Nando. :woohoo: Looking good to defend San Jose! :bounce: Vamos! :rocker2:

Delpo. Not a bad effort, stretching a top 10 player to 8 games. He's on his way back. Good week for him.

Honestly, I see Raonic winning this final

quite bad week for him actually, he needs more matches top level and not play journeymans, well at least ranking points

Damn. :((

Still too many concentration lapses from Del Potro. This was a really winnable match, especially given Verdy's nerves when broken in the second set. But he's getting there.

Hiqh quality match I thought, lots of great rallies out there.

JMDP looked good, but a bit sluggish and a bit tired at times to me. His fine movement was off a bit, but this will all come in time.

As for Nando, he looked great. Destroying forehands, serving well, not choking, even a few backhand winners up the line, good stuff.

Del Pony still soooooo far from his best form.

A GS winner losing to Fiasco is a bit pathetic.

Verdasco is starting to look decent again, I welcome that. When he's bad, he's REALLY bad and painful to watch. When he's in form he is actually pretty enjoyable to watch. Less Fiasco and more Nando :yeah:

Del Potro still not "there" quite yet, but it's good for him to get some quality matches early in the year. I don't expect him to do anything of significance until the fall, if he does then it's a plus.

Verdasco was just too good, I havnt seen him play this well since the match vs nadal. As for delpo, he needs more matches but the shots are there.

I called it! I knew Nando would win with such a strong serve. He has been clutch this entire week. Very well deserved win today!

A few errors but otherwise an almost flawless match from Nando today. He even seems mentally strong! And this is Nando we're talking about! I mean.. shit. Amazing stuff!

He has no chance of winning if Nando is as clutch tomorrow as he was today.. nando has just been so strong the entire week. He is in good form and seems very confident.

Del potro i though played a very clean match, quite high quality from him. BUT with the way Nando has been playing as of late that isn't enough. Nando has been money recently, his forehand is suburb as is he rest of game. When on he is a joy to watch and right now he's on. Everything is clicking and he is playing some grand slam winning tennis. His hair cut has done wonders for him, he's like new player. the pink crew works and gives him more freedom when striking the ball. Today Del Potro was outclassed in very aspect of the game by the better foe. Juan would would be cheeky and crack a HUGE forehand down the line, but Nando would reply HEY i can do better and he did. The verdasco of the 2009 Australian open is finally back.

i can see fernando cracking the top 5 in place of Murray very soon on this form. Milos has no chance tomorrow.

cannot agree more on concertration thing. He seems to be casual at some important points.

He flapped his leg sometimes. Don't know whether he felt good in this match physically.

Not too bad for Del Potro. He only had 4 matches this year and for months. He got in four more here and Verdasco didn't have an easy time. That's only 8 matches in awhile.

So he'll rest up before the first round matchup with Isner at the:
ATP- Regions Morgan Keegan Championships- Memphis- 500 Series-Feb 14th-20th 2011
A few days rest.

He looked rusty at times, his footwork was at times a little clumsy, the shots were there at times.
He didn't really play confidently as his shots were not too reliable.

Good to go easy at first, see that the wrist is OK and not to push it too much for now.

Really, when?

2010 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Rome
Verdasco, Fernando 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-4

2010 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Monte Carlo
Verdasco, Fernando 6-2, 6-2

Also trashed him in Kooyong like 6-1, 6-0, but Nole played like shit that entire event and even lost to Tomic iirc

Good job Nando

when in form he's one of the most exciting players out there

The final will be tougher than it looks at first sight though. This Raonic gives u no rythm and it might be a tough one.

Let's hope Vardsco dismisses him like he did with Ivo

Are you kidding? Del Potro was nothing special on clay even in '09. He won't be getting to RG final.

Delpo continues to climb back up the rankings with another good week's worth. Nice and easy.

Elbarto
02-13-2011, 04:31 PM
Del Potro is ranked top 300 but Del Potro seems to play like a top 20/30 player this week, it's a good result for a player who was injured such a long time,

if his wrist is still ok then he will be probably ranked at least top 30, top 20 at the end of the season if he manages to win an ATP250 event and make a good summer season on hard court

Mungo

When will his protected ranking/wildcards expire? It will be interesting to see if he's done well enough to be in the main draws when it happens.

Elbarto
02-13-2011, 05:00 PM
I think his protected ranking will expire in june, after Roland Garros,

but Del Potro will have probably some wildcards, he is a value player who can make tournaments attractive for sponsors and tournament's directors

Orka_n
02-13-2011, 05:04 PM
Delpo will of course continue to receive wildcards if he keeps improving like this. And it's extremely good for the game that he's getting back on track.
Sadly he couldn't pull this one out but every win is a step in the right direction.

It's more like top 200/300.

Just a pity that one of these guys had to win.

It was a good week for Delpo with his victories over players ranked in the top 100 - 50. Of course that is going take him time to play good tennis. I think that if he can finish ranked in the top 20 at the end of 2011 that would be a good year for him. Congrats for Verdasco for the victory. Really looking forward for tonight final.

the protected ranking can be used for 9 months, and Del Potro didn't need to use it to play Tokyo last year because his ranking was still good enough.

I think he will be able to use it until september.

Anyway, it would be better if he goes back to top-50 this summer (it will be hard to climb quickly before as he can only count one ATP500 result and two ATP250 results so far, and it will be like that until Hamburg and Washington have been played) to be able to play the MS1000/ATP500 tournaments of the end of the year.

For clay season I think he'll be too short this year, esp as he needs good movement and stamina for that.

But from 2012 he will surely be a main threat for Nadal on clay whatever deluding people like Topspindoctor want to think

I think Soderling is better on Clay, BUT Delpo is a bigger threat to Nadal on Clay. If that makes any sense. Soderling is a changed man this year though. The new coach has done wonders for his confidence and this is the best I've seen him strike the ball since RG2009.
