Berdych in amazing form. :worship:

Winners to unforced errors was outstanding (around 3:1). He could do some serious damage here. I'm a bit afraid for Nole. :)

Good stuff from Tomas. Unpredictable guy, but great when he's on.

Good job Tomas, I think he'll make the quarters at least, in great form.

Richard had some moments and it was closer than the score suggests, but overall Tomas too good today and too many errors/DFs in crucial moments on the other side to do any better. Richou

Berdych's form on the rise from match to match :yeah:

Yeah, credit to Gasquet. He came up with some amazing shots and that backhand never gets old. It is one of the most effortlessly effective groundstrokes on the tour. He can hit winners with it on even the slightest opportunity.

Surely Gasquet must be getting to point of seeing he needs a new approach. he's going backyards in my view. his forehand is such a liability. he needs someone who will get stuck into him and show him he's wasting his talent. hanging around 25-40 isn't good enough.

Berdych is a better player than Gasquet anyway so it's a moot point in here.

Berdych as usual only shows up against lower-ranked players.

Yeah, that and those flukes wins over higher ranked ones. Oh wait, we've been there before.

Awful performance from Richard...not even fighting I guess ?

Why should I say something any different from what I actually said?

Because that IS all you're really saying. We are not going to go through this again, are we, enumerating wins and discussing how many you can call a fluke without sounding ridiculous even to yourself?

Have you seen the match?

In the first set, Berdych served at 94%. This is massive. Richard did well to hang in the second set, saving some breakpoints early on and playing buch better towards the end, I found the 2nd set if good quality from both. The breaker was crap from Richard.

Richard did not play defensively and camp behind the baseline, but his aggressive play also caused errors, while Berdych was able to keep his error count incredibly low, only 17 (!) for the whole match. Just for comparison Roger had 36 UEs in a shorter match.

Berdych was the better player today, no doubt but that doesn't mean that Richard won't win another match this year.

Great job Birdo.

Perhaps an interesting matchup with Verdasco??

I think if Kei were to make it, he will probably choke to Berdych, given that he'd have to defeat two top tier players in a consecutive manner, don't think he's up for that challenge yet.

Assuming Verdasco were to advance.....I'll take Berdych to make the QF in this hard draw.

Berdych is an extraordinarily talented player who has some issues with consistency and mental stability. He is not a fluke, his wins over big players were not flukes, and anyone who maintains as much knows absolutely nothing about tennis. Insofar as Glenn Mirnyi displays this glaring ignorance of tennis in nearly every post on any tennis-related topic, his comments in this thread should come as little surprise.

I hope Berdych goes deep here, and he is certainly capable of doing so (so long as it is not Djokovic-ousting deep a la Wimby 2010 ;)).

I was in the stands for this, pretty pathetic match from Gasquet. Played terrible tennis whenever there were significant points and blasted winners at 40-0 down. Not sure what he was thinking with half the net approaches and his backhand down the line was completely ineffective for much of the match.

There was nothing, nothing to be saved. Gasquet was just blasted apart like a junior. And i don't care the 2 clowns went down with him. I just see he is only the shadow of himself now.
