Who is this kid??? He's playing like a freaking God. Andy Murray, is going to be up for a challenge, assuming if this kid is consistent for this tournament and keeps this momentum without having UE from reaching the QF. I can see him definitely become a threat in the future, more so than Cilic and the other guys. His game is reminiscent of Agassi. He mixes and matches it up with power and accuracy, amazing.

No wonder why Tsonga lost and why Gonzalez was crushed at Roland Garros, I can clearly see why...

he had to paint several lines to get it though, and now he's back in trouble on his own serve.

Lopez

Dolgo does have a quirky game, which is what Söderling hates to play against. However, there is the chance that his recent success is partly due to him being the "new kid on the block" so to speak. Many players get figured out eventually. Well see what happens to Dolgo.

However I do enjoy his attitude. Very quick in serving, no unnecessary screaming and fistpumping. Gets the job done nonchalantly.

Nadal and Djokovic would still be playing the second set because they take so much time between points. Nice to see quick service motions and breaks between points actually being under 20 seconds...

I think Murray is very adaptable anyway - I doubt the changes of pace, spin, angle, would throw him off his game the way Soderling has been knocked off kilter here. But it would still be an interesting and tough challenge.

Anyway, Soderling to serve for the fourth set - or can Dolgo do the two-bite comeback.

Sod at times did his best to give that set away again but he's holding his game better now and giving Dolgo less to work with.

Dolgo's backhand slice is a funky little shot - almost like he lets the ball get too close and then has to accelerate the slice through to catch up with the stroke.

Biggest problem IMO is that he rotates his body along with it... should extend the non-dominant arm behind him to prevent his body turning with the slice. Opens the racket face and results in a floating shot with no bite.

Well he's made some odd murmurs here and there - the 5 setter against Tsonga at Wimbledon was perhaps the first time many people got to see him, but it has been a bit quiet from him since then.

Maybe he's just now starting to pull it all together, he's another one of those players with an unusual game.

Next up - Andy Murray v Jurgen Melzer. Melzer has a bold view of what will happen in tonight's match: "I'm going to be the one dictating what's going to happen. If I keep my unforced errors low, push him around, get my winners, I think I have a chance to beat him." Fair enough. Murray counters with: "He's very unpredictable. He played his best last year. He takes a lot of chances, but he can also make mistakes too. He plays high-risk tennis. I've played him quite a lot and he's definitely improved. He's started to understand his game better." Fifteen all.

Melzer needs to be more solid on his service games and cut out some of those UEs.

scoobs
01-24-2011, 03:49 AM
A scrappy first set, Murray much the more solid, but surprised at how ragged Melzer was, rather expected him to play that much smarter but so far reminiscent of their last AO match the other year, which Murray won very easily.

I wish he'd show urgency at the start of every match. I think that's one of the major reasons he lost in the final last year. Seemed determined to show everyone that losing the first set wasn't a big deal.

Total Murray-brick-wall point. Annoying Melzer with that strategy, no doubt.
