Young was leading 5/3 *30/0 in third set.

Don had that right in his hands and let it slip away. With that said, Richard stepped it up with his power and with risk when he was behind and it payed off. Still, an ATP QF opportunity missed. Just didn't have the mentality to be aggressive when ahead. He got defensive and started spinning the ball in and got creamed.

I really like Berankis, he plays so mature!

Berankis had 6-4 *4-3 , strickly mental match, very good that he managed to pull the win. Young showed some real life, was in control , saved tons of BP's on the 11th game and 4 MP's aswell. Big match for a youngster.

Nice example how to spend one extra hour on court, but fortunately Berankis avoided the mocking wave coming from MTF posters.
Now Young will be the laughing-stock.

Both guys were very nervous during parts of the match, but Berankis' confidence really showed itself in that third set. The confidence difference and power difference exposed itself at the end of set 3.

Young surprised me this time!! Did not look like a clown on court. Too bad he choked!!

Oh, and like I said, they have similar games. I got a bad rep saying no, Don sucks, but they play similar games. But the difference in overall strength is great, and when Don got nervous, he couldn't fight through it, and he didn't have the weight of shot to weather the storm. Berankis got on top of him and it was on his racquet from that point on.

Young showed some fight which I like to see, but then when he was serving for the match he choked. He still has to work on his mental game but he has gotten a tad bit better. Berankis should have won in straights but gave away the 2nd set and it almost cost him. Good win for him though.

Berankis was 100x the player Young was until he served 64 43. Then he got completely lost. Young gifted the match away then from 5-2* up in third. Beyond RIdiculous.

It would've been embarrassing to lose to Young, so it's good that Berankis clinched it.

oh, and DOnald Young is definitely a huge talent, although a headcase at the same time. That forehand is lethal and it can provide amazing winners from impossible angles. Consistency is just not there unfortunately.

Yeah. Berankis has a lot more pop despite being a couple inches shorter. With that being said, I think Don could definitely turn up the pace if he wanted. It seems he is only content to roll the ball in most of the time, though.

He's got a wonky forehand. He has great timing but little core/lower body strength, at least from appearance. So, he can't generate power from his core without overhitting and missing, from what I've seen, and he has no confidence obviously. Most of his power comes from timing the ball and directing pace, which is hard to keep up for extended periods. He would be a better player if he moved like players somewhat similar in style to him like Nieminen or Hewitt but he's not that great a mover, either.

Don doesn't have one thing in his game that he can hang his hat on and define as his strength, and that's his biggest weakness, even more than his mental side.

Berankis played some great shots in this match and dominated most of the rallies. Anyway, he made some silly mistakes with the backhand at the net, and also on serve return.

Young also showed some good tennis, especially in the end of the second set, but he simply lost it after that DF at 5-3 30-30...

Raonic will destroy him.

Aw shame that Young choked at 5-3 30-0, though Berankis kinda choked at 4-2 in the second set :lol: Hopefully this loss won't set Young back even more...

DID you see match until Berankis led 6-4, *4-3 ? :lol: Berankis is 10 times better than him, although Young and started to show not bad results ( wins against Farah, Kindlman, van der Merwe) but and this Donald Young is nothing with his footwork on court comparing with Berankis. He just stupid choked but to do come back like this was - can do only very strong players. And this match was clear, no fix, so this comeback was EXCELLENT.

Young has no real weapons except grinding and hitting fh passing shots, horrible serve, piss poor bh, he can't generate own pace, can't hit a winner to save his life, wannabe little Nadal.....

Berankis has tons more talent, but his in-play decisions are sometime so dumb, he goes to Youngs fh all the time, although Youngs bh is way worse, when he has easy put aways that bounce high close to the net he goes cross court with his bh every single time giving Young a slim chance to somehow hit a fh winner. Has the kid ever heard of a bh down the line? Or a slice, chip or dropshot in such situations. Young passed him like 5 or 6 times this way. He tries to dropshot, but mostly at the wrong time, and his height could be a major issue, he misses those couple cm badly, but he is an exciting player to watch...
