With Nadal out, is it Federer's turn to shine?

This is another GREAT opporunity for federer to seize another slam.

Not only will it be his 17th slam, it will be a record breaking 5th slam in the AUS open and he will have 5 slams in 3 different Grand slam events.

Can djokervic stop him?

I'll answer this on monday.

You are basing this argument on the erroneous assumption that Fed would have lost to Nadal had he faced him in the final. Furthemore, Djok and Murray (and Ferrer to a lesser extent) have an equal aopportunity to shine as well.

fed has already shined enough

this is actually murray's or djokovic's time to shine

yes, my assumption was that fed woulda lost to nadal in the final.

It might be djokers/murrays chance to shine (murray woulda beaten healthy nadal imo), but fed can make history. I dont think he will want to squander such an opporunity, no?

Exactly. Roger doesn't need to shine, he's got 16 slams. If anything, it's time for Nole and especially Andy to step up and shine and show they can actually win some slams.

Honestly (moreso than even Federer) I would ideally want Ferrer to win it all.

Me too :) Sentimental reasons, probably, but he's one of, if not THE hardest working player on the tour right now, the biggest fighter and probably the most humble. Kind of hoping he can pull off a couple more upsets to take the title, or at least make the final.

lmao how awesome would it be if ferrer runs the gauntlet of nadal,murray,federer/djokovic?

gd damn, one of the goat slam victories?

Isn't that sort of expression "it's his turn to shine" reserved for guys who haven't achieved that much success relatively speaking? I mean Fed won 16 slams, the guy shined his ass off.

Haha, yes... it is finally Federer's time to shine. After years hiding under that #1 ranking and all his Wimbledon trophies. Keep your eyes peeled for this "Federer"

i should retitle the thread to "Federer should capitalize on this opportunity"

Federer can still beat anyone and everyone. But against nadal, his chances are moe like 40-60, with nadal the favorite. AGainst the others, hes probably the favorite.

no. a true GOAT never stops to shine. this is another test of rogers GOATness and i do believe he has all the answers. he has done it so many times and got a huge advantage over the others. he has also been the best player for the last 6 months. winning the AO will just be the climax of his recent form and make him the hottest player on tour for sure. it will also set him up for becoming the #1 again and end nadals dominance. he wants this badly. book it.

federer better not take djokovic lightly. Chokervic knows this is his only opportunity for another slam.

One of the best posts.

Fed wants #1.
Just months ago many had him on the death bed giving last rights.
I know who these posters are and I'm waiting for my time to have a laugh.

thanks. probably the single best thing about being a fedfan is how he keeps proving the haters and critics wrong. i never get tired of it. and who knows how long he can still do it. he has taken well care of himself and is still extremely motivated. being a fedfan is definitely one of the best thing you can be as far as being a fan goes. ever.

Federer lost to Soderling, Berdych, Djokovic last year, not to Nadal. This isn't 2008. It's Nolandy's -how ridiculous :spit:- time to shine.

to be fair, federer did have match points against chokovic in the USO, and now recently mentioned that the idea of facing nadal crossed his mind, since he would play him the following day.

I see roger being much more focused this time around.

This thread is a fail. Fed has lost to other players than Nadal since USO 2009... Del Potro, Soderling, Berdych, Nole, Nole...

Nole has found a way to beat Fed. He can beat Fed easier than Nadal for sure. Nole for the grand slam this year.
