Grigor in Rotterdam

We can have proper tournament threads now, so here goes:

(4) DIMITROV, Grigor BUL v (WC) DE GOEDE, David NED
(5) ILHAN, Marcel TUR v KOROLEV, Evgeny KAZ

http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/407/qs.pdf

First round should be easy. The second one will be tougher, but he should be favorite indoors with his serve and attacking force. Anyway, good luck!

Ilhan is a good player, but I believe in Grigor, so he'll pass the qualifications, according to me.

Ilhan isn't in form , he should come through easily imo.

Korolev was good, wasn't he?

Not anymore. :)

Easy draw for Grigor. I hope for Marsel but Grigor will make the main draw from this section, most likely.

Korolev was good, wasn't he?

Korolev played great tennis in 2010 Australian Open against Fernando Gonzalez. But I think it was be last good match. :)

I think don't bad draw, Grigor can qualifity. Come on!!!

Korolev was good, wasn't he?

Korolev had surgery on his elbow (I think) during the winter break and he is not in form after that losing to some weak opponents recently (lost to Bedene 2-6 1-6 in Zagreb).
Ilhan is better, but he likes slower surfaces like outdoor hard and he is on a 7-match losing streak. However, he reached the second round here last season coming from qualifying. His form then was much better though.

Grigor plays from 12:30 CET today, second match on court 1.

Pretty easy warm-up match, but judging from the stats he was solid enough after the break.

I was there!! Saw his entire match, he was playing great! Totally outplayed the dutch youngster!
My friend and me were the only ones cheering for him :)
I've got pics, will upload them later. I also got a picture with him, he's super sweet! :) <3

Wow, lucky you to be there!

If you're going again today, cheer louder when he's down or pissed, Grigor LOVES his fangirls. My friends and I had a very good time cheering for him in Bangkok, very sweet boy. :D

Hey Sherelle, did you ask him if he has an official twitter/facebook account whatever?

It would be really nice to have somehow an official source... I mean even his website seems to me that it is not his very official website... I don't know...

64 62 :woohoo: zhenya

good luck in the MD :yeah:

Marin Cilic (CRO) - Qualifier
[8] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) - Qualifier
Andrey Golubev (KAZ) - Qualifier
Qualifier - Gilles Simon (FRA)

Andrey is the best draw he can get (again?)
Gilles is not bad yet(special R2 will be Ljubicic/Stakhovsky)
Cilic is tough, and don't get Jo plzzzzz!!!

Grigor won 6-4 6-2. Served very well and faced just one break point when serving for the first set.
Now in the main draw we hope for Golubev once again :wavey:

Now we want Golubev or Cilic. I don't like the Frenchmen, though, especially Simon will be the worst option. Girgor lost to him twice in very tight maches but...better not!

Gillou has been in great form lately. Even Fed could barely get away at AO. Besides, two of my fav shouldn't meet too soon  they need points.

Would be very difficult for Grisho...

All players he could draw will be motivated to death to win here. Golubev is not in shape, and I think this time won't be so easy. Cilic is furious to Nishikori and Tsonga too to Dolgopolov.

Order of play for tomorrow is out and Grigor is not playing. However, Cilic plays Zverev and Golubev gets Tursunov so Grigor will have to meet either Tsonga or Simon (will see when the draw finally gets updated).

[1] Robin Soderling (SWE) - [WC] Robin Haase (NED)
Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) - Yen-Hsun Lu (TPE)
Ernests Gulbis (LAT) - Thiemo de Bakker (NED)
Marcel Granollers (ESP) - [6] Mikhail Youzhny (RUS)

[3] David Ferrer (ESP) - Jarkko Nieminen (FIN)
Viktor Troicki (SRB) - [WC] Thomas Schoorel (NED)
Marin Cilic (CRO) – Mischa Zverev (GER)
[WC] Jesse Huta Galung (NED) - [5] Jurgen Melzer (AUT)

