LMAO. Monfils is just utter shit. By far one of the worst players on tour. He's absolutely pathetic.

Congrats Stan!! :yeah:

Mugfils needs to change coaches. I don't know if anyone can fix his brain but Roger Rasheed does nothing except look exasperated when he clowns around.

Impressive from Wawa. He'll beat the duck for the quarters.

Superb 1st set, after which Monfils checked out.

That was insanity from Monfils. He was far too passive in the first set and simply ran out of energy within an hour. :help:

The Eurosport commentary team criticised him during sets 2 and 3 for his 'tactics' for this match. They were correct to do so, but it got irritating after 10 minutes or so.

Wawrinka looked brilliant, playing nice aggressive tennis. If he can keep his nerve against Roddick he has an excellent chance there...he can certainly work him over in the rallies. However, concentration is absolutely key as Roddick can serve himself out of tough situations. That first attempt to serve out the match against Monfils was woeful, so the mental side is something Stan still needs to improve if he is to win the biggest matches.

He is definitely a dark horse in the draw. Beat Roddick, and I could see him giving Federer more than a match.

But I think Old Max needs to chill out a bit. All tennis players have bad days, and Gil had a bad day were nothing went right for him. I think he is ok, He is unlikely to win a GS but I think he could get to a final.

Thing is, Monfils doesn't have any motivation to succeed in tennis. All he wants is to put on a show. He has no on-court intelligence or ability to adapt his pushing strategy either, which makes a GS final a far away dream.

No I think he could make a french open final. He has still got another 5 or 6 years left in his career, so who knows what is down the line.

Though I doubt he would reach a GS final even if he tried his best.

Very good rant and it's great there are announcers who are willing to say the truth instead of more brown nosing BS. If American commentators had half the balls of Wilander Roddick might actually hear what he needs to instead of how aggressive and powerful his forehand is :o

I've always wondered how Rasheed and Monfils can co-exist, they couldn't be more different in terms of their personalities and character. Anyway, god awful play from Monfils, after the 1st set he had and gave nothing to trouble Stan. Can see an upset brewing in the next round...

Please stop "hating on" Monfils. Yes he played badly for a couple of points to lose the 1st set tie breaker and atrociously thereafter, but you can't fault his abilities. He is not an athlete-turned-tennis player

The only thing missing is between the ears. There was nothing inside his skull. You could see it in his eyes. He probably was still replaying what had happened in the 1st set over and over again. His thoughts were in an infinite loop. It happens. All he needs is a brain transplant and he will be a massive world number one :yeah:

Stan was sublime today. Backhand on fire. Just a joy to watch. Also fun to see Lundgren so animated. I can't wait to watch the duckling match :bounce:

No irony my dear : the day Monfils will win 2 MS in a row or Master Cup like my fav player...I'll marry Winnie the pooh !!
Monfils is overrated : I confirm and if you knew what French press says about him...you'ld know what overrating a player means...all journalist are mad about him and think he's a tennis God since he only won three 250 pts tourneys in his whole career...at the age of 24...
No irony at all, just lucidity

Nobody overrates Monfils. You're just the typical french "fan" completely obsessed with french players but thinking you're so special and different because you hate on them instead of fawning over them.

The line judges are always the same in big tournaments. I saw her in the Sydney final when Troicki foot-faulted and had a meltdown. I actually thought she was the one who had called it at first and was laughing my ass off.

I don't know what you're thinking, the ESPN guys have talked about how he needs to hit out way more on his FH like the whole week.

Anyway, the first set was excellent...apart from Monfils' terrible play the last 5 points to give Stan the set. Too bad the rest of the match didn't live up to the first set
