Qualies start Feb 26th, sign in for qualies is Feb 25th at the host hotel in Dallas. One wild card singles spot has been filled from a local wild card tournament at TBarM Racquet Club. The winner of that event was Dane Webb(USA). There will be a doubles wild card tournament held this weekend at TBarM. The winning team of that event will receive a spot in the main draw.

One of the best run challengers of the year, with great live streaming and scoring as well. If I were entered I might have actually considered playing elsewhere for much easier points, as man do they have a stacked draw this year!!!

Tomic has contacted our tournament regarding a wildcard. The USTA frowns upon us giving out main draw wc's to non Americans, but Tomic would be a nice draw for our tournament. Make sure to check our live streaming coverage in hi definition starting Monday afternoon February 28th at www.frontrowtennis.com

Great field. Wish Wolmarans was able to play. Tomic is a good WC draw but don't think he will do well on the quicker courts.
Hope I can make it out early in the week.

Actually the courts were resurfaced less than a month ago, so they will not be playing as quick as in years past.

Great job as always TBarm. Who do you suspect will draw better of the WCs, Tomic or Kudla/Sock? My gut instinct would be Tomic based solely on talent, as he is light years ahead of the other two in terms of overall game and future potential at the present moment (and I tend to think that people attend challengers to see future stars regardless of nationality).

Looking forward to following the tourney starting next Monday!

only 20 guys signed up for qualies. the 3 futures tournies in south texas really hurt our qualy draw, but thats ok. 18 draw actually. jp futtero pulled out after signing in and michael yani got our last main draw wc. yani was a semi finalist last year and has a lot of friends and family in the area and is also a great guy. matches start at 10am and i'll start posting results at noon(central). let the fun begin.

Thanks for the update TBarm7! Your Challenger is really well run. Can't wait for live stream and would love for us to get it in Knoxville for November! Does it have to be a blanket USTA agreement, or can it be done at individual tournies? At least we had live scores unlike many of the Challengers - so frustrating. Thanks again!

Ryan what a draw (((

navy75
02-28-2011, 02:45 AM
Wow. This draw almost looks rigged to help someone on the bottom half accrue points. I REALLY hate the way that this draw wound up. One could argue that the two favorites to win the entire tourney were matched up in the first round (Kendrick vs. Harrison), and the three players that I personally thought had the best chances to win were all put in the same quarter (Kendrick, Sweeting, and Harrison). Also, the winner of the top half should receive 5X the amount of points as the winner of the bottom half, as I honestly think that the top six players at the moment were all put in the same half.

Great quality stream TBarm! Kudos to you as always. The two biggest headliners, Harrison and Kendrick, square off against one another around 7 or so. Another interesting matchup is Reynolds and Ram, as they are good friends and played doubles together for quite awhile.

Good win for Harrison in the 3rd set breaker. When Kendrick drilled the ball into the wall after losing the very first point of the breaker, you had a feeling that his temper was simply too much to overcome.

Although TBarm can never say it, I am certain that he and the other tournament insiders have to be happy with Harrison winning in his home state. Almost the entire crowd was for the kid, and he must have stayed an extra half hour afterward signing autographs and taking pictures.

I agree w/ Harrison wanting it more last night. Kendrick had this one locked up and then mentally checked out early. They both played a good 3rd set but Harrison was just scrappy enough to pull it out.

I'll say this though. RK looked like the better player w/ almost every shot. Better serve, return, deeper groundstrokes. Great volleys too. Harrison won this with retrieving skills.

Both guys were light years ahead of the McClune/Kuz match that preceded them though.

I guess they decided to move the Yani match to tomorrow b/c it was so late . Awful communication of it. I was expecting to see more tennis and then they just said Sweeting had pulled out.

Anyway, great event. Glad I finally got to attend. Cougars were on the prowl everywhere :rolls:

yani/klaasen didn't go on last night due to klaasen playing doubles earlier in the evening. it wasn't our or the tournies fault for not getting another match on. when a player(sweeting) notifies the tournament supervisor 2 hours before his match that he wont be playing, there's not much we can do....and yes, the ladies were out in full force last night. gotta love the Challenger of Dallas.

Why did you guys give him a WC anyway?? Did he ask for one?? His reputation precedes him. He didn't even play the Aussie WC playoffs in Australia, but thats Australia. He's not American, not sure why you guys would give a WC to a non-American, with a reputation, then complain about his behavior.

you always want to give a player the benefit of the doubt, second chance etc. did it bite us in the backside, yes, live and learn. yes his camp did contact us and with his success at the ao, why not give it a shot, bring a crowd in and see what happens. we aren't obligated to give our wc's to an american. would the usta prefer we do that, of course, but this is one of the reasons we are considered to have one of the best challengers on the circuit. a lot of u.s. challengers will never take non americans, but we have the rep to sometimes give one of our wc's to a non american. did it work out this time? no, but if we want to complain about his behavior, we have every right to. what upset me the most to be honest was probably the broken promise to talk to our jr. academy. once we were told he would talk to our kids for 30 minutes, we promoted it with our academy and it was a huge letdown for them. luckily american michael russell stepped up and did an incredible job.

Wasn't it Michael Yani who did the Jr Clinic and Pro Am? Also, The University of Tennessee men's tennis team has two guys from Australia: JP Smith and Jarryd Chaplin. JP Smith has been No. 1 singles player much of the time he's been here and you could not ask for a better guy. Excellent student, great teammate, someone you'd want your daughter to marry. Jarryd is new this year but is also a great guy. No need to decide all Australians are rude because of one spoiled kid and his father. And I think the tourney has to make some decisions based on what sponsors and the crowd would like. Good to offer a chance. Sad to be so disrespected. This is a fantastically run tourney!

one of the worst efforts ever. epsecially from a player who we gave one of our two wildcards to. we asked that he talk and hit with our junior program as a thank you to the tournament for receiving a wildcard. do you think he did any of that? of course not. personally speaking, i will never pull for tomic.

hahaha   FINALLY ! Stipid tournament organisers deserved this with stupid WC gifts   maybe they will open eyes and will see what is REAL TENNIS

Well then Indian Wells (a Master's Series event) must be really naive then. I don't understand your post at all. The kid is 18, seems very promising, and so happens to turn out to be an asshole with no heart. Just an interesting story and a lesson learned for the future. For you to come in and criticize the tournament organizers from one of the best run challengers in all of tennis is what is stupid.

Kuznetsov playing really solid once again. Might this be the tournament that he and his buddy Bogomolov meet for the title?

It seems Harrison thinks about IW already

this doesn't even deserve a response, but i will....and how many and what tournies have you run? like i said earlier, i'll be the first to admit, giving him a wc was a mistake, but we will learn from it and move on.

this challenger is excellent, no doubt! :worship::worship::worship: keep it up that way, I am a fan already:yeah: fact that you gave a WC to a non American also deserve respect!

Not really imo, Kuznetsov played really well and deserved the win. Ryan was very frustrated. He is likely to face a much tougher opponent at IW anyway....

OMG, what a terrible choke by Bogo. *6-3 in the TB and loses it :haha:
3rd mp he had a 2nd serve, where Jones won 30% on until that point.

He had also 3-1 in the set and 0-40 at 4-4. What an incredible choke this would be...

Hahaha, now he got broken when serving for the.match, wasting a 40-15. Didn't face a bp whole set. This is textbook choking.
