No surprises here, Hewitt can be pretty awful these days.

Juan Martin had to play some decent groundstrokes though. I think this match is another key step in his recovery against a player who had the potential to exploit any lingering weakness in the del Potro wrist. It'll be really interesting to see Juan Martin play Verdasco, should he win just now against Denis Istomin.

This is what we in the business like to refer to as a "comprehensive destruction".

Comfortable for the big man. Hewitt still wasn't hitting the ball great, making errors similar to those in the Dabul match, but take no credit away from Del Potro. For a guy coming back from injury, that was a seriously good performance. On his way back to the top 10 if he can stay healthy.

Too good from del potro... Rusty never looked like troubling him in this one.

Del Potro doesn't need to unleash his monstrous forehand and still wins comfortably.

Hewitt hit a torrent of FH errors throughout the match, especially in the games in which he was broken, along with a few untimely double faults; needless to say he didn't play well. He was trying to approach the net a bit to mix it up but didn't find much success doing that, Del Potro was passing well especially a great inside-out FH pass midway through the first set.

I really thought Hewitt should have tried to hit some short slices, dropshots, anything to get Del Potro off the baseline where he was dominating. Besides that it was a pretty strong performance from Del Potro, serve was pretty good apart from a few service games where his 1s% dropped, easily winning the CC FH rallies and finding his range with the FH DTL as the match went on. Looks likely to win the title.

Del Potro looked pretty good out there :yeah:  Hewitt isn't in his best form at the moment and was not ready for this match.

Hewitt has become such a joke. He can't even counterpunch effectively these days. On paper he should be a nightmare match up for a brainless ball basher like Mug Potro, but no, he has to go and get routined like a journeyman by making a million unforced errors. He should consider retiring before the clay season or I have a feeling he'll embarrass himself even further.

How can Lleyton focus on the Slams and Masters, when he's not able to perform well at smaller tournaments, let alone win one? He needs to gain points at the 250's and 500's, cause otherwise he will get another bad draw @ Indian Wells like the Nalbandian-one in Melbourne. You can't always blame the draw and his lack of matchpractice due to injury. I don't understand why he believes that he can beat them at the bigger tournaments when he's having so much trouble with a guy like Dabul in San Jose.

And it's good to see Del Potro back on track!

Regardless of the fans preferences, ATP needs in-form Del Potro.

maybe he spent all his money bringing groundless lawsuits and needs to earn a living? Why else would he keep embarassing himself?
