Not a great match, but Robin got it done in the end. Win this now.

IMO good match, Soderling finally looks like a stable mental player, but needs to win some tie-breaks against Federer...

Yeah, agreed. Both solid from the baseline and it was a pure passion game.

That was a real battle. Not tons of overwhelming winners, but great baseline duels.
Clutch in the TB from Toad.

Youhzny played great, he would have won against most players indoor today. But Robin played his best when it absolutely mattered, so kudos for that.

Soderling wants to remain as number 4 badly.

youzhny played on his highest level and still didn't take a set from Toad. 10 str8 sets to Robin now.

A "Soderling - Tsonga" final would be epic.

great fight, and impressive from Söderling with few unforced errors.

His face looks tired  but he's very focused

Youzhny served very well but made a little bit too many UE (actually he tried to go more for his shots than usually because he knows that he's used to being dominated by Söderling's power : in their previous matches it was like that)

Agreed with the OP, not a great match
Hoping for a Tsonga - Soderling final

That's Roger Federer, followed by Novak Djokovic.

Maybe Rogie was, but he is going downhill faster than Lindsey Vonn!

Novak is average top player indoors on fast surface...

Yes its LV:lick::p, i think its at the French 09.

I think Youzhny served really good and his FH was better then usual and offcourse Bh was lethal. Impressive from Toad to win in str8s.

Good standard of play from both players.

Any Bergerac fans may have noticed a gentleman in the audience with a handlebar moustache. Take that away, and he's the spitting image of Terence Alexander who played Jim.:D

Yeah that's why he's won Paris and the WTF. Because he's mediocre.

Same for Roger, he won WTF 4 months ago because he's going downhill.

Paris was slow in 2009 and he (Nole) won Masters Cup because of weak competition (Fedal injured, Murray stupid, etc).

Roger has ZERO  slams for first time in 9 years so this is very worrying...

You think it can be possible in the middle of November in Shanghai. :tape:
A friend of mine who has been there when Nole won the cup said it was freezingly cold outside of the stadium.

Because it's held in the 3rd week of October?

You know the difference of temperature between in October and in November is quite noticeable in the far east.

2010 Masters 1000 Oct. 10th

Some serious tennis knowledge is being passed around in this thread. Especially that Djokovic won because Murray was stupid bit.

:spit:

He drained himself in long, pointless match with brokeback-Roger before semis, while Nole was sneaky and unsportsmanlinke enough to tank vs Tsonga... So there is another reason why Djokovic won, dubious sense of sportsmanship!

I was there to witness this match live, and imho, worth every little penny I paid for.

A great fight. Soderling's very solid, power-shots (bombs?) against Youzhny's subtle, elegant playing style (that backhand of his is a pure BEAUTY when it's on :worship:), and though from the scoreline it looks like a rather comfortable victory for Sod, I can ensure you that it was NOT.

High tense, top-quality battle. Loved every minute of it, and so did about 99% of my fellow crowd out there. Actually, one of the few matches this week in Rotterdam where the crowd was really 'into it'. During the 2nd set TB, about everyone was rooting for Youzhny to be able to take it to a 3rd, but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be.

Both players got a well-deserved standing ovation after the match had ended. :yeah: Kudo's to BOTH for putting up a great show of tennis.

Just for the record: don't let ANYONE ever again say that Soderling is just a 'fluke'.
Fully rooting for him to defend his title now, unless, perhaps.... if Ljubicic manages to make the final as well. :)

So how is Shanghai Masters played outdoor then?

Closeable roof. Shanghai masters is outdoors, with the roof only when raining. TMC it was always played with it closed (there's no choice, they were using an indoors surface that would get ruined if it was rained on).

I love the stadium design (all the "petals" swivel individually, until the roof is a covered whole).

Thanks mate! - not THAT much of a live report, though!

Everyone in the crowd seemed to have enjoyed this match a lot, so I conclude from what I heard all around me at the bar afterwards ;). And it was very nice to see that about everyone cheered for both players. We would really have liked to see this go to three, indeed, but whatever, it was a great show from the both of them.

Youzhny,
Soderling, VAMOS! :p

:smoke: yep, Shanghai is outdoors, unless it's raining cats-and-dogs over there. I gather they rather put those cats-and-dogs in the local pizza whenever they get the chance.

Impressive mentality shown by Robin in this one. Youzhny played on a high level and was really in the zone towards the end of the second. Good show from both guys, and the crowd were really into it.

Thank you. I've always thought they were held on the same venue but now I see I have been mistaken. My bad.

They were held on the same venue. The retractable roof was just always closed for the TMC due to the date.

Thank you. I've always thought they were held on the same venue but now I see I have been mistaken. My bad.

Same venue/center court but with roof, there has always been plenty of outdoor sidecourts around it though, one of them being quite big. I guess there is some sort of tennis academy going on there aswell.
