WD Marin :yeah: Great run of form by him.

4th set TB was ridic. Cilic up an early break, gets to 5-2. Isner double faults twice in a row to lose it, just unbelievable. Did think Isner would be the one to get tight in the 5th set after that.

Clown match. Disgusting croatians in the crowd, clown umpire and blind linespeople, lucky netcourt to give Cilic the win, long match so Nadull gets as easy a draw is is mathematically possible. Big John didn't deserve that, he should have picked basketball which is a sport left with some integrity :o

Expected

I have to give some credit to Cilic for this match. But the serve is still strong . Another bye for Nadal with serve percentage like today

Yes! The fact that Marin won a tiebreak, and against Isner, is the icing. :D

Marin deserved to be the winner.

Isner was still tired from the Wimbledon epic though.

very impressive victory from Cilic and his reaction was great, hope he won't be too tired so that he can prove that Beijing win wasn't a fluke next round, he never lost a set to Nadal, not many can boast that, hehe..

Made it hard for himself by dropping his serve for the first set and giving away two mini-breaks in the first breaker with pretty cheap mistakes, but he got the win. Some of those first returns were just :worship:, including a couple in the last game. Done what he was supposed to, now for the big one :yeah:

Haterz gonna hate. :armed:
I wonder what will they say now, he hits a lot more winners than UEs, wins a TB against Isner, comes back from 2 sets to 1, and wins 9-7 in the 5th. So how much of a mug mental midget is he?
Well done Marin :D :rocker2:

Tough loss for Isner, but a tricky opponent for him on this court. Slow hard courts are generally bad for him, with the exception that high bounce allows him to bounce the serve short, high and out of the receiver's reach. That doesn't apply when the opponent has 6'6 of reach.

On his way to victory! As predicted (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=10124283&postcount=20) half a year ago ;-)

Cilic's footwork and return game won him this match. John was able to hang in there with his serve, but he had no answers once they were in a rally. John still needs to improve a lot if he wants to win more.

Hopefully he has some energy left,he showed last year that he has the fitness to play a few long matches in a row.Needs to produce something special to have a chance against Nadal.A Beijing like performance.

He spent most of 2010 being a 9/10 on the mental mug scale. Maybe 2011 will be different.

long matches aren't necessarily epic. this one sure wasn't - no isner match is as there are hardly any rallyes. i wonder what the miles look like the two ran today. rafa's gonna steamroll tomic lateron but will probably work harder than cilic and isner.

Great win for Cilic. He surprised me wining the 2nd tie-break (Isner helped a lot), but since the beginning of the 5th set, the Croat was the favorite to clinch it.

For someone who is known for his record in tiebreakers and mental strength in closing out close matches, Isner must surely be a little bit disappointed. Good work from Cilic though, and now will most likely be rewarded (if that is the right word) with a match against Nadal.

So miscalling one tiebreaker result makes someone a clueless donut clown?

This match had a very similar score line of Isner's famous Wimbledon win.

6-4, 3-6, 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 70-68

Maybe he wanted to relive the drama by dropping the fourth set tiebreaker? lol

As usual, Nadull's opponents get to play him after a 5-set marathon.

Isner went awol mentally in the fourth set's tiebreak. 2 double faults to give it to Cilic. I guess it all went downhill from there.

Shame. Isner-Nadal could have been a classic clash of styles.

Cilic seems to thrive in 5-set marathons at the AO.

He should've beaten that clown.

Now Nadull will get a knackered Cilic to feast on, hard draw

You and Gu suddenly make excuses for a player you always mock, now that he's facing Nadal. What compassion.

Did you watch the match? Marin didn't even look that tired at the end.

pretty high quality stats in a match that Cilic was heavily tipped to release a new level of mugness upon the tour...

can he keep this up...?

he has the tools to disarm Mugboar... that we know...

Were you listening to the Tarango commentary? He said that Bob Brett's advice to Cilic was not to work hard on his game in the off season, but to get well rested and refreshed. He thought that Cilic needed a mental rest as much as anything.

if anything Cilic needed some tough wins for his confidance

you feel much better after winning a tough one than after an easy one
