning into the old normal Berdych...last year looks like it was a fluke. bleu_cheese 02-18-2011, 05:19 PM Well done. I thought he actually looked pretty good even during his loss last week, so this form bodes well for the future. Certinfy 02-18-2011, 05:19 PM Tomas really needs to find that RG and Wimbledon form again, was insane stuff... :o Sapeod 02-18-2011, 05:31 PM Berdych better hope he finds that form, otherwise he'll be out of the top 15 in no time! Certinfy 02-18-2011, 05:33 PM Berdych better hope he finds that form, otherwise he'll be out of the top 15 in no time! It's actually alright atm though, QF and AO and a win at the WTFs would mean if he wasn't able to defend Miami, RG and Wimbledon and go out early in all 3 he'd still be top 20 and then from there onwards he's not realistically not defending anything till the end of the year so it's not all that bad and he has a while to find that form  Sapeod 02-18-2011, 05:35 PM It's actually alright atm though, QF and AO and a win at the WTFs would mean if he wasn't able to defend Miami, RG and Wimbledon and go out early in all 3 he'd still be top 20 and then from there onwards he's not realistically not defending anything till the end of the year so it's not all that bad and he has a while to find that form  Sure...but he'll fall out of the top 10 and lose his top 8 status, meaing he wouldn't get any decent seedings for the big tournaments, meaning he will lose earlier....so, he has to get that form. He probably won't though, it's looking like a one off thing now... oranges 02-18-2011, 05:58 PM Berdych better hope he finds that form, otherwise he'll be out of the top 15 in no time! If I were you, I'd be more worried about Muzza's form in the coming months  finishingmove 02-18-2011, 06:14 PM lmao Sapeod 02-18-2011, 06:28 PM If I were you, I'd be more worried about Muzza's form in the coming months  I'm not worried about either's form. 1. Murray will be back to good form in Indian Wells. 2. I don't care about Berdych... So, I'm not worried at all. abraxas21 02-18-2011, 06:32 PM both huge mugs at least one of them is gone cobalt60 02-18-2011, 06:34 PM Finally a decent win for him this year. Nidhogg 02-18-2011, 06:53 PM Cilic is striking the ball with more and more authority over the last couple of weeks. Good performance today, and Berdych might well still have felt a bit sluggish after his flu. Sapeod 02-18-2011, 06:53 PM both huge mugs at least one of them is gone Agreed.
