Their last two matches were won by Monfils. In Tokyo in 2009 he was outplayed but curiously won by serve-and-volleying, in Valence last year he completely crushed Wawrinka, actually playing some very good offence.

I'd say Monfils but he's playing pretty strangely at the moment.

:scratch: Tough call. Wawa looks in better form from the first 2 rounds but was uber passive against Dimitrov for the most part so maybe if Gael decides to come out swinging..

Monfils should have been sent packing in R1 the form he's in, so Wawrinka in 4. Hoping for Monfils to snatch it though.

I agree with this call. Wawrinka has played almost as well as he ever has since the start of 2011, but Monfils will be very tough to beat. We've had our fair share of 5 set matches in the AO so far already (not to forget the match that Monfils himself was involved in) but if it goes to a decider, I would pick Gael to win.

if Monfils plays the way he played in R1 he will be out in 3 if not it will be Wawa in 5

Wawrinka is one of my favorite complete players. Monfils is one of my most hated clowns.

Normally if Monfils is healthy, I can see why some players have trouble with him, even Federer.

Might be because of his serve and his athleticism.

Regardless, Wawrinka has no excuses. He's a much better player, and Wawrinka is playing against an injured Monfils, not one that's healthy. With that said, Wawrinka should take this.

By the way, Federer is already in QF and the clown has zero chance to reach semis.

I think they're very close friends on the tour. Will be interesting.

Interesting match and very likely to be along one. Too close to call, though my heart is with Gael.

Remembering that Gael showed signs of an injury I say Wawrinka. I hope it's an entertaining game. Hate for it to be one sided after all the hype.
