He just needs to go far in some of the Masters 1000's coming up and that will be easily attainable.

Nice win for Delpo. Obviously the more talented player won here. Wins like this slowly but surely enough rebuild his confidence. Nice to see him heading in the right direction.

Good that his returning is improving, earlier in his comeback he was barely winning points on return now he's breaking john isner!

This is a very important victory for Delpo. These are the sort of rivals he needs to start beating. Well done.

i think clay will do good to del potro.......he won't gain much from these hardcourt wins......clay is the best surface to bring a player's game back.......

so good from Juan :woohoo:
it's clear he rushed his comeback last year and that the offseason and rest did him a lot of good :D
he only has points to gain from now on, so it's back into the top 100 for him in no time :yeah:

I think first he needs to get some big points in smaller tourneys like the 250 ones and get his ranking up there.
In the Masters Events he will need a lot of luck with the draw as he is not seeded.I don`t think he is ready to beat a top player yet but if he gets lots of matches under his belt then he can get back to a top level

Del Potro has FULLY recovered from that wrist injury. No more physical issues, it's all about the match play from here on in. He's hitting the ball as clean as ever and his power is there. With matches comes an improvement in his movement around the court which will allow him more time on the ball so he can make less errors and really tee off on those HUGE ground strokes. John is the injured one here. IMO he still hasn't recovered from that flu i think he picked up in NZ and it's a reoccurring thing. Time off should do the trick as the results indicate that it is hammering his style BIG time.

I didn't see the match as there was no bloody stream :o But judging from stats/score only a few points made the difference. Both of these guys ARE great for the tour as their interesting personalities and styles shut out the large consensus of bland tennis players who play on the tour. Del Potro will win this tourney anyway as he's the best in the draw and no one can beat on this form. Funny to see this in the 1st round seeing as though both will be top 15 players by the end of the year.

Typical MTF overreaction. Let's take it one match at a time. SF would be an excellent result, speaking of titles at this stage doesn't make sense.

Isner looked awful judging by stats. Double fault, double fault, 2nd serve, loses point on 1st serve...

what kind of strange theory is that?
del portro will gain much from each and every single win he gets, no matter the surface.

I think first he needs to get some big points in smaller tourneys like the 250 ones and get his ranking up there.

unfortunately until summer (after Hamburg and Washington), he will only be able to count ONE ATP500 result and TWO ATP250 results

... unless he decides not to take part in some Masters Series tournaments (Monte-Carlo not being considered here).

We already know that he used his protected ranking for Indian Wells and Miami, then it leads to Madrid and Roma.

If he doesn't take part in Madrid AND Roma, he will be able to count two more ATP250 results ... but I doubt he will miss both of them, only one I think.

Anyway, to improve his ranking really quickly, he really needs big performances in big tournaments.

Memphis is not easy but possible.

Awesome! Hopefully this is a sign of a comeback. The tour needs more GS threats than Nadal/Fed and Djokovic every 3 years. Hopefully he will be in decent form and within the top 50 by the time th USO comes.

Who does he play next?

i believe that clay is the best surface to tune del potro's groundstrokes and bring back the lost mechanics in his game.......he should play on clay and then take that game to hardcourts.......that's when he will become as effective as before.......at present he is achieving nothing more than some match practice.......

montecarlo is where it all starts for him if you ask me.......

duong, why did he get so many zero pointers in those 500 tournaments slots? Are those some sort of penalties?

Isner :o Out of the top 30 and not looking good with the clay season coming up. It's truly a dark day for US tennis when Canada has the big young hope and the USA has a bunch of clowns :sobbing:

He will return, I hope. He was very unlucky in America last year, I think after the US Open his ranking will be much better.
Maybe in Delray Beach in next week he has chance for the title.

Isner must've played pretty bad to lose like that. Del Potro isn't even that good atm and Isner still lost pretty badly. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad loss.
