Hisense is dead

Leo

They currently had to suspend the Sharapova/Goerges match on Hisense because there is a very problematic dead spot on Hisense, near to the net. The umpire tested bouncing a ball on the spot and, not only did it not bounce, it appeared to get stuck to the surface! Very unusual.

This could be big (and very bad) news for the tournament. Unhappy fans, I predict.

I saw that. It was the strangest thing. Everyone seems perplexed by it. I have never seen anything like it. I wonder if they'll be able to fix it soon or if this will cause trouble throughout the whole tournament?

What??? How embarassing, luckily they didn't have this problem during the Roddick match, otherwise he would be bitching about it big time.

I see that the problem is now fixed. :)

that just doesn't make sense lol, it doesn't bounce at all, it's crazy, never seen that before, and never thought I'd ever dream of it let alone see it. I don't understand what's causing it to not bounce at all. I could understand if it was a little dead but no bounce whatsoever, I don't like their chances of fixing it, not by today anyway for sure

How do they fix this? They might need to re-do the court entirely.

They brought out the drill, all is well now. Still strange... match is back on.

Leo
01-21-2011, 04:40 AM
It appears it was a quick fix after all. They used a drill and put two holes in the spot to release the air. Then they patted down the court surface and it's bouncing again. !

Well the Gooch would make sure his volleys wouldn't bounce anyway.

I swear Goerges is trying to use it. She's hit a couple of awesome drop shots very close to the net. For one of them, Sharapova had to fumble through that spot on the court and I bet Goerges was hoping she'd injure her ankle or something.

Hilarious, lmao

I bet you Sharapova wants to serve right to that lady's face for trying to abuse that weak spot.

I see another Rafatard getting uptight about the Gooch. Just remember Rafatards that the Gooch is undefeated against Nadal.

Too bad Wozniacki cant hit dropshots, that would have been her chance to get a winner.

F**ck, they found the magnets! Now what's the use of Rafa serving with those balls that carry a small iron core? This will ruin his serve and do no good to his dropshots!!
Uncle Toni is getting more sloppy as the years go by...

How many has he tried since 2003? 2? 3?

Back on topic, I noticed that no matches are scheduled for Hisense today. I guess they got tired of delays because of dead spots.

Ummmm...

1. They never schedule matches on Hisense from QF stage onwards.
2. Tired of delays because of dead spots? 1 time??

Idiot.

the dead spot makes the Australian Open a complete joke. not only was that the most embarrassing court problem at a Major but it's a disgrace to pro sports. Garbage.

On #2, there was at least one other delay while I was watching a men's match, I think Soderling vs Hernych. Also for Djokovic vs Almagro, the umpire mentioned the dead spots to the players before the match. Basically he said that if the ball hits a dead spot, the point counts, but then they'll stop play to fix it.

It's a shame that people come to these awful conclusions when the Gooch decides to be nice and go easy on his opposition. He can't help it that when he plays at 45% of his best instead of 15% that players like Rafa are that overwhelmed that they don't even make it through the first set and shortchange the crowd in the process. Nadal was left so traumatized that he has never ever ventured back to the court where the beatdown took place and it's been 4 years.

The Gooch embodies the Kenny Powers' motto: "why give 100% if 35% can get you paid and laid?".

Nadal can't figure his game out.

Wrong and stupid statement. Nadal retired in the 1st set when both players were holding serve.
Hey I can't wait for more Nadal-Youzhny matches, now that Nadal has matured as a player it's nice to see him kicking Youzhny's butt with ease everytime they play ;)

See post above and don't make stupid statements. Nadal got injured in the 1st set when both players were holding serve. Nothing to read into that pseudo-match.
