Chardy stank the joint up, as expected. Tomic could not have asked for a better guy to draw.

tomic is gonna be one of those top 50 players, who, if you are not feeling great he's gonna beat you most days... can't see a world beater in there... yet...

He's a year older, bedtime privileges have been extended by at least an hour. As long as he brushes he teeth before the match and puts his jimjams on for the post-match interview.

Bernie has gotten 3 dream 1st round draws the last 3 years. Still he had to win them all and he did so he deserves creit for that. He hinted in the interview after the match he wanted to play on Hisence again... I wonder if Tiley was listening.

Yeah, most unseeded guys would kill for draws like he's had.

To be fair to Bernie. his only real dud match in terms of Rank was Rufin who was still slightly higher then him.

A 700th ranked player to beat Starace ranked in the 70's is fairly unheard of. and Still should be a tough task ranked at 199 to beat a Top 50 player. He's certainly played well in those conditions, Doesn't panic and Doesn't let the heat of the moment get to him.

Wow that was horrible from Chardy, self destruction.
Tomic didnt have to do anything special, he played a solid match and had good composure, but it was just Chardys errors, he lost it himself.

Jim, seriously... take a break. Excruciatingly painful match to watch.

Even as an Aussie I can't help but hate Tomic with a passion. I remember how he struggled against Muller's serve two years ago and if Lalo is serving like he did against Pony in Sydney, I don't think he'll get broken. That being said though, Lopez might wanna avoid another spanking from Rafa and could show up in his default mug mode. Possible five setter like Tomic's one with Cilic last year? Who knows... I can't tell if I'd rather Lopez crush him in straights or have Lopez lose so Rafa can shut him down instead. :o

That is the most rubbish thing I have ever read. You dead-set are a farkin clown.

The Kid was 16 and ranked in the late 700's in the world, It was a good effort to beat Starace regardless of how well or how dire Potito played, It's still a big win. He was never going to beat a guy with a big serve, He took a set of Muller couldn't match him for pace.

2009, He got drawn Rufin which was definately a winnable game and he was ranked slightly higher then Tomic as i can remember. Taking a Top 20 player in Cilic to 5 sets at 289 in the world is still a big achievement

Tomic only ever does what is needed to win matches, through harder hitting and more aggression could of come unforced errors. A win is a win and really it doesn't matter how you win by as it's quickly history and you have to prepare for your next match.

Aa a tennis player it's obviously better to peak in the later rounds.

While I am a fan of Tomic, I am a realist and I can't see him beating Lopez.

I have a summary for those who didn't watch:

Chardy's service games:

HUGE serve and trying to finish off the forehand, usually out

Chardy's return games:

Forehand return in the middle of the net

Thank you.

I'll never understand why a tennis fan would have a need to repeat this platitude. It's something players incorporate into their philosophy for obvious reasons. As a fan, surely you care what kind of tennis is on display. While 'winning ugly' occasionally is no issue, surely if a player's 'standard' game is of no interest to you, you won't be a fan even if he wins all the time.
