Why do u think Wawrinka will choke against Roddick? Is not like he is playing Federer or Nadal and then blows a tiebreaker and looses it.
Wawrinka looked pretty solid so far this year and against a passive Roddick he has a good chance to win and also do it in straight sets

I think Wawrinka is really in form this year and he will win. 3:1- 2 or 3 tie-breaks, Roddick will one win and other loose. In rally is Wawrinka better, on return is Wawrinka better, yes Roddick has better serve but i think Wawrinka will have more opportunities to break than Andy himself. And if Roddick loose it is good for him, because in QF Roger will destroy him 3:0 like always.

I was confident about Wawa here after the Monfils match, but Roddick's tenacity is so good. Stan was a little bit loose at the end of the match, but if he comes out focussed then Stan in 3. Roddick in 4 wouldn't surprise me, though.

Not denying he's playing good, but Stan has a tendency to tighten up in big matches, and yes Roddick might not be Federer or Nadull, but he's still a big scalp for Stan even if he does manage to get opportunities in the match, which he will, but converting them depends on if he keeps it together. Match is on stan's racket, but I expect Roddick to win.

I expect the duck to peck out Wawa's eyes in 4 sets...Wawa has the superior talent. The duck has the superior mental strength. Mental Strength > Talent @ this level of the game.

Stan has a change of his life to reach QF in Australia. Roddick is not that impressive, whereas Wawrinka is having a great run since this year has started.

So I would say Wawrinka in 4.

Stans ROS isn't too good, he doesn't have the ability to chip or block...plus he's a choker and often wildly inconsistent.

So Roddick who has won 30 titles doesn't even get a little say in what happens in the match? LOL. I actually think the match rests in Roddick's serve. If he serves well then he should win comfortably.

Wawa in 4. I'm quite impressed the way he's been playing, including focus at crunch time. Yes, he let lose at the very end of today's match, but he could afford it by then and closed it out afterwards. He'll take the chances when they appear and they will.

He does, if he manages to win most rallies, the match is most definitely on his racquet. Do you see it happening?

Roddick has the huge serve and a vast experience in GS higher stages while Stan is fully dedicated to the sport now that he divorced and has the best backhand on tour.In addition Stan really wants to do well. Stan in five is my pick even though I hope Roddick gets it to see a Federer -Roddick quarter.

As Roddick's fan I hope to be proven wrong, but I have an inner feeling that this will be similar to that match in AO'08 vs Kohli, when Andy was pushing like hell (still remember that woeful match vs Berrer, Andy's performance here kinda resembles it), and the German was hitting sizzling winners from all over the court. Stan is also a good shotmaker with a single-handed backhand. The only difference is that I think it will end in 4 sets, not in 5...

Anyhow, hope for an upset to see one more Roddick-Federer match

30 titles means nothing when he's pushing like a clown every match, any decent baseliner playing well should beat this Roddick, but Wawrinka won't. Lu showed it last year at Wimbledon.

Wawa in 4, methinks.

It depens on whether Roddick can bring the hammer on his FH. I know you underrate that wing, but Roddick (when utilizes it correctly) has a great forehand. He ca hit through Nadal (see Miami and Dubai), so I'm guessing he could hit though Wawrinka.

Roddick potentially go out all guns blazing 'or' go al guns blazing and proceed to just overpower Stan, will he is a different matter.

Even if Roddick does continue to play %, he is still favourite because of the serve. Whether you believe it nor not, Wawrinka will struggle to make returns. Most people against Roddick do (other than Federer).

Roddick started playing % at the start of 2005.

2005 - 5 titles. 1 slam semi and 1 final/1 masters final
2006 - 1 MS titles and 1 slam final
2007 - 1 slam semi, 2 QF's, 2 titles, few runners up. DC win
2008 - three titles (dubai had a masters-esque draw)
2009 - 1 slam semi/1 slam final, 1 tournament win
2010 - 1 slam QF, 1 MS win/1 runner up. 2 titles overall.

14 (+ DC) of Roddick's 29 tournaments came when he played % tennis. He won 2MS titles, and 12 other titles. Coupled with multipule slam finals/semi's and QF's.

Roddick playing % tennis is still the superior player to Wawrinka in terms of achievements. Wawrinka might be more technically sound and have more tools to work with, but Roddick has the bigger weapons. Roddick is also vastly superior to Wawrinka upstairs and physically.

I'm not saying Roddick will win. But to say 'Roddick doesn't have a say in what happens' is funny.

Uh. Miami 2010?

Yh we all know he still has it, but its a matter of practising the shot, he can't just rip winners outright, you have to practise it...And I'm also guessing its a confidence problem for him, he probably doesn't trust the shot.

Roddick is going to get a taste of how tennis is SUPPOSE to be played.

Stan the Man Wawrinka, in 3 solid sets. 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

Roddick started playing % at the start of 2005.I would've said it was around 2007 but whatever.
I'm not saying Roddick will win. But to say 'Roddick doesn't have a say in what happens' is funny. You're misunderstanding. "The match is on Wawa's racquet" doesn't mean that Stan will win, or even that he is better for that matter. But when an aggressive player meets a defensive one, it's all up to the attacker. Does he have the accuracy and power necessary to break through the defenses of the opponent or not?
In a match between an aggressor in awesome form and a retriever in awesome form, the attacker will always win.

It all depends on how Roddick plays, usually he starts to play more aggressive around the 4th round and quarters, so it will be interesting to see how he plays, especially against a talented shot maker like Stan The Man.

This is more a wish than what I think will happen, but Wawrinka in 5. He may not be as consistent as he was against Monfils earlier, but he will have a great chance to move Roddick all around the court as long as the backhand is firing. As for Roddick (as is often the case) a high first serve percentage will be the key.

As usual I vote for Roddick in 4.

It doesn't matter how many times he'll win, people will always go for the opponent and say "Show this duck what real tennis is all about!"

Then they lose, and the cycle repeats.

Duck's mental fortitude to beat Wawa in 4.

What about it? You saw it resurrected?

So you're saying Roddick was looping forehands in sets 2 & 3 against Nadal.............Cool story. Bro.

@Orka_N: By saying 'Wawrinka has the match on his racket', you're also implying that the Roddick serve has no effect on the game and also in the baseline rallies. This is clearly not the case.

* If Wawrinka can't get the serve back, he can't break.
* Roddick COULD come out and blast away. Unlikely but if he plays aggressive then the match is on his racket.

Did you watch the only full encounter they played?
