What grade would you give each aspect of Raferer's game?

Grade them like the game TOPSPIN 3 did it in 2008, so give your numbers instead. This is how they were compared in the 2008 game:

I would rate Nadal's volleys and forehand higher. I would also rate Fed's serve, speed and stamina higher... Nadal's Fh is definitely a 90 and his volley would be like 70.

I honestly don't understand why people under estimate Federer's stamina and speed (he is much closer to Nadal than the stats in that game shows.

Anyway, that game was HORRIBLE.

I know, I hated that game too, it had awful pacing. Hopefully TOPSPIN 4 will be a lot better, it's released this year, March 15.

I absolutely loved topspin 2... but after the huge disapointment of topspin 3 I am going to wait to buy topspin 4 and will only get it if people give it good reviews.

? How aren't they each rated like 97-99? Both their volleys should be increased (though Fed's should be higher). Fed's stamina should be greatly increased (he has never retired in a match and if I remember correctly, his 5 set stats are ridiculous).

I am not sure what "power" encompasses. How is Fed more powerful than Nadal?

federers stamina is constantly underrated. Just because he looks incredibly fluid and pretty when playing tennis, doesnt mean he doesnt have epic stamina.

IMo, Nadals stamina is slightly better than federers, Fed is a freak of nature just like Nadal.

The gap in their stamina must be MASSIVE because in the 2009 AO:

- Rafa played a 5hr 14min SF vs Verdasco
- Federer double-bagelled Del Potro in QF and reasonably comfortable SF
- Federer had 2 days of holidays between SF and F, while Rafa only had one day
- Jim Courier gave Rafa zero chance of winning the Final, due to the Verdasco SF
- Rafa did more running than Federer in the Final
- Despite all this Rafa won 6-2 in the fifth

that match wasnt decided on stamina.
for all his problems, i dont recall fed ever dropping his level because he was tired. i have seen rafa run out of gas though. but roger plays a much easier style of tennis, so its hard to compare.

I know, I hated that game too, it had awful pacing. Hopefully TOPSPIN 4 will be a lot better, it's released this year, March 15.

That is because people who play video games normally are not athletic nor do they care about those aspects. If you want a realistic game in terms of speed, then the only choice is Dream Match Tennis. The graphics are poor and in the regular version they do not feature the real players' names and graphics, but the game play is practically spot on to real tennis. Serving actually does damage, groundstrokes are blistering and you have to set the point up.

But regardless, it is impossible to rate their strength in terms of numbers like how Top Spin 3 does. For example, while Nadal has a great forehand, as does Federer, it is in a completely different fashion. Now Top Spin on the other hand gave you the option of adding "special stats" like giving a player the ability to produce more topspin than normal, or more slice than others, etc.

Tennis-Hero, did you just say that Rafa can't return?

Rafa can return, but it isn't his returning skills that wins him those points that places him so high up in the stats for returning points won. Technically, his returning skills are poor compared to the better ones such as Djokovic/Murray/old-Nalbandian/etc, but he is so tough during a rally. It is like when people claim he has such a strong serve. It isn't the serve that is strong, it is because he backs it up.

oh! i would also like to do tthe stats for federer in 2006 when he was at his peak

Being a bit generous on his BH. His backhand pass and flick backhands were tremendous during his peak years, but IMO it is tough to say how good his backhand really was because he was content with slicing his backhand and running around it to hit a forehand.

i think theres 2 ways to look at it

yes, the backhand was definitely the weaker shot, however federer could just do so much with the shot that when it was "hot" it was probably a 95. on the flip side, when it was shanking it was closer to a 70. in 2006 he mostly hit the BH well

it really hard to rate federer's backhand

the rating system doesn't allow it

a far more accurate system would be

It is absolutely demeaning to these warrior athletes to provide objective ratings on a video game system. What is it based on? The wild whims of the video game creator? That does not equal equity and is a sham.

Federer's forehand has a lot more pace than Nadal's.

But that is why his forehand has a 91, no?

And in 08 Nadal should be ranked higher overall than Federer. How are they both ranked 75 though? Isn't 75 usually considered "average?" What are players 20-50 rated? 50s?

I will second this. It took me some time to warm up to it and get over the relatively poor graphics and animations, but the gameplay is the best thing going right now if you want something that more properly represents the sport.

Nadal's forehand definitely has to be higher than Federer.

Nadal's main advantages are: more staminia, more power, super backhand, better forehand

Federer has the better serve and volley and an almost as good forehand but crap backhand (relatively). He also has the better "touch" dropshots and the like.

In a head to head match I feel Federer always has to use creativity and finesse to win. You can't physically defeat Nadal he is an animal.