[8] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) – Grigor DIMITROV (BUL)
Nikolay Davydenko (RUS) - Michael Llodra (FRA)
Andrey Golubev (KAZ) – Dmitry Tursunov (RUS)
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) - [4] Tomas Berdych (CZE)

[7] Ivan Ljubicic (CRO) - Sergiy Stakhovsky (UKR)
Benoit Paire (FRA) - Gilles Simon (FRA)
Florian Mayer (GER) - Feliciano Lopez (ESP)
Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) - [2] Andy Murray (GBR)

Tsonga it is  The Frenchman always has some fitness issues and that might aid Grigor, but he stands little chance. If he does then Davydenko/Llodra also look too much and then Berdych is another big obstacle. Hope for the better and hope we will see some video for his match.
Good luck!!! :wavey:

Well we can't expect easy draws from now on. The tournament has very strong names, it's not Johanessburg. If Grigor wants to progress he has to begin winning versus the big names. That's the only way.

vn01
02-06-2011, 04:42 PM
I agree with Bulgaria. :)

He'll get experience by playing with Top 30 opponents.

Bulgaria
02-06-2011, 04:47 PM
If Grigor shows what is he capable off Tsonga won't be the person to stop him. Hopefully he will play his best tennis on tuesday and play a late match on center court for us to be able to watch it. I so believe he can win this match. The only thing does he believe in his own abillities? That's the main question.

Sonja1989
02-06-2011, 06:18 PM
Tsonga isn't in good form. I guess Grisho - of course if he plays good - can win.

vn01
02-06-2011, 09:01 PM
By the way, Grigor's chance of getting direct into the MD of Indian Wells is very big. According to his ranking, he's 8th in the qualifications, but I am sure he'll win enough points to reach Top 75, which will be enough. With a little bit luck, we'll see him playing his 1st ATP Masters Series match in March :yeah:

As for tuesday's match, I think that the % of 1st serve in will be one of the key moments. Both Grigor and JoJo have good serves and on HC indoors, it's a great advantage. Grisha should try to play more on Tsonga's backhand and should try to get in more rallies, so he can make Tsonga nervous. All in all, I give 55% - 45% for Tsonga, but Grigor has a chance of winning this

Do you know Korolev was good? Grigor can beat him?

Well, as proven, yes. He played well enough to beat Korolev :)
and honestly, i think he has a good shot against Jo as well.
1 up is that Grisha has already played 2 matches so he's already used to the court. Plus, i think Mcnamara can help Grisha have that extra push that he sometimes needs. His temper was very very under control; it was impressive to see how much that has changed. He can up his game whenever he wants to, he faced a bp in the 2nd set of the first match and after he played that away, his serves were only with Love! So much improvement in his game and his shots are strong.

Wow, lucky you to be there!

If you're going again today, cheer louder when he's down or pissed, Grigor LOVES his fangirls. My friends and I had a very good time cheering for him in Bangkok, very sweet boy. :D

I didnt get to go yesterday  i had to go to internship... which is why i hope he manages to reach the quarter finals, cause i'll go than if he does make it. And than i'll cheer extra hard!!!

Hey Sherelle, did you ask him if he has an official twitter/facebook account whatever?

It would be really nice to have somehow an official source... I mean even his website seems to me that it is not his very official website... I don't know...

I didnt, because i was quite nervous (tho that went flying out the window by how nice he is!) and after i said thank you and he said 'Always' he walked away.. Mind you, it was just after his match so i think he was wanting a nice shower :) it was pretty humid in the hall!

If Grigor shows what is he capable off Tsonga won't be the person to stop him. Hopefully he will play his best tennis on tuesday and play a late match on center court for us to be able to watch it. I so believe he can win this match. The only thing does he believe in his own abillities? That's the main question.

Exactly. And I think with that extra push from Mcnamara I believe he will believe in his own abilities!!

he cant avoid these guys forever but it wont help his ranking to much if he's losing in the first round everywhere

go play some weaker fields where he can win a few matches and get his ranking up that way
