Doha 2011- Let the REAL battle start!!!

OK. The season starts in Doha again.

Here is the draw: http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/451/mds.pdf

Rafa doesn't have a good draw. You see, he may meet Gulbis in the 1/4 finals and then Davy in the 1/2 finals. While Fedclown has a far easier draw. Anyway, I think there is a good sign there. Rafa will meet Karol Beck in R1. Their only meeting was... in Doha 2009. So, I think it's a good sign for Australian Open 2011. VAMOS! :worship::worship::worship:

Hope, there'll be MIT 2011. I say WIN :wavey:

Rafael Nadal played his first match of the 2011 ATP World Tour season on Monday with his fellow Spaniard Marc Lopez at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. The 2009 titlists and third seeds dropped nine points on serve to knock out David Marrero and Pere Riba 6-3, 7-5 in 81 minutes for a place in the quarter-finals.

So they got some nice practice in. Wild cards Ghareeb (KUW)/Zaid (QAT) in the quarters.
Rafa plays 3rd tomorrow after Rogelina. Vamos! :rocker:

6:3 6:0 over Karol Beck. Rafa's forehand was amazing, he served in 70% 1st serve, he hit 24 winners and 1 ace and recorded his 1st bagel of the year.
But I'm not so impressed at all. He could play better. He did what he needed to win. He'll do the same versus Lacko before the first real test- Gulbis.

MariaV
01-07-2011, 08:36 AM
Oh yes after the match Rafa wrung the sweat out of his shirt. :o But it's not the shirt that's at fault here I think. :o

"I started the match playing very well the first game," said Nadal. "After that I [went] down. I was a little bit dizzy in the end of the first set, but I was very lucky at 4-all, love-40. That moment, decisive moment, was very lucky, I think.

Should we be worried? :scared:  This must not be good to play so much with the fever and atibiotics. :( And it's surely no good facing Davy or Fed in such condition. :o  Sadly we know he won't withdraw... if ti won't get any more serious. :o I only hope there won't be any more serious damage to his health. :tape:

Actually, it is partly the shirt's fault. Someone in the GM noticed that the shirt doesn't evaporate the sweat like most other sports wear, it just stays there. Which is NOT good, especially not when you play in warm climates like Australia and Doha. And Rafa is a guy that normally sweats a lot! They should have made him a better shirt, one that actually breathes..

I kinda hoped he would lose to Gulbis.. because then at least he would rest up and get better for AO. I can see Davy winning today, and I actually think it would be a good thing. I mean, rafa got to the semis WITH a fever. That is very respectable. No shame in losing now, and at the same time he could rest up and get his strength back and lose the fever before AO.

Well, the doubles title won't help much at the AO when he has exhausted and damaged himself so much. :( I personally write the AO completely off now, I don't expect anything from the AO, I'm even ready for an early withdrawal and the rejoicing of the hatas. Not going to set my feet to GM.

He said:
"I stay here, I must get healthy at first. Flying sometimes makes it worse."
About the match yesterday:
"After 4 or 5 games I already knew that I won't have a chance. I even thought about retiring. But it's not easy for me, just to walk off the court. That's not nice to the crowd and the opponent."
