How do you edit stupid pole???? :o

I think because Nole is 7-4 in matches & 16-9 in sets H2H and wasn't always in such good form and only lost when tired (ATPMC -07, USO -10), inexperienced (IW -07) or won more points (Olympics -09), he is the favourite when these two play on hard courts. Yes, I think Novak in top form will beat any Nadal (including Toni).

You know, I am really disappointed by how NOT helpful you guys are! It has been nearly a full HOUR since I asked how you edit a pole and NO ONE has replied! I have to say, this is not so nice...

I'll tell you why.

Because this is a stupid thread with a stupid poll (that is how you spell it) about a topic no one can truly answer.

That, and it is a Friday night.

Well, thank you, but I would like to have the Rafa & Nole options in two different groups if you follow? So that the first 3 are Rafa and the bottom 3 are Nole? The current layout is a bit confusing and difficult to overlook.

This is an above average quality and relevance, hypothetical match-up GM thread imo. 2003 has made many similar threads.

this is a tough one because although it can be argued and may be likely that Djokovic played at a higher level at Australia 2011 than Nadal US OPEN 2010, you have to consider the two players overall. Rafael Nadal never gives up and although Novak has improved his mentality over the past few years drastically, he certainly is not as fit as Nadal (assuming no knee problems arise). Also factor in the fact that Djokovic has more often than not failed to defeat Nadal at bigger stages and may not have as much belief as Nadal. let's face it, Nadal almost always is going to know that he can win a match against Djokovic and is always going to play like he knows he can. SOmetimes Djokovic against Nadal doubts himself a lot. So I would say in this hypothetical situation that although Djokovic might have more talent at the time, he would lose in best of five scenario due to weaker mentality / physicality.

May depend which Djokovic : Djokovic's Melbourne SF one would win in 4 imo, Djokovic's F one was a little bit physically diminished imo (movement esp+serve, he just took his opportunity in first set then he was confident and Murray killed himself) then I think Nadal would have beaten him physically.

I don't think Nadal played that great in USO, I think he played better in WTF imo.

Btw Mjau could you write with an usual font ? it's hard for me to read you, I4ve nearly given it up, and I don't think you write not to be read ;)

Same match, same outcome.

Rafa in 4.

Nadal in 4 sets.

Djokovic was at a similar level in US Open and AO finals in each case hitting more unforced errors than winners (ratio was more favourable in US Open final) and Nadal hit 49 winners to 31 winners which is very impressive. On the form in each event would expect Nadal victory.

Nadal played well in the US Open final -- credit to him for that -- while Djokovic was in similar form at the last two slams, so I don't see the result being any different than the final score.

Your question is specifically about US Open 2010 and AO 2011 and your analysis is based on general hard court level. Nadal at the US Open 2010 played at a level far higher than he had ever played at the US Open before that year and probably better than any other time on a hard court.

I give the edge to joker in 5.

Taking nothing away from Novak's great victory in Melbourne, I'd still have to say Nadal in 4.

Rafa, definitely. The most spectacular part of Novak's game the entire tournament was his defense -- and great defense will virtually always get you nowhere against Nadal. Until the Joker steps up and proves he can take on Rafa at the highest stage, I would always give him the edge.

Since Rafa played his best ever in that USO final and Nole was clearly below his best, I'd say Nole in 4 assuming he'd play like the Nole we saw against Federer. I have no doubt, I still think Novak is a better HC player than Rafa.

totally disagree with that, Nadal has several times played better than that on hard courts (esp he had a better backhand in WTF 2010 and AO 2009), he just met a poor Djokovic that day who gave him short balls, the Djokovic from AO SF played good crosscourt forehands which is a great weapon against Nadal when his backhand is not on top (ask Davydenko who loves playing that crosscourt forehand against Nadal)

Australian Open 2011 is certainly the best tournament Novak has played. He was not so good in USO last year, especially not the final in which he was mentally and physically fatigued after marathon win over Roger in semis. Rafa was not so special in this tournament either... he played better in winter -09 and summer -08... but draw was very easy... Piece of cakewalk for Rafa...

If they met in slam SF/QF I'd pick Novak(if he played on the level that he displayed against Fed&Berdych),in slam final I'd go with Nadal.Overall in slam finals I feel Novak plays at or even below the level he displayed during the whole tournament while Nadal usually raises his level in slam finals considerably.
