Nice match. Kei was able to live with Flo's changes of pace and showed off with his forehand hitting winners everywhere.
In the third set Kei struggled with his serve and seemed to conserve his energy after going down two breaks. In the fourth it was duly Mayer's turn to struggle majorly with his serve, and as his game started to wilter Kei stepped in and finished it. Great allcourt action from both players.

Kei had the tools to put Mayer away nicely.

Don't know what that 3rd set was about, but fine match other than that.

Kei looked strong in the last set, some really nice passes.

Nishikori's lighting forehand is a beauty

funky flo brought the funk but little did he know that kei was training and preparing on the ddr while listening to j pop for this match. first two sets were much more competitive than the scoreline suggests and kudos to both players for some brilliant shotmaking throughout the match.

Typical Flo.

Good to see Nishikori putting some wins together.

Love watching Mayer play, but good win for the Asian Sensation.

Mayer didn't look comfortable at all in the first two sets. Don't know what happened in the third.

3rd set was apparently just a taunt by Kei?

well funky flo hit a perfect slice approach yet (in the 2nd set) kei just hit backhand down the line winner off it. these tactics usually work for flo.... so yes... flo facial expression seem some what uncomfortable.. as the third set it was kei who went walkabout and just started spraying errors.

Funky Flo has always been known for dodgy performances after good wins.

Kei's FH was on fire today! Great shotmaking from both players and it was fun to watch their using every space on court!
The bizarre third set was probably a long break between sets. Kei has had a similar meltdown in the past, including R1 vs Fognini and his R3 win over Ferru at USO 2008.

Good luck in R3 vs Tipsy or Nando! :yeah:

Flo had Kei running all over the place on many occasions like he usually does with his opponents, but Kei was quite often just able to live with everything he had thrown at him and eventually turn tables.

It'd be great to see them both stay healthy this season.

The Funk's game is really designed to fox mugs with poor movement (and fantastic that is to watch too). He's not so good against the fast guys.

Really nice performance here. Anyway Mayer looked distracted, especially in the crucial moments. Like not quite there. Slow and dreamy.

Nishi san has to throw in a WTA set here and there to get to the finish line.
